Silence hung in the den after Hecate and The Oracle departed. Morningstar wasn't sure how long she sat there. She wasn't keeping track. Her mind was a frenzy of thoughts, one of which was a frequent saying of her father's; 'As chaotic as a night with no moon'. GealachClan were most certainly in the dark.

She had only seen one fire on her life; they weren't too common in their lands. It was as beautiful as it was wild and wicked, the dancing embers near entrancing had the mere sight not caused an innate fear. And the smoke. It whipped its way down a feline's throat and clung on desperately, smothering the breath from within. One fire, experienced from afar, had been enough.

    And yet here they were.

The sound of Littleburr's breath catching brought Morningstar back. She glanced up to the fluffy tom, trying to gauge his emotions from his face in the dim lighting. It surprised her that he was near unreadable. His flicking tailtip was the only sign of irritation, a sign of the situation being grave.

    "Littleburr-"

"I need to go to the Moon Glade." He suddenly interrupted her speech, his voice gravelly and low. "Now, if you'll allow it."

She frowned briefly, immediately discontent with the idea. "I don't know..."

    "I'll take some of the cats who've experienced fire before. The former rogues. You need to speak to Làidir, the Council, prepare for it." Even in the dark sleeping quarters, Morningstar could sense the urgency in Littleburr's tone. Desperation, even. She hesitated, only for a few heartbeats, and then;

"Be as quick and as cautious as you can."

Without little more than a nod, Littleburr hurried from the den, the sound of his rushed pace fading away. She turned to Thistlegaze, who had remained silent throughout their exchange. His face was vastly different to Littleburr. Every emotion, every thought, all of it formed across his face and body. Morningstar felt it unwise to interrupt his thoughts, and so turned to her own.

The words had described the fire as so... Viciously excited to cause agony and destruction. It made her uncomfortable to even think about. Fire, taking pleasure from such a disaster, dancing in its' own despairing path.

    A world on fire.

Morningstar could only hope it referred to what this blaze would feel like, rather than their entire home being literally engulfed in the inferno. The images crept upon her once more. A horizon filled with wildflowers upon the moor, replaced with cinders to be carried away by the wind. Night almost as bright as day, the flames leaping higher than the trees and mountains themselves.

"Littleburr is right. We need to speak to the Council, and now. This can't wait."

The small tortoiseshell looked up at her deputy's words, somewhat relieved he had pulled together some thoughts. 'At least one of us can be cohesive right now,' she said silently, bitter that she couldn't collect herself as quickly as he did.

"Send someone to locate Làidir, but don't tell them why. Another disaster...," she explained, her meaning clear. Panicked clan equals mistakes. Her own panic was slowly building.

"Those final lines... I need to form a plan with others," she responded, rising to her paws. Thistlegaze nodded, swiftly exiting to gather the most trustworthy and knowledgeable clan members. Now was the time to act, before the fire could strike first. She would not let her clan fall to the flames.

Arcticstar's eyes closed shut as the den grew silent. Their hushed whispers about the situation hung in the air. The light colored leader opened her eyes and stared at the two visitors in her den. Hecate shifted uncomfortably at the silence and Arcticstar only furrowed her brows at her.
"If that is all, I think it's time for you two to go." She spoke in a hushed manner.
The two cats in the den nodded, eyeing each other as the leader escorted them out of the cave. The three parted ways as the blue pointed she-cat wandered her way to the medicine den. These two needed to know.
--
"A-Arcticstar!" Woolpaw yelped as the leader wandered into the bush den. The chinchilla bicolor apprentice stumbled back on her rear from stocking herbs at the surprise of her leader. Her brother wandered from behind a corner of the den and made his way up to the two she-cats.
"Woolpaw, Sheeppaw, I've come to discuss-" She started.
"We know, Arcticstar." Sheeppaw cut her off.
She leader's eyes widened, "But-"
"We may have overheard it a bit, we wont tell. We must keep the clan calm in a time like this."
The leader nodded at the two young medicine cats and sat down, "So what should we do..?" She whispered.
Her once calm exterior racked with fear. Her legs shook as she tried to calm herself. Fire has never been able to pass the river. Sure, it burned down the forest a few times but if it reaches the camp? How? How would the fire manage to seep over the water. It wasn't possible, yet the message...
She sighed and glanced at the siblings, whose eyes were the same as hers. Scared. Hopeless. Worried for the outcome.
Sheeppaw looked up at the leader, "What was the last line of the message?" He asked, padding at the den floor.
Arcticstar thought for a moment, before replying, "It said 'two become one and fate does turn,'"
Sheeppaw and Woolpaw's eyes both widened, "You...you might not like this but..what if it's Duskpaw?" Woolpaw spoke softly.
Sheeppaw nodded at his sisters words, "Two become one. Night and day?" He questioned.
"Or..his friends..Polarpaw and Inkkit.." Woolpaw looked at him, then looked to Arcticstar. Her expression was...interesting. She looked confused..hurt..angry almost? But somewhere in the emotions on her face was hope. She looked hopeful. Hopeful that there was maybe a solution to this.
Arcticstar sighed, erasing her emotions and going back to her emotionless expression, "I..Let's get some rest for now..we'll figure this out in the morning."
And with those last words, the leader stood up and rushed out of the den, leaving the thought of Duskpaw being the solution to this mess fresh in her mind. (427 words)

You have deliberated. Hecate needs a decision.
Will you band together like the prophecy foretold or will you make your own stand?

»»———— • ————««
The approach of sunhigh has your nerves on end, both expectant of and dreading the coming meeting. Your clan seems tolerant of their partnership, for the most part, more concerned with the ever-increasing fires plaguing the edges of your territory than they are of working with the rogues. Perhaps you should have taken it up with all of them originally. Then again, they might not have been eager to work with previous aggressors before you territory started burning; disaster was a good motivator.

When it comes time to depart you take your healer and two of your warriors, not wanting to seem like you're distrustful of Hecate by bringing too many cats but wanting to be cautious, regardless. You won't be surprised if she has others at her side just as you do. The trip to the edge of your territory is dull, which you can only be thankful for. The quiet was better than the almost constant smell of smoke on the breeze. The quiet chatter of your clanmates behind you soothes your frayed nerves, proof you're all still alright for the time being. You can only hope it stays that way in the days to follow.

You reach the meeting place before Hecate and her cats, it seems, and all of you settle down to wait. You can't help but remember a similar situation when the rogues had first gotten to your territory, where you had had a meeting in much unfriendlier terms. You were sure you never imagined this, then; your clan working with the rogues against a common enemy. It was almost funny how fast situations could change.

A rustling shakes you out of your head and you snap to attention, ears shifting forward. A quick scent of the air calms you, the scent of the rogues clear in the air. They follow shortly, pushing into your meeting place. Hecate offers a nod of greeting and you return it before allowing your eyes to stray to her companions. Etna is present, along with Pan, and you're glad for the friendly faces. She has another cat you don't know with her, and after a quick once over you turn back to her. You understand why she may have left the Oracle at home, the tom wasn't the friendliest and didn't seem concerned with much of went on around him, but you're confused at the absence of Janus. He was a little two-faced based on your interaction with him but he was smart, and from what you understood one of her advisors; his presence seemed to be warranted.

Before you can second guess your inquiry, you open your mouth, "Did Janus not wish to come? This seems like something he'd be interested in." The immediate prickle of discomfort in the air tells you this was probably not a good subject, but before you can try to brush over it Etna is speaking up.

"He's dead."

You blink at the abruptness, started by the shift in the usually polite tom. It takes a moment longer for the words to sink in. "What," you snap out, more exclamation than a question, "When did it happen?" The tom had been nothing but kind to you and had played a part in stopping the war with the rogues before it happened. You can't help but be a little ruffled by it, even if you hadn't known him well.

Hecate's shoulder's raise a bit, her posture slouching. It strikes you, that even though they had seemed to be quarreling when you first met them, that she had been mending relations with her group. There was no telling how close they had ended up getting, and, from what you understood, they had been good friends before their original falling out. His death probably affected her more than it seemed to. "A few months ago," she eventually offers. "We don't know what happened." And you could imagine how much that stung.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to open old wounds." You shift uncomfortably on your paws, not happy with the tense shroud hanging over everyone now. Turning your attention to Etna again you ask, "How's Nike? She must be close to grown now?" It doesn't completely rid everyone of the somber mood but it's a good enough change in subject.

Etna practically lights up, as he seems to do with anything concerning his sister. "She is! Bigger than even Pan now," he chuckles, "And, between us, in a little bit of a moody young adult stage. She'll grow out of it eventually."

Hecate sends him a disbelieving look at this, and you can't help the snort of laughter when you remember that even as a kit she had quarreled with the tiny she-cat. To see them interact now.

Rolling her eyes Hecate cuts in, shaking off anything that shows beyond her usual indifference, "While catching up is pleasant, we have bigger concerns right now."

Despite the terseness of her tone, you can't help but agree. "Right. Did you get any more messages? Or figure out what they want us to do?"

The rogue leader shakes her head, tail lashing. "No, they've gone quiet. And I don't know beyond what the omen said. Clearly, we've seen the fire portion. I have a feeling it's only going to get worse. And it clearly wants us to work together to solve it but I'm not sure how we're to do that. How is any cat capable of stopping a fire?"

"I don't know. Perhaps there's something causing it? Something they mean for us to stop." You're grasping at tails, you know. All of you are working blind on this, but you can't imagine what else they could mean. They wouldn't tell you to work together to stop something with no cause, that would be pointless.

Everyone stews in silence for a moment, trying to puzzle out the riddle you'd been given when Pan speaks up. "You guys have good ancestors right? They're the ones that sent our healer the message. Don't you have bad ones too? Couldn't they be doing something?"

You all stare at him for a moment in various states of surprise. Your own healer is the first to recover, springing forward, eyes bright, "We do! They normally don't have enough substance to them to do anything but if something were stirring them up, perhaps they could."

"Stirring them up?" Hecate asks, eyebrows drawn, "What do you mean?"

"Some source of energy. Another cat, most likely."

"A cat's doing this? Who would want to ruin both groups?" You don't know who says that, too caught up in your own whirring thoughts, staring at Hecate. You shouldn't be so caught up on it, but something Pan had said bothered you. Their healer had gotten it, was what he had offered as an explanation, but on the first night in your den, Hecate had said the Oracle had received it. The old tom had no paw in healing last you remembered, and you don't know why Pan would call him that, anyway; not when he knew his name. Had they gotten a new healer after Janus? And if they had why wouldn't Hecate say the prophecy had come from them instead of the Oracle. Perhaps she had been- "Clan cat." Your attention jerks to Hecate, face curious. You could see the others looking at you in your peripheral as well. Had you missed a question?

Huffing, Hecate asks, again you assume, "Do you know of any cat that would have such a quarrel with you that they'd want to ruin your clan? Or my group?"

You shake your head in response, awareness filtering back in. Maybe you were thinking too hard about this, and it had just been a slip of the tongue. Like Hecate had said, you have bigger things to worry about.

"Well. Clearly, we won't solve who's behind it sitting here. Perhaps we can all send out more patrols. If a cat is causing this they have to be around." She turns her eyes to your healer, "Maybe try to talk to your ancestors? They may know. I'll ask the Oracle to try to as well."

"Talk to your elders too, maybe they remember events or old enemies you don't," Etna adds, smiling a little. "We'll figure this out, I'm sure."

You envy him his optimism, you have no such hopes over a quick or good conclusion. You can only wish to be proven wrong. "That's all we can do right now. I'll send word if we find anything, you'll do the same?"

Hecate nods, rising to her paws. "Luck be with all of us. Let's hope we can resolve this before cats start getting hurt." She signals for her cats to fall in behind her, leading them out of the clearing with head and tail high, exuding confidence you can't muster at the moment. You suppose you'll all see.

With a huff you get to your feet, waving your own cats into a loose group. "Let's head back. We can start looking into it when we're home." Despite yourself, you feel grim about the whole thing. If a cat was causing this you had more trouble than raging flames on your paws. Any cat foolish enough to meddle with dark spirits was one that had no care for the havoc they brought about. This could easily be the end of all of you.

Clan Thread: SycamoreClan
Prompt Writing:

Sycamorestar was nervous and apprehensive about the meeting as sun high started to draw near. The three cats had agreed on the approach of how to deal with this meeting since despite all of their efforts to make sure fires weren't starting was failing. No matter how much they tried to clear the forest floor, the fires continued to pop up.

When it was time to go, he left with Birchheart and Owlpaw in tow. He could feel the two were tense about this meeting and he couldn't blame them. The smell of smoke that constantly lingered in the air continuously kept him on edge so this meeting couldn't be as bad. His head remained in a blur as he brought his Clanmates to the meeting spot. Before long the rouges were there with the she-cat, Hecate, in the lead. He felt panic at the numbers of the rouges, reminding him again that his Clan was drastically under numbered.

Birchheart placed his tail tip on his shoulder and he felt the hair on the back of his neck lay flat as the meeting started. "Have you received any new messages? Or make sense of the first one?" Sycamorestar asked. Hecate shook her head.

"No, they've gone quiet. And I don't know beyond what the omen said. Clearly, we've seen the fire portion. I have a feeling it's only going to get worse. And it clearly wants us to work together to solve it but I'm not sure how we're to do that. How is any cat capable of stopping a fire?" Sycamorestar was silent for a moment.

"Maybe they want us to stop something?" He suggested. One of the cats suggested that there was there might be an ancestor, a spirit, unlike the one that sent the message that could be behind it. He had heard about something like this from his visit to StarClan but he could place who would want to sabotage both groups. Their questioning about if there was a cat they knew that would do something like stir up such spirit but him on edge. He trusted the two cats next to him and he hoped they trusted him.

He felt sick as they asked him to question his elders. If this threat was coming from inside his Clan, it had to be one of the two cats beside him. He prayed deeply to StarClan it wasn't them but he would consult with StarClan soon about the situation. After that, he had to find out about their pasts to see if there's anything or any cat that would do something like this to harm them.

After both parties went their separate ways, there was a tense silence heading back to camp. The three of them were distrustful of each other. Even Birchheart walked at a distance from Sycamorestar and it stung him to his core. Once they reached the familiar flowing field in front of their camp, Sycamorestar stopped and turned to them.

"This is by no means an attack on anyone here. I trust you, both of you. And if there is any information that you have, we can solve this together as a Clan, and as a family."

"Neither of us have," Birchheart answered. "But I know there must be an angry cat or two from my old group that could be doing this as revenge for me leaving them behind." Sycamorestar nodded.

"We'll start there and with StarClan. But for now, let's leave this tenseness behind us. We can't and won't let this destroy us."

Clan Thread: Meadowclan
Prompt Writing:

The sun beat down on the three Meadowclan cats as they retreated from their appointed meeting with Hecate. In the lead was the smoke calico Deputy, Halfmask. A foxlength behind her was the charcoal spotted rogue warrior, Nightrunner. Taking up the rear was Meadowclan's leader, the sleek lynx-point, Lynxstar.

No one spoke instead there was only the rhythmic sound of the trample of their paws as they marched towards their camp. No one wanted to say aloud what all their thoughts were consumed by: who...what cat could be vile enough to be responsible for the fire at their doorstep?

Lynxstar had to process the information from their meeting as the remaining members of their clan, Lakelight and Heronpaw, would be expecting a full report of the meeting once they arrived home. And every Meadowclan cat would be looking to their leader for what their next steps would be.

Lynxstar narrowed her eyes as she brooded over the recent dark tidings. If some feline was responsible for the fires surely it couldn't be anyone from her clan? Halfmask was the most loyal, the most passionate Deputy she had ever met. The she-cat would rather give her life than see her clan harmed!Lakelight was a new member, but he had proven himself by volunteering to mentor Heronpaw and Starclan knows he was just what the he-kit needed. Little Heronpaw, there wasn't an ill-meaning bone in his body. That left only Nightrunner. Lynxstar's jaw tightened as many worries bombarded her at once. Nightrunner was a special case in their clan. He came to Meadowclan by the way of the Mysterious Ones, as all clan cats so far, and yet the Mysterious Ones had urged her to try and coax the tom into clan life. He would not come willingly. So, Starclan was behind him joining the clan. He couldn't possibly turn on them.

The she-cat was brought out of her thoughts as she passed through the gorse-lined entrance to camp.

“Lynxstar! What's the news?! What's the news?!” a young blue kit shouted while hopping from paw to paw.

Lynxstar couldn't help but smile at his energy as she padded past him to the Great Oak at the back of camp. She lept lightly to the hollow in the center of the tree to alert all that a gathering was taking place.

“I have much news, young one.”

All of Meadowclan gathered: Halfmask to her favorite sunning rock beneath the tree, Lakelight to her right, Heronpaw next to Lakelight, and Nightrunner apprehensively sitting in the back.

“We have spoken with Hecate and the other rogues. They have not gotten any word as to what is causing these fires. So, we will be searching for answers. Halfmask and I will leave at Sundown to the Leafless Tree. If Starclan is with us we will be back with word by Sunup.”

Murmurs broke out throughout the clan members. If they were knocking on Starclan's door they were desperate... and Nightrunner and Halfmask must be surprised Lynxstar chose not to discuss Hecate's suspicion that a cat must be working with dark spirits. Was Lynxstar making the right choice? Time would tell.

Clan Thread: GealachClan
Prompt Writing:

Morningstar felt knots twisting in the hollows of her growling stomach, anxiety writhing within like snakes in their pit. Waiting for the clan to gather didn't take long, though she felt burdened by each moment that went by. How was she supposed to break this news to her clanmates; her friends and family? Curiosity was clear across the faces of most cats beneath, though concern and worry were present too. It only added to her nerves.

"You'll be fine." The small tortoiseshell glanced to her left at Littleburr. He was seated beside her, ready to help explain what was happening to the clan. They had discussed it before the meeting was called, that it was logical for the medicine cat to help explain a prophecy had been delivered. She was grateful for his presence, but he offered little relief to her own growing troubles.

Finally, Morningstar build the momentum within herself to address her patiently-waiting clan. "I'm sure some of you will have realised by now that something has been... Flustering the Council and I of late. I believe you have the right to know why," she began, taking a deep breath as she collected her thoughts. "A prophecy was delivered to The Oracle, involving both us and Hecate's group."

Immediately, chatter broke out amongst GealachClan. Hushed tones of confusion, whisperings of theories. She paused, waiting for the clan to compose themselves, and carried on. Morningstar lost track of time. The words flew from her mouth, like a sparrow weaving through the boughs and brush of the forest. The prophecy, the details of the meeting... The information overwhelmed her, even now.

It was Littleburr that brought her back to the present, his tail tip gently brushing against her back. Morningstar blinked, scanning the faces of her clanmates for several heartbeats. She expected questions, or talk, but they were just... Quiet. Was this a dream?

Eventually, a voice shattered the silence. Morningstar didn't see who it was, didn't process who the voice belonged to.

"What do you think could be this... Source of energy, Morningstar?"

Good question. One that she wished she knew the answer to. Her words failed to form, though her mouth opened as if she had a rapid reply.

"Since the Ancestors have remained silent since... We don't know, is the honest answer. We felt that, in sharing this with you all, that you could perhaps... Shed light on something we may have missed. Something overlooked that one of you may have caught."

Morningstar smiled at Littleburr; that tired smile that spoke a thousand words of gratitude. "Don't let this prophecy worry you all too much; that's what the Council and I are for," she meowed, a gentle joking tone to help lighten the tense air. "All we ask of you is to come to one of us if you think you may have something to help, and please stay alert when out in the territory. Thank you, and may the moon guide your head and heart well."

She quickly disappeared into her den to brood over her thoughts after closing the meeting. It seemed she wouldn't find that peace she hoped for, as she had clanmate after clanmate appear in her den for the rest of the day, sharing pieces of information they hoped would help, or theorising further with her about what else the prophecy was saying. Her clan intended on fighting together.
