Zirkus Genetics and Other Info

Postby GasW0lf » Wed Jun 08, 2016 7:50 am

Genes

Genetics are highly dependent on the sub-type of the Zirkus in question.

Basics
Zirk can have any range of colors and markings, however, the saturation of the colors highly depends of sub-type. For example a Forest Zirkus would generally have duller colors to blend in, but a Tropical Zirkus would have brighter colors to blend in with the flora.

Prevalent Genes and Traits
Genes found in all Zirk
Horns or antlers of any type are always found on a Zirkus along with three spikes on the upper back.
All Zirk sport a reptilian tail that should be about the length of their body from chest to rump.
All Zirk are highly intelligent and great hunters.
Zirk sport a forked tongue and snake-like nostrils and heat sensing pit. The pit is located above the nostrils.
Zirk lack claws with the exception of the hook dew claw. Zirk also have pads on their feet much like canines.
Omnivorous diet, but like meat more.

Forest - Forest types tend to be more agile and are large in size and sport medium coats of fur.

Boreal (taiga) Forest - Duller, less saturated colors that are very light in winter and slightly darker in summer. Average size of 200 cm at the head and light weight. They feature webbed paws to help stay on top of snow as well as large pads to keep traction on ice. Fur is thicker than other varieties.
Temperate Forest - Duller, less saturated colors that tend to be darker. Average size of 256 cm at the head and more heavy set.
Tropical Rainforest - Brighter, more saturated colors that range from dark to light. Average size of 178 cm at the head and very light weight and more agile than other variations of the Forest type as well as faster.

Grasslands - Grasslands Zirk are fast on their feet. They have shorter coats of fur.

Savanna - Duller, less saturated colors that are very light and tend to be of neutral color. Average size of 223 cm at the head and light weight. They are extremely fast and good at lunging at prey.
Temperate - Duller, less saturated colors that tend to be medium in tone. Average size of 200 cm at the head and more heavy set. These Zirk are very fast and agile, as well as good at stealth.

Desert - Small and quick Zirk with very light coloration and short shiny coats of fur. Average size of 137 cm at the head.

Wetlands - Small Zirk with light build and large paws. Tend to be darker, dull colors. These Zirk are great stealth hunters and also very good at swimming. Average size of 157 cm at the head.

Coastal - Small Zirk with light build and large webbed paws. Tend to be brighter highly saturated colors. These Zirk are great swimmers and can hold their breath for long periods of time. They can also uncommonly be found with a mutation that adds fins of various type on the body. Average of 124 cm at the head

Tundra - Large Zirk with light build and large webbed paws. Very light, dull coloration. These Zirk are great stealth hunters and also very fast and agile.

Domestic - Zirk with varying build that range from 86 - 200 cm at the head. Coloration varies greatly. These Zirk are great for riding or house pets depending on the size. They tend to be more docile than wild types and have a more omnivorous diet.

Image
Genes

Basics
Color Sprites are very basic creatures that only sport up to three colors normally. Females have a tendency to be duller while males will be brighter to attract mates. They are usually only about the size of a teacup chihuahua but can be a bit smaller or bigger.

Prevalent Traits
Antlers of any type are always found on a Color Sprites along with 6-8 spikes on the back.
Small wings. (thought to be the remnant of evolution)
All Color Sprites sport a long fluffy tail with a kink towards the end.
Light green areas (marked on the image above) glow in low-light situations.
Omnivorous diet

Mutation Search
Genes, genes, and more genes! Currently we are looking for suggestions on possible mutations to add to our list and we would love your help. Please feel free to suggest any mutation Excluding anything that would change the tail other than possibly a kink or add-on to it. We will take all suggestions into consideration and if we like them we will assign them to a type we see fit and give them a rarity!

(marking to add a long list of mutation suggestions once I get on a computer in like 12 hours, assuming the good ones won't all have been thought of and this is, in fact, the right place. (damn, I love brainstorming. Also, this species is really cool-looking).

Edit: Okie doke! Are you looking for just line edit-type mutations or also colouring/pattern/pigment mutations? I'm mostly going to put down line editish mutations rn but please do let me know if colour mutations are a thing you're looking for!

- additional eye(s)/sensory patches
- heterochromia (or similar)
- ear mutations - similar to other animals, differently shaped, smaller or larger, folded
- fur mutations - longer, shorter, more tufted, more silky, patchy
- visible teeth or fangs
- tongue: non-forked, triple-forked, two-coloured, split or non-existent
- visible claws/talons
- spike mutations: no spikes, bigger spikes, the full dragon spiky look (head to base of tail), spikes on 'elbow' or 'knee/ankle' joints or over shoulders, spikes modelled after existing creatures (e.g. lionfish, porcupine)
- horn mutations: more than two, unicorn, none, based off existing creatures (e.g. curly ram's horns, ibex/other antelope, uh... rhino?) )
