Saros Drafts Full Lore

Postby SleepyTrek » Sat Jul 11, 2020 4:19 pm

Saros Drafts Full Lore

The Saros Draft breed comes from a small island referred to as Saros or other words () Island. The Island is closely related to Ireland in both size and the greenery around in which the large breed eats on a daily basis, the breed as well eats or nibbles per say on the surrounding salt mounds found on the beaches as the breed has a very sensitive stomach making it harder for it to digest by itself much like chickens.

Since Saros are a Very large draft breed raising to about 19-22 hands, Thou seen growing as high as 25.3 on record The breed has no natural predators but they are rare since they typically don't breed at all in the wild from there very calm state. If a foal does occur there heights will normally be 10 Hands at birth some being larger, and grow from there. The Saros will usually, in the wild, live to be 20 from its common small herd lifestyle. If taken care of well enough it can live to 25 max.

The horse is all though most recognized not only for their size but for the very long feathering. This feathering continues to grow until the horse passes, as it does get in the way for older horses it mustn't be trimmed as it cause serious health issues with the sensitive skin down by their hooves. Despite their legs, their manes and tails can be trimmed down, and is more common in tamed versions of the breed to have shorter hair. Although Saros are based on real horses, they do have some unrealistic genes following them from overall being untouched in the wild before being tamed

As of now the breed can be found across parts of the world and are now being managed under the Official Saros Island Wildhorse Conservation (SIWC) Thou since these horses are rare typically only the wealthy will own them. Being tamed as carriage horses and being shown in beauty contests against other draft breeds.

Saros Breeding and Genes Info

Saros Breeding and Genes Info
Its very well known that Saros Drafts are based off of real horses but unlike real horses they do have some genes that most drafts wouldn't normally get and some that are very common with drafts, this is just some basic information on those as well a bit more simplified

Simplified Saros Genes
I've read a lot about horse genes and what makes up them and such and they can get quite confusing this is just some extra help for artists/Breeding artists and people who just want to know more about Saros with their genes.
Saros Have basically all horse color genes and aren't necessarily limited to what there coats can produce as long as it is realistic of course. Same with colors saros have most markings that can be found around many breeds of today. Thou unlike other horses or drafts, Saros can get dwarfism meaning they basically are an adult in a foals body. or as well largeism which is basically the reverse of dwarfism with them being nearly adult size and continue to grow
Now not all colors are added just the base ones as saros have all colors a normal horse has (Which is a lot)

The First gene is dominant and the second it recessive ex- EE=Dom Ee=Rec

Base Colors

Bay- Ea
Black- EE or Ee
Grey- GG or gg
Dom White- KIT
Champagne- CH or ch
Chestnut- ee

Quick Info- Silver, flaxen and cream are additive meaning they can be added to any coat
Silver- SS or Ss
Flaxen- FF or Ff
Cream-Cr or cr

Special Genes

(Very Rare) Dwarfism- Dw
(Very Rare) Raven Coat- Rc
(Rare) Bridle- Bbr
(Rare) Chim Disorder- Ci

Markings

For Markings its like Colors with the dom and rec but instead it depends on how much of the marking it is such as LpLp would be more leopard than Lplp

Sooty- SoSo or Soso
Tobiano- ToTo or Toto
Tovero- TovTov or Tovtov
Overo- OvOv or Ovov
Sabino- SaSa or Sasa
Roan- RnRn or Rnrn
Rabicano- RbRb or Rbrb
Leopard- LpLp or Lplp
Splash- SpSp or Spsp
Bird/Bend Spots-BB or Bb

Personalities and Extra Info

Personalities and Extra Info

Like real horses each saros is different in its personality's some more confident and strunty than others. When you adopt a saros be sure to make them a personality that you think fits them. Think of them each as your own horse in how they would react to certain situations

Most common personality's would be that the horse is pretty chill or laid back or it is either always up and ready to go. Completive, snobby, overly confident, a horse who is ready to lay down or ready to get right back into tack

General extra info on Special Genes in Saros
Dwarfism in Saros is a Very Rare gene making a horse basically a foal forever being the same size and never growing to adult size. Now only bred foals can acquire the full gene, as of such breeding a carrier can only result in a dwarf foal. The gene in horses is only carrier. If one horse is a carrier, it has only a 10% chance of rolling this gene in breeding. Whilst if both horses are carriers its results in a 15% chance in breeding. Horses that have dwarfism can not breed and will not result in a higher chance of getting the gene

Raven Coat is a Very rare gene only occurring in black horses, adding a sheen making it have the looks of a raven feathers. meaning in which the horse will have hits of purple or green around the neck, back, legs, and even shoulder area. Like Dwarfism it can only be an outcome on foals, from breeding a horse that is a carrier of the gene. As well, again referring to dwarfism, If one horse is a carrier, it has only a 10% chance of rolling this gene in breeding. Whilst if both horses are carriers its results in a 15% chance in breeding. If both horses have the Raven Coat gene it will have only a 20% Change of passing

Bridling is a rare gene and is probably one of the most commonly know marking gene being with stripes or bridle all over the body of the horse. With bridle it can appear on a horse without the need of breeding horse carriers, as such a horse can be made as a custom with the brindle marking. If the horse was to be bred it would result in: Brindle x Brindle= 35% Chance of passing, Brindle x Carrier= 20% Chance of passing, Carrier x Carrier= 10% Chance of passing

Chim Disorder is a rare gene and just like Bridling is very well know for making a horse have two separate colors as if a two horses merged together (This does not include white). The Chim Disorder is a Disorder in Saros from over inbreeding. As it is a Disorder to the breed, if a horse has it, the horse cannot breed with any other horse as it will be result in a lethal foal. Chim Disorder can not be passed on by breeding two chims for this reason. If the horse happens to only be a carrier it will have a 40% chance of passing to its foal no matter if both are carriers or just one of them is.
