Confiscated, returned, and otherwise homeless domestic Ikplets are kept in a fenced enclosure where they can continue to mingle and exercise. You can adopt one pound Ikplet per day.

To put an Ikplet in the pound, provide either their ID or name. To adopt an Ikplet from the pound, ask for them by either ID or name. Additional information can be attached to an Ikplet when it's left in the pound, such as personality/history, but as this isn't recorded in the Archive it's up to the new owner to keep it.

Ikplets' body names may only be changed if they have not been bred. Tail names can be changed any time.
Unnamed Ikplets must be named upon adoption.

How exactly do I use dice?

Dice and other breeding items only come up if you're posting a breeding entry. In the same post as the breeding entry, you may either use a previously purchased breeding item, or purchase one. Both of these will only be carried out if you win a nest.

Dice do not stack. Using multiple will just apply them to multiple whelps rather than stacking on one, so you'll have to give a goal for each dice. Here, I'm increasing my chances for albinism on one whelp and clone for another. You can't boost different chances on one whelp: one dice, one roll, on one whelp.

Why is the limit 4?

I like the number four.

Can I enter multiple batch raffles at once?

Yes, but you can only apply for 1 per batch. You can't apply for all of the Ikplets in a single batch!
This rule may vary depending on special batches and how big they are. In which case, it'll be specified in the batch itself.

Why are the head mask and tail always the same? Can they be mismatched?

They're always the same because the Ikplet's mask is based on the tail's head. They can only be mismatched if specifically requested in a custom form.

Can I give my Ikplet powers or otherwise place them in a fantasy setting?

Go nuts! The thread assumes a realistic setting, but you're free to place 'em wherever you want. A kingdom of Ikplets with elemental powers? 's all good. This also applies to batch entries: you don't have to keep them in a realistic setting, such as when writing a history. This also applies to owners, whenever they appear in RP or art; they don't have to be human.

Can we add extras to our forms?

Yup. Unless otherwise noted, prettying up and additional art don't add anything.

How do Northern Ikplets communicate with their tails?

That's up to you to decide. Telepathy, magic, complex ear gestures, whatever you can come up with.

If I have more than 4 Ikplets, do I have to get rid of enough to bring it down to 3 to adopt one from a batch?

No. Say you have 6, 4 adopted from normal batches 2 from breeding. To free up a batch slot, you have to give up 1 of the 4 batch Ikplets. Bred ones do not affect the /4 limit.
Batch Ikplets don't have known parents in the archive, which makes them easy to distinguish.

What are babies called?

Fawns, pups, and whelps all work. Personally, I use whelp.

I tried to adopt something and never got a response...

If it's from the pound or from a nest, individual responses unfortunately aren't given; this would get spammy. Instead, check the archive for your name, and track changes there. This also applies to purchases. In general responses are only given if something is wrong.

Can I make my Ikplet smaller than usual?

Sure, though if they're too undersized this may cause health issues- namely when it comes to breeding, lowering the number of total safe breedings they have.

If customs are closed, can I still make my own custom?

Yes! Customs generally only close if there's a backlog of customs for the staff to do. You are more than welcome to make your own custom or get a friend to do it! Just make sure it still follows your ticket's limitations.

I'm making my own custom, but it says random markings, what do I do?

This only really takes effect when staff or anyone other than yourself is making the custom. 'Random' markings are really just the artist's choice in what looks nice to them. So were you to make your own custom, it would just be you making the choices, though you're free to randomize the markings yourself if you want a bit of challenge.

● Southern Ikplets can not climb trees. The northerns can, though, with some difficulty. This ability is to most likely to reach high-up things such as bird eggs and some fruits.

Welcome to Ikplets Adopts! Some systems here may be a bit foreign to new people, and- after the overhaul- even to those once familiar, so Slate's going to do his best to walk you through the ins and outs of Ikplets.


There are three main ways to acquire Ikplets if you haven't got any already: From batches, the pound, and customs.
As they're the more common and the easiest to jump into, we'll start with batches.

Batch Ikplets are given away in raffles. While there is an element of randomness to it, you can increase your odds by adding additional fields, like personality and history. You can find details on what qualifies for additional entries in the batches section, which you can navigate to using the navigation bar above, found in all sections.
On or after the end date of the batch, a winner will be drawn for each Ikplet. When someone acquires an Ikplet, it's added to their archive post, which can be found by navigating to the archive and clicking on their username.
You may notice that every person has numbers beside their username. For an example, "Slate | 9/30 - 5/7". /30 is the number of non-custom Ikplets the person has, while /7 is their number of customs.

Pound Ikplets can be gotten from the pound FCFS (First Come First Served.) This method is more unreliable as, well, there has to be Ikplets in the pound for you to get them from there. Pound Ikplets don't always count to the same limit: Which limit it'll go to can be easily determined by looking at the Ikplet's notes. If 'Custom' is noted there, the Ikplet will go to /7. If not, it'll go to /30.

Customs must be bought using the Ikplets currency, credits (). You can send a trade to Slate to convert your ChickenSmoothie pets to credits- find the conversion rate by navigating to the shop. Your credits will be recorded in the bank, which is linked in the archive post. Once you have some credits, browse the shop and use the item purchase form to buy a ticket. You can then navigate to the customs section to redeem the ticket. The forms in the customs section may seem a bit overwhelming at first.
Form 1 you must use, always, when redeeming a ticket. Which version of form 2 you pick depends on the color of your ticket, with more expensive ones allowing more in-depth customization and even accessories while the cheaper ones are limited to a color palette and the artist's imagination.
Before you redeem a ticket though, make sure to check the front page ('Ikplets' in the navigation bar) and see if customs are open under services. If they aren't, you can not redeem your ticket. However, this doesn't necessarily mean it can't still be made.
If customs are closed, Ikplets staff won't make your custom, but you can still ask non-staff to, or even make it yourself- following the restrictions, of course. If you navigate to the activities, you can find downloads for the official Ikplets linearts- make sure you understand the rules under them though! Once your custom is finished, you'll have to send it's image and it's filled form to Slate or Madison via PM.

That covers the methods to acquiring one's first Ikplet. Once you own at least one fertile Ikplet though, you can then breed it. Ikplets have a limited number of safe breeding slots- this depends on their variety and sex, you can find a list of these in the breeding section.

Breeding is done by Slate raffling off nests, so be on the lookout for breeding raffles- they tend to only be open for a few days at a time! On the end date, a certain number of winners will be drawn- no less than 3- and the Ikplets they entered with will be bred. There are an abundance of items in the shop that affect breeding, though, such as the lucky dice and phalutrin. The effects of these items can be surmised from their shop descriptions, but these items must be bought or used in the same form as your breeding raffle entry- the action will only be carried out if you actually win a nest.

Breeding has some intricacies to it, which you can ignore or pay attention to- it's up to you. If you navigate to the breeding section, already you'll see some odds to the lower right- these are the effects of inbreeding, and where your Ikplet's lineage comes into play (if it isn't a batch Ikplet, anyway. Batch Ikplets will have no chance of inbreeding, as their lineage all says unknown.) More odds appear if you navigate to the mutations section, but as said previously you aren't required to look into this. You may notice the odds are oddly formatted, being for example 5/200: what they mean is that, when rolled, any number between 1 and 5 will be positive. Lucky dice increase this range, so to use a red lucky dice would mean that any number between 1 and 120 is positive.
When it comes to breeding, something else you should note is breeders. You can find a list of breeders in the breeding section. When entering a nest raffle, you can pair your Ikplet with any breeder's Ikplet as long as the last time they were bred wasn't within 10 days ago.

In addition to these methods, you may also sometimes see store Ikplets in, well, the store. These come at a price, and can be purchased FCFS. Store Ikplets will be counted as batch Ikplets, and go to your /30 limit.

Finally, there's roleplaying, drawing, and writing about your Ikplet/s. While the thread does assume a realistic setting, this is just a 'default' of sorts. Go nuts with it if you like! Give 'em powers, make 'em anthro, construct a medieval hierarchy for your kingdom of mask-wearing fluffy hoofed things- these are just as valid in batch entries or any other writing requirement.

Batches (Artists)

Artists may make as many batches as they please, sized between 3 and 5 except for special ones permitted by Slate. If an artist is found to be biased they will lose the right to draw their own winners.
These batches must consist of hybrids, however artists may make one batch wildblood for every 8 batch hybrids they make. This does stack: So an artist could make 16 hybrids in a row, then be able to make two batch wildbloods.
To post a batch, fill the batch template for every Ikplet and PM everything to Slate. You must record the colors for the hair, body, and markings, and list them appropriately (example: Hair Streaks ▊)
Batch Ikplets must have the same mask design, but they can be mixed variety. Make sure that the mask design color is the same as the iris. If it's invisible against the mask's base color, you can use the sclera color instead.
You may put one mutation (no bobbed) on a batch Ikplet per 10 normal ones. This does not stack.

Customs (Custom Artists)

Custom artists are to quote custom forms to claim them (they are free to snip it down a bit though if it's long: the first form, at minimum, should be intact.) This is the exception to the 'don't quote forms' rule, as we do want this to show up in the search, so other custom artists can see what forms have already been claimed.
Custom artists must be capable of making large lineart edits, such as wings and clothes, in a way that somewhat matches or blends with the Ikplets lineart style. Custom artists can combine skills to help each other, say if one can't draw clothes but another can, they can draw the clothes and send it back to the original custom artist.
When complete, PM the image to Slate. If there are lots of large accessories that obstruct too much or important parts of the Ikplet, such as clothing or eye covers, include a version with no edits.

Litters (Nest Artists)

Nest artists do breedings, which is a more involved process than the others. Nest artists will post to claim a nest, and they'll be listed as the one breeding it. Nest artists should be capable of common lineart edits, such as tufts and hair. A nest artist could get the assistance of a custom artist.
Breeding requires use of random.org, and it's encouraged you use wordpad or some similar text program to keep track of things. First, paste this into your text program of choice (key: 1p = one parent has it, 2p = both parents have it, nwb = northern wildblood involved but otherwise neither parent has it):

Record in some way what is and isn't happening. You could write "no, no, yes" or "165, 198, 3," do whichever works for you.

Depending on the pair (hybrid+hybrid, hybrid+wildblood, or wildblood+wildblood) you'll generate a number between 3-5, 2-4, or 1-3, respectively. The number given is the size of the litter. If a fertility treatment is used, skip this step; it will be the highest number.
If there are two varieties involved, roll 0 to the litter size (e.g. 0-3.) The number provided is how many of one variety there will be, but which one variety will be up to you. If the pair is a hybrid+wildblood, roll 1/20 on each whelp to determine if one is a wildblood.

Next you will roll the litter for Chimerism. Without the use of Phalutrin, this mutation rolls a unique way compared to the others. If Phalutrin is involved or there is only one whelp, chimerism doesn't need to be rolled for. In the case of the former, there will automatically be one chimera.
How many times you roll chimerism will depend on the size of the litter. 1 time for 2-3 whelps, 2 times for 4-5 whelps.
To make a chimera, you must design two whelps, then layer one on top of the other and erase portions of it, like this. Both whelps' marking/color information must still be recorded, separately, like this.

Next you will roll for albinism, melanism, and erythrism. Each of these must be rolled once on each whelp (so if there were 3 whelps, you would have to roll albinism, melanism, and erythrism 3 times each.)

You probably get the gist by now, the rest of the mutations work similarly to albinism/etc. in that they're rolled for each whelp. If the pair you're breeding involves a northern wildblood, you will also roll a 1/20 on each whelp to decide if they get tufts.

Once the text is filled out, you're ready to get making.
To decide markings, set random.org to 0-1 or 1-2 or any one-number difference, and establish which one will be negative and which one positive. I usually use 1-2, with 1 negative and 2 positive, so examples will be using that as well.
On each marking, roll 1-2. If the marking gets a 1, the marking will not be on the whelp. If it gets a 2, it will be. When this is done, you'll have the markings of your first whelp.
When deciding color, there is no set system. As long as the colors on the whelp overall look reasonably mixed, it's acceptable. I tend to set colors on top of each other on different layers and change the opacity, but you can make your own way of doing it, such as random.org-ing to get a certain percentage. You can pick from either parent's eye color for the whelp's eye color(s).

Finally comes the mask. The whole litter will use the same mask design. Mask designs must match the iris color, except where the design would be invisible on the mask's base color. In this case, you may either change the base color or use the sclera color.
The steps to designing a mask can't be explained other than 'mix them.' Take bits and pieces of each mask's design and mash them together in a way that looks somewhat appealing. The same applies to the teeth designs, but these take less care.

Once these are done, fill out the batch template for each whelp and PM the litter to Slate. It's very appreciated, but not required, that you fill out the lineage. You may leave the code field empty, remove it, or put a bad pun there: it doesn't matter.

Inbreeding
Inbred Ikplets have different rolls. You can find these listed in the breeding section. If a whelp is rolled as stillborn, the litter will have one less whelp. Make sure that when you fill out the template you add any health defects to the notes.

Lucky Dice
Lucky dice modify rolls, adding to certain chances. If lucky dice have been used on a nest, how many, which color, and what they were rolled on will be listed in it. For example, say someone used one red lucky dice on albinism and the litter is of 3 whelps. Two albinism rolls will be 1/1200 where 1-5 = albinism, but one will be 1/1200 where 1-120 = albinism.

Outside of Nest Raffles
Nest artists, if they wish, can accept breeding requests outside of official nest raffles, but this should not take over their life (such as ignoring officially raffled nests in favor of doing a friend's.)
