The White River Herd

The White River Herd - led by the noble and wise Etiènne Navarre and his mate Silan - got its name by the big and wild river that frames the east of their territory. All members of this herd have one thing in common: They are usually friendly and virtuous equids. Light coats are commonly seen but a bright heart is much more important.

Coat: Silver bukskin

Background:
Silan lost her herd after a snow storm.
The young mare was divided from her relatives during the storm and she didn't find the way back to them. After wandering around a long time she found something like a new home. It took a while until she accepted that new home, especially as she felt very lonely during the first month. She wandered around, silent and lost. After several weeks she started to befriend with the animals of her new home. She felt better although she was still looking for other equids. Time passed by until a bright stallion crossed her path.

Character:
Silan was once a playful mare. But after she lost her herd she got more calm and a bit quiet. She's a bit silent and careful.
When she meets other equids she tends to be as kind as possible. Don't get her wrong, Silan can still be palyfull and she is really happy. She just became a bit more mature during her journey.

Favourite treat: Wild strawberries.

Background:
Etiènne always was a confident stallion. He had lot of friends, a loving family, his life was rather carefree. But the older he got the more he felt that something was missing. He decided to leave his herd and started his search for the missing part of his heart.
It was a long journey but finally he found what he was searching for when he crossed Silans path.

Character:
Etiènne is a self confident an calm stallion. He is a born leader who always tries to be fair. Sometimes he shares a weakness of many other leaders - he is a bit proud.
Additionally he can be quite protective, sometimes maybe a bit too much.

Favourite treat: Green grapes.

Please notice Etiènne is Silans mate. He won't breed with other mares.

Background:
Aguares learned a lot from his mother. Especially her sharp tongue and her behavior to other equids were impressive for him when he was young boy.

Character:
Two traits are dominant in Aguares, his dark side and some natural kind of leadership. He is a dominant equid who leads the others around him. Or better to say those who are below him. Because Aguares often treats them like he is somehow more privileged. Of course those who are much stronger than him get all of his respect. At least as long as he is in a weaker position.
He has a dark side which is quite strong. Fairplay is nothing important for him and he really hates it to loose. Additionally he rarely trusts in other equids. Who guarantees that they won't betray him, just to reach their own goals? He might do that and it would be greenly to think others won't act like that. No wonder that the most important equid in his live is just himself.
According to his dominance, his privileged being and his dark side he sometimes frightens other equids, especially those who are younger or weaker. He acts and behaves like a dark prince with more power than enough (although he doesn't have this power).

Coat: Wild bay pangare splash

Background:
Kashmir has always been attached by wilderness and adventures. Her mother always worried about her long trips but Kashmir didn't care. There was no reason for her to stay at a save home while there was so much to explore out there. When the wild mare grew up she decided not to stay with her family and went on a long journey instead. On this journey she met Silan and Etiènne and finally stayed with the small White River Herd.

Character:
Kashmir is a beautiful mare with a smooth voice and silky fur. She is gentle (most of the time) and loves her silky coat. But she is no fragile lady. In fact she has a high temper and can be rather fightive. Some other equids compare her to a tiger, smooth and beautiful on the one hand but wild and strong on the other. You better don't underestimate her.

Favourite treat: Fenberries.

Meaning of his name: Gharib means foreigner but traveler as well

Background:
Gharib has always been curious. As a foal he was interested in many different things. When he grew up he realized that foreign cultures, other equids and their herd practices are most fascinating. Masks of all kinds attach him as well. Therefore he left his family and started to explore the world. But soon he reached his limits. That was really frustrating for him. One day he discovered that bipeds might have more possibilities to travel and to explore. They were the solution for his problem. It was an easy decision to join them and suddenly his world became much bigger. Not only that he found a biped to travel with, they even did a lot of attaching accessoiries and other equipment for equids. Gharib learned that different bipeds of different cultures did a huge variety of stuff for their equids. Soon he started to collect those things as souvenirs of his journeys. His chosen biped even carries them home for him. Of course they wanted something in return. Therefore Gharib participates in equid shows or competitions. They are not always fun but quite often. And they are a great chance to get known to other equids, too.


Character:
As mentioned above, Gharib is curious, especially for foreign equids and their cultures. He loves to travel and to discover the world. Due to his journeys he is very often in the position of a foreigner. Many of his contacts are loose. But he doesn't care about it as long as he isn't excluded from them. Being a foreigner just means that there are many chances to find new friends.

He is a friendly stallion and loves to listen to others. Although he is rather curious he tries to be respectful and avoids it to bother others with his thirst for knowledge. But he is no passive listener, for his interests he would even go through adventures and maybe dangerous situations. Especially for an exciting mask, he would do a lot.

Sometimes he can be a bit headstrong or even stubborn. Obviously that is not always a good trait for an adventurous stallion.

Although Gharib is a positive equid he sometimes feels a bit depressed and lonely. He would love to find a special someone, a mare, a partner, to be on his side. But this equid would have to share his passions because he doesn't want to give up his current life. Fortunately those lonely moments don't appear too often.


About:
Gharib means foreigner or traveler. The name says it all. He loves to travel and to explore foreign landscapes and cultures. Other equids and their herd practices are fascinating for him.

On his journeys he learned that bipeds (he always calls humans like that) of different cultures create different things for their horses and even for equids, too. Those different and often colourful things amazed him and he started to collect them as souvenirs. From time to time Gharib wears those accessories, just because he loves them.

Gharib lately joined one of the bipeds because he saw that he could reach even more places on their side. And a biped has some great possibilities to carry his souvenirs home.

Another fascinating thing are masks. Somehow Gharib feels they are more than just human stuff. Some of them are filled with a hint of magic. The stallion is committed to feel this magic when le looks at them. It's a strange feeling, a mix of excitement, a slight gooseflesh and the mood the mask shows itself. Gharib often spends some time just with staring at them.

Of course the journeys with his biped are not just for fun. They require that he participates in some equid shows or competitions. But that's ok for him because they make sure that he really meets foreign equids. Although he is not the best equid for competitions Gharib tries his best and sometimes they are even fun.

During all those journeys and new loose contacts he sometimes feels a bit lonely. But until now Gharib hasn't found a friend who shares his passion for exploring. Although he would really appreciate a friend this thought frightens him a little bit. This friend really has to share his passions because he fears a decision between a friend and his beloved journeys.

Funny fact: Although Gharib spends a lot of time with masks he never recognized that his face looks a bit like a mask, too. Only after one of his loose contacts told him about it, he saw that his face markings look a bit like one.


Favourite treat: Still has to be discovered. There are just too many things from different countries he has to try.

Story:
The square behind the buildings was hot and dusty. A huge herd of bipeds surrounded the place. Their voices mixed up with the screams of the swallows above him. It was exiting, maybe even a little bit frightening but Gharib enjoyed this scenery. He twisted his ears and raised his head to get as many impressions as possible.

A hand full of other equids walked over this dusty square, too. Each of them had a biped on their side. Most of them seemed to be a bit scarred by all the trouble around them. When he looked at them Gharib already looked forward to meet them after the show. He was sure there were some interesting characters with stories from different regions among them.

The biped next to him mumbled something he couldn't understand. But it sounded somehow depressant. Gharib snorted. There was no need for calming words. This scenery was amazing. If he was honest he didn't even want to enter the buildings for that strange kind of competition while there was so much to discover around. But it was his decision to travel with his biped because together they were able to go to places whereof Gharib dreamed at night.

Gharibs gaze wandered over the crowd of bipeds. Suddenly he spotted a small gab which revealed the tent like buildings behind all those viewers. One of them was full of equid and horse stuff. Immediately Gharib stopped moving and turned towards it. What he saw took his full attention - at least for a moment. His biped made a strange voice with a long "ooooh", which sounded a little bit annoyed. Gharib looked at the equid equipment. It looked really interesting. There were colourful fabrics with many funny patterns. They looked a bit like masks. Masks! They were one of his greatest passions. Gharib loved masks! They were fascinating and each one seemed to tell an own story. Those masks seemed to be specially made for equids. Once he had seen one of them, worn by an equid who participated in reces. But he never got the chance to get one of those racing masks. His biped called him by name and pulled the rope of his halter. No chance. Gharib neighed exited and stiffed his neck. He wasn't tall but strong. And maybe a bit headstrong, too. His biped tried their best but after a short fight, they gave in. Again they said something he wasn't able to undrestand. It sounded yielding and therefore Gharib knew he won.

His biped led him off the square, sighing but smiling, too. Together they went to this strange tent with all the masks. Gharib was really excited, now. He rubbernecked all those masks, took a closer look at one, sniffed on the next. Finally he found the one he liked best. It was made of a soft and beautiful green fabric with golden seams. And somehow it smelled of adventure. His biped accepted their fate and bought the racing mask for Gharib. The stallion lowered his head and waited patiently and persistent until they put him the mask on. Again the biped said something strange but finally they returned to the other equids. Gharib was rather proud about his victory. Too proud to care about the other equids reactions. Now he was ready for action.
