Rules

Postby Hawky<3 » Tue Jul 17, 2018 11:34 am

    1. All site and Rise rules apply during this event.
    2. Once you choose a path you can't go back; choose wisely.
    3. All prompt answers are to be submitted via their respective form on their respective thread.
    4. Once a new writing prompt it opened up, you can't go back and answer a previous one. You can jump in on a current prompt even if you haven't participated in previous ones.
    5. Art prompts are open for the entire event.
    6. You may only answer each prompt once.
    7. You aren't required to do both the art and writing prompts; do what you're able.
** 8. It's suggested that you post your art prompt in a separate post if you don't do the art and the writing prompt at the same time. Editing your post with previous writing prompts will likely end up with the art not counted as it will be missed. On the last day of each writing prompt, any edits after the stated end time will disqualify your writing prompt in that post (at the time of judging).

»»———— • ————««

You decide your best course of action would be to drive this new group out. They're taking the food your clan needs to survive and encroaching on your territory and you need to get rid of them. You sit back and watch their patrols for a few days to figure out the usual paths they take, and to see if you can ascertain the number of cats in their group. Once you have the information you need, you make your move. You pick a well-traveled path and lay in wait, ready to take on the first patrol that wanders past your hiding place.

»»———— • ————««

Writing Prompt: How does your clan feel about going into battle with this invading group?

Art Prompt: Draw your leader laying in wait to ambush the next unsuspecting patrol.

»»———— • ————««

End Date: This writing prompt closes at 11:59 pm EST on the 19th. The art prompt does not close.

Prompt Writing:
"We must make our move now!" Amberstar yelled out from atop leader's rock. Her warriors had been disruptive during this meeting due to being on edge and antsy from the concept of battle. "From what we have gathered these past few days while on our patrols, we can estimate that this band of cats has roughly seven members. They tend to become more active near sunset, and for that reason, we will be ambushing them tonight. They seem to linger around the north edge of the forest, just a few minutes run north of here. Not all of you will be joining this battle. I have chosen seven of you to join along my side in this battle. Those who I have not chosen will be staying behind here to guard the camp. We have only seen cats within the forest. We don't know if more are coming. Will I need to repeat that, or did you all keep your maws shut long enough?!" Amberstar hissed out, frustration present in her tone and gaze. Her clan was silent, nodding obediently.

"Then will Mayflower, Sagestrike, Cindershade, Brackenhaze, Heatherpool, Aspencloud, and Morningdew please make their way towards the camp entrance. We will discuss more there. This meeting is dismissed. Leave silently." The meeting disbanded, the cats not named retreating into their dens. Amberstar leaped down from her rock, making her way forward towards the cats lingering near the entrance. "I have chosen you seven because your abilities seem most fit for this assault. We will be making our way to the river, and hiding in a series of rocks to the east. I will be able to see them from within. Once I give you the sign, you simply charge forward, and strike at whatever trespasser's pelt is before you. They have undoubtedly sensed our presence, and decided to stay despite knowing damn well this is our territory. Let's give those mousebrains a good thrashing. I would prefer death not be involved, but do not hesitate if you find it necessary. Let's go." The cats surrounding Amberstar began to yowl excitedly as they flooded out of the camp.

To say that the cats of Silentclan loved battle was an understatement. Silentclan rarely had threats in numbers, and often the warriors rarely got action with trespassing cats. Whenever there was a threat, all the warriors would be excited solely because of the lack of activity that is often present in Silentclan otherwise. The thrill that cats of Silentclan got from battle was unlike any other; a sort of ecstasy without the determining effects from being deprived of it. Amberstar had chosen warriors that she not only knew hadn't gotten a good slice of battle in a while, but would have no problem with killing a trespassing cat if it came to it. She wanted the strongest and most deserving cats on this patrol, as well as cats she knew would be excited for the battle.

The patrol moved swiftly, making their way towards the north. Briefly, they would stop and sniff out any unfamiliar odors before pressing on. They eventually reached the river, and made their way towards the east. They soon reached a large cluster of rocks, the surface smooth from rushing water that would splash upwards. One by one, the cats jumped between the stones, hiding themselves and their scents beneath the musty water. Amberstar was the last to jump in, and she crouched down, her hazel eyes locked on the opening. The sky was a variety of orange and purple hues, and that's when she knew..

Grand battle was approaching. [600 words]

Fractureclan's Feelings on Fighting

Even Larch himself could admit that Fractureclan might not be the best-suited for this sort of challenge so early on. There were a lot of things that he would have preferred to be different before taking on a group of rogues. First of all, he still had not found the sacred place Starclan told him of in his dreams, meaning he only had a single life to work with. He only had two other clan members to count on, and both of them had yet to truly prove their loyalty. Yet, Larch was confident. This was the perfect chance to see exactly how Pakupaku and Ayomide would react to being asked to back up their words of allegiance with actions. This was also a chance to get the locals to take Fractureclan more seriously. After all, it was much harder to laugh at cats that could defend themselves from invasions. While Larch was aware of the dangers, he was also excited to meet this challenge head-on.
He had been pleasantly surprised with Pakupaku and Ayomide had agreed to fight so readily. Pakupaku seemed to follow the logic Larch presented and agreed with the conclusion that fighting the intruders off was the best course of action, while Ayomide was mostly silent on the matter, but went along with things in the end.

Larch glanced behind him as he padded across a dirt patch between two boulders. The pair of longhaired bicolors that were his first clanmates followed behind. Neither were fully aware of his musings, but Pakupaku did notice that his leader seemed thoughtful about something.
"Don't worry, camp will be fine.", he assured Larch. "We trust you that there are three of them, right Ayomide?"
The caliby at the back of the trio coughed in response, leading to a short, awkward pause before Pakupaku continued.
"Right. Well, anyways, it'll be three-on-three and we have the element of surprise."
Larch felt confidence well up within him as he listened to the tom's supportive words. He must have assumed that Larch was worried about leaving camp unattended to fight off the invaders and was reassuring him that his plan to confront them three-on-three was a better option than allow them to outnumber Fractureclan for the sake of leaving someone behind.
"Of course.", Larch agreed. "Now, let's quiet down. We're getting close."

Silence followed. The trio's pace slowed as they neared the border where the invaders had been spotted the most frequently. Soon, the confrontation would begin. For now, it was time to wait. Fractureclan knew the plan. All that was left was to execute it. Larch prayed to Starclan that his companions would be as reliable as their supportive words indicated. He would find out shortly.

(Note that I am referring to Fractureclan cats by their loner names as they have not yet earned their warrior names at this point in their timeline.
Larch = Larchstar
Pakupaku = Littlecloud
Ayomide = Patchstream)

Prompt Writing:
With the decision finalized and plans coming together, each cat went off to think. Each had something to fight for or protect and with a possibility of war coming each needed a moment to pull themselves together.

Twinstar - the calico retired to her den, the decision wasn’t hard and she knew that some of her clan mates... some other family may not survive the battle that may unfold. But it was their clan ad their territory and she knew each would put down their lives for it.

Bellerose and Dualgaze - retiring to the medicine cat den the duo laid together in Dualgazes nest. The two weren’t official yet but they had grown close and if Bellerose had anything to fight for it would be Dualgaze. Dualgaze on the other hand feared she would run out of herbs. She feared that she wouldn’t be able to help her clan if she ran out of the precious commodity.

Flickerheart - like always Flickerheart was ready for a fight. She was in peak shape and would fight to her last breath.

Cactusflight - the sandy Tom wasn’t one for fighting. He had hoped they would have come to a different decision but he was loyal to his clan and would fight with them till the end.

Owleyes - the orange tabby hid away in a tunnel, his rage form pacing back and forth as he thought. He wasn’t good at fighting, he was raised as a kitty pet and a couple moons of hard training did not ready him for what may come. He considered leaving, running and hiding but knew he couldn’t. He had to be here for Bellerose and Wavekit. That’s it... he would offer to stay behind and protect the kits.

Moonseer - the albino male was glad that they had decided to try and capture the cat during nighttime. He wanted to be of the most use he could and Night was the best time to do that.

Briarsong - the long haired orange tabby was itching for a fight, he hadn’t had a good battle for a while and he was excited to use some of his taunting jokes during it.

Wavekit and Amberkit - the kits didn’t have much clue as to what was happening but they could feel the tension. They were told that there were to be no fooling around, sneaking out, or anything like that. From the tone of Twinstars voice they knew it was serious.

    Clan Thread: Swampclan

    Prompt Writing:

It was moon high, the stars glimmering brightly under the full moon and Owlstar stared into the dark swampland with growing apprehension. Her fur was covered in mud and moss. And likewise many of her warriors wore the same disguises. While uncomfortable at first when dry, she had to hand it to Possumpaw, the apprentice knew a thing or two about blending in. And right now there was no way to detect them like this.

Cats back in camp were eager to wish them well and were well prepared to defend themselves too. No one knew these waters like Swampclan and for once the awful alligators that made their homes on the shores and banks could come in handy if things go awry. Owlstar's thoughts darkened but she shook her head. Not that it would come to that. She'd make sure of it personally.

They were eager. Swampclan had not had proper battle in moons, not counting the feud between Marshclan and Swampclan. And so was she. Owlstar couldn't help herself truthfully. The challenge was just tempting and her claws ached with familiarity. How long had it been since the leader truly got to battle? She almost wanted to thank this group for giving her a reason to stretch her claws. And she had chosen well on her cats. Had made sure to.

Roansplash, Mongoosepaw, Possumpaw and Ivorystep sat in wait near what they had discovered an old badger's den, abandoned well and truly making for the perfect hiding place.

In the trees lurked Mintriver, Mottledfeather, Snakewhisper and Cherryfrost easily making them able to see any of the action, Snakewhisper watching piercingly from above. His job was to give the signal at just the right moment. And with her stood Heatherwillow, Guppypaw and Dog who was to wait in case of emergency.

A patrol of those strange cats had just walked past her three times. And all her warriors were lying in wait, eager to get to work on these misbegotten cats. They'd soon see the error of their ways. For now however, Swampclan lay in wait for the signal as they moved closer and closer into position. In the darkness, she could see two odd colored eyes blinking at her and recognized them to belong to Roansplash.

She could see the determination in his eyes and hoped her own could express the same fiery passion. They would give these cats every inch of what they deserved for invading on their territory. She grinned in the darkness.

    They'd pay for this.

Prompt Writing

The camp was quiet when the final decision had been made. They would stand and fight, keeping the land they had defended before. Falconstar knee that preparations would have to be made, and so standing above the heads of his clan, he selected a few set warriors to go with him into battle.
“Riversoul, Riptide, Gooselegs, Fallingbirch, Willowpaw, and Twigpaw. You’re all coming with me.”
There was an indignant grunt from his lower right paw, where Sharkheart was seated looking up at him. “What about me? I’m the strongest warrior we have.”
“Yes, you are. But you’re also the deputy, and most of the others will be back here where they need protections.” Falconstar turned back towards the clan, where his earlier cats he had named off were singling themselves out into a separate group. The rest of the clan looked pitifully small without the stronger warriors with it. “I want Wickerpaw and Ploverkit our gathering thorns for the mouth of the camp. Fawngaze will go with you. Honeysuckle will accompany Littlebee to gather herbs that could be used to heal the injured. Stonejaw will be placing the thorns Fawngaze’s group brings back and will keep her eyes high incase an alarm needs to be called.” With that, he dismissed the groups to busy themselves with the preparations.

Quietly leaping off the stump he padded to the war party. “I plan to attack at night where we’ll have the best cover. I don’t want them getting into our territory, so at low tide we’ll sneak across the river and take one of their hunting patrols.”
The small group was quiet as they were giving orders until, in a quiet voice, Willowpaw spoke up. “What if they just want to talk....”
This received a snort of contempt from Riptide. “They had plenty of chances to talk while they’ve been sneaking onto our land and taking our prey. This won’t stop with simple words!”
Willowpaw looked to Riversoul for help, but Falconstar felt the same as Riversoul and Riptide both. This probably wouldn’t end with soft words. When Riversoul didn’t say anything, Willowpaw cast her eyes downward and said no more. She would follow him into battle even without the threat to her home. She’d done it before. Gently, the blue point put his nose to her shoulder, and it was settled.
“Get some freshkill and rest. When dusk settles, we leave.” With that, Falconstar turned away to see how the rest of the camp felt.

Sharkheart had plenty to say on the subject when he found her still sat stone still under the stump. “I should be going with you with Wickerpaw,” she said instantly, her fur bristled out to twice her size.
“I agree, you should,” Falconstar said tiredly, and Sharkheart was taken off guard. “But the fact still remains that you are the deputy, and I need both of you here. I need someone who is willing to kill here, where you can fight to defend Stonejaw and Ploverkit. Fawngaze and Honeysuckle don’t have it in them to kill, and I don’t know what I would have done had you not been here when Fracture clan was at our barriers. The thorns only held for so long....”
“You can’t keep Wickerpaw here, Falconstar. He needs to taste battle while he’s young, and he needs a change to show you that he’s not some defenseless kit. He can fight. He doesn’t need to be protected.”

Clan Thread: Tideclan
Prompt Writing:

It was sun-high, the clan was already restless, they word from their leader rang in their mind from the last night.
“May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather below the High-Stack for a clan meeting!” Ternstar yowls from upon the stack made of oddly enough just hard-rock. The Tideclan cats slowly head onto the shore and then waft into the gentle waves, piling in front of the stature. Once they finish gathering around, they look up their leader expectantly.

“As each of you know too well, the rogues have been taking our land, slowly seeping in like poison into the body. It is time to get rid of them. We have two options.” Ternstar begins, and slowly walks around on the high-stack, “One. We talk to them and investigate and figure out what they want. Or two; we get them away for good.” The molly hisses with a lashing tail, her voice was strong and fuelled with threats and danger.

The cats murmur between each other as the waves pushed against them weakly, the eyes of their leader bearing into them. Willowbreeze suddenly spoke up, her gentle voice with fear, “Wildpaw has been by the Old Pools with his mentor, and he still hasn’t returned, the two of them!” causing the clan to gasp. It’s where the rogues have settled, “What if they have them?” Her voice panicked, and Ternstar’s eyes widened, the apprentice being like a son to her, and with the rogue situation she’s been too distracted to focus on him. Her eyes blaze to her members, “Make your decision now! Those who want to fight, stand up!” she yowls fiercely.
First, it’s one cat, then another, “If they have Wildpaw and [redacted], they’ll take more!” they shout, and more cats yowl in agreement, and also get up. By now most the clan is standing, except a few warriors, but they mew, “We agree with the need for battle, but we wish to stay here, and protect the camp.”
“Then it is so.” The leader’s voice strained through the sound of the sea, “At sun down tomorrow, we will head over and attack. We will discuss soon what we’ll do exactly. For now, go and prepare!” she bellows, and the cats dip their heads, before heading off to their dens and the clearing.

Willowbreeze nervously pads around, “Great starclan is he okay?” A patrol sent out prior already found where Wildpaw and his mentor is, and they got his mentor out, but not him. She heads over to the leader’s den, “Ternstar, could I speak with you?”
“Of course, Willowbreeze.” The molly nods, and Willowbreeze enters quietly before talking.
“Ternstar, I said earlier I want to stay and defend. But I want to make sure Wildpaw is okay when we get there. I want to join you with the battle.”
“Of course you can.” The leader dips her head, “I know you care for Wildpaw just as much.”
