- Defense mechanisms: Thick fur and thick skin to ward off the cold, thick fur around the neck wards off fatal bites, long straight horns and thick sturdy skull to withstand bashing impacts, heavy paws and thick, strong claws for strong strikes, long heavy tail for balancing while running, standing on hind legs, or striking powerfully enough to snap smaller trees in two, 8,000psi bite force
- Abilities: capable of standing on hand legs for extended periods of time though cannot walk on two legs easily due to being heavy, mutations can manifest various powers and new abilities such as flight
- Diet: smaller slayers, various meats including fish and big game, nuts, and berries, most have an intolerance to leafage
- Predators: larger slayers, other large predators pose competition for slayers, though nothing naturally hunts these beasts
Culture
- Social: The northern variant occupies more of a hive structure. A Cave system could house many packs united under a larger, more powerful, or better established pack. The collective voice of each Alpha is called the hive mind.
- Preferred Habitat: cold, dry areas. Well equipped for and used to the frigid areas present higher up on the planet's mountains the northern variant tends to take up residence in caves on the face of the mountains, their weight once applied to stone is often enough to crack and split boulders which their thick, sturdy claws have no problems slicing further into smaller pieces with some work. Inside these caves, chambers molded out of clay, branches, and packed soil can be found dividing them further.
- Language: Their vocal language ranges between growls, grunts, bellows, and snorts.
- Gender Ratio: Unfortunately due to the harshness of the environment in which they live, the northern variant of the species has evolved to produce more male offspring than female, in about a 3:1 ratio.
