Current Season: Spring

A distinct scent of ‘little animal’ fills your nose when you approach. At first you think it’s prey, but then the things in these woods have a tendency to be less than edible if you don’t know what you’re doing. So then, what could it be?

You lock eyes with The Assistant, who is… oh stars. A little giggle escapes you before you get the chance to stop it. Snuggled up next to them is a large white rat and a colorful kingfisher, huddling for warmth.

“Yes, yes, laugh it up,” The Assistant grumbles, though you notice they pull the rat a little closer. “With Helios refusing to come back, Persephone asked me to help keep her little companions warm. Not that it makes my job here harder, not at all… Anyways, here’s her questions for you.”

Spring is when the world, well, springs back to life! Birds lay their eggs, flowers bloom, and even better new kits are often born. How does your clan handle the new abundance? Are they the sort to throw big parties or give solemn thanks before moving on with their lives? Do they like to use flowers as decoration or as a piece of a ritual? If they don’t have a seasonal celebration, do they have one for kits that are born?

Prompt || Spring is a double-edged sword for the Heart of Decay cats, actually. The weather is beautiful, the prey is plentiful, and the river finally unthaws. However, that water source is immediately snuffed out by one source; flooding.

During the Spring, the Heart of Decay experiences an immense amount of rings. Spring showers are more like spring storms. In fact, the wind sometimes gets so bad that cats are encouraged to stay away from trees [which have branches falling off of them] and instead shelter in caves or lay down in the open. The campsite is actually evacuated during the last two weeks of Winter, with all belongings being brought up to the top of the cliffside and put into make shift dens like tents, etc.

However, Spring is actually a time that the clan does embrace - being forced away from their camp gives them much more time to gather resources and help other clans! Arguably the most important season to them, they spend the bulk of it hunting, and donating supplies to nearby clans that may of had rougher Winters. It is a season of recovery for clans that experienced trials, and one where cats don't have to stress about food. The only issue is water, but with the spring showers, they just scatter buckets around and those typically suffice.

Spring is also important for the clan because this is when the clan's farmer, Kit, can get back to work! The clan normally polishes off the supply of crops she has spent moons growing during the winter, and she immediately replants all the seeds she can once Winter falls asleep for the year. The cats actually take the first couple days of Spring to help Kit plow her fields and water her crops, until she can manage them alone.

Baby doesn't stay with the clan during the Spring; not when there's a chance of horrible wind and storms. She instead makes her home in a secret save, which stores a good chunk of her prank supplies. The cave is lined with torches to keep it lit up always.

the spring of the still waters is one of the most treasured times of the year. well… ish. during the spring, most vegetation, like the large trees and tall grasses, thrive. this is due to the high water content that occurs during this season. although the rain is excellent for the flora, the fauna often suffers due to the increased amount of rain. this is due to the fact that the rain is not regular rain, but acid rain. it is a strange, unnatural, turquoise color, leaving thick black clouds painting the skies, as it falls. it burns right through wooden structures and buildings easily, leaving a severe amount of damage in its wake. not to mention, that the citizens of the still waters are also prone to being wounded by its scalding touch. although there is acid rain during other seasons, the spring is the time where acid rain falls the most.

after the short period of acid rain, the flora seems to grow at exponential rates– some suspecting it is due to the chemicals that are found in the acid of the rain. some call the acid rain blessings, but others view them as cursed. usually, it depends on ones' experience or past with the rain. certain groups or families of cats tend to have the same view. during the spring, gardening and cooking businesses thrive because of the increased growth rate of the flora, leading to less starvation in the land and lifted spirits. it is tradition that kittens will weave small flower crowns for their family members as a way to celebrate the season of spring.

Spring, the time of the arrival of new life as well as the blooming of flowers! Otherwise known as the bloom-flower season. Yes, this season is a great time to celebrate! With the sweet release of chill-wind's cruel claws, what's not to enjoy? Besides my constant allergies rising and the rain, it's my favorite season!

To know about how some cats enjoy a bloom-flower festival, let's go to Greenery Park! As I spent my time in their home, I was shown their ways of celebration. These cats not only gather as much food as possible, but they plant as many seeds as they can! The boss of the greenery park said that planting their flowers and plants will not only make the park more beautiful, but it'll freshen the atmosphere as well!

I can't help but agree. The air was very breathable compared to the city outside the park. Luckily enough, they don;t only plant seeds in their park, but around some parts of the city too. Take that as an act of generosity. These cats keep this run down city alive with their widespreading plants.

The festival is full to the brim with weaved, decorative flowers as well as lots of food! Before eating, we are allowed to make floral accessories to wear for the festival. They sing, dance, and act as entertainment as we feast.They’d sing the joys of the new life that has been born and the sprouting buds that’ll soon grow into wonderful flora. Some tell joyful promises of their future, some told old mythologies of Bloom defeating the dreaded Chill, or just plan happy things!

Something interesting the boss had shared as well was “the budding of a new life”. Rebirth if you will. When bloom-flower comes around, they “shred” their old lives and start over again. Whether from a difficult last season, or a new goal they have.

Again, the seasons don’t work that way in Lost World Tribe, since it has a climate quite different from the generic European and American continental ones.

Spring usually begins with the clouds reaching their highest altitude and dropping a bit of snow on the peaks—the first and usually only snows of the year. These are followed by a series of torrential rains that turn their territory (primarily an immense ravine) into a terribly dangerous place, so they spend the spring at higher altitudes, away from the camp in the mountains, above where the rain clouds reach.

They don’t usually celebrate much at this time; rather, they survive on the reserves they gathered during autumn and winter, and they don’t venture out much to hunt or explore, trying to stay above the sea of clouds. So they spend more time together, and although they don’t hold celebrations as such, they can devote more time to playing, interning, training, group activities, and competitions.

They often hold small competitions to entertain themselves and pass the time, pitting cats against beasts in pairs—each cat with their companion—sometimes in races, training bouts, or strategy games. (Even some kittens once invented something like DnD, and most of the clan still plays it every spring).

In this case... Kits aren’t usually born in the clan; cats tend to arrive from outside the island, and the few births that do occur are usually in the summer, so they don’t have much to celebrate around this in spring.

Oh! And the end of spring is the worst part: as soon as the weather starts to calm down, explorers and guardians head back to camp to make sure it’s safe. They’ve already lost cats in unexpected flash floods. Then they go find the crafter-cats and help them repair whatever the rains have destroyed. And when the camp is habitable again, the rest of the clan—healers, handlers, young and old—finally come down with the remaining creatures and return to life in their main camp.
