im trying to make it tiny or at least small wip

family relations

their origin and biological parents are unknown, cauis is their adoptive father. cauis is very protective and close to his kit, he
would never let harm come to her. kaida feels very close to her father, she respects him deeply and wants to be like him
when she grows up. although they are very close they harbor different opinions on most topics, they often argue over silly things.
she fears abandonment, she doesn't want to be ditched by cauis as her biological parents did to her.

why are they unique

kaida is able to use magic with their rose branch wand. the wand is about five or six inches long, its made from rose bush branches and its been burnt badly. each time they use their magic, a bit of ashes erupts from the end of the wand. their unable to stop this minor eruption but it doesn't really bother them, although it bothers cauis, cauis makes kaida clean up after their mess whenever they perform inside their home.

burnt roses - fire magic

-they're able to create fire on the tip of their wand
-its abilities and power are unknown, they don't like to play with fire
-can be used as a light and can light objects on fire
-to put the flame out, shake the wand twice
-theres only one down side, it sputters ash as you start and end the spell
-results in a huge ashy mess

?? spell - food magic

-nobody knows how it works
-magically makes any food taste better, doesn't work on rotten/expired stuff
-food cooks faster and turns out really pretty too!
-after using the spell you have to turn the wand away from the food immediately or it'll become covered in ashes

infinite sight - ancient magic

-very unusual spell to know, learned it by themself
-it allows the magic user to spy on anyone they please
-acts sorta like a crystal ball allowing them to see anything
-theres no downside to this, no ashes are produced
-this spell is very odd?? stay away from those whom know it

magic tricks?

-they HATE magic tricks (fake magicians, card tricks, etc)

-absolutely disgusted by fake magic
-sees it as a disgrace to the magic community

-dislikes anybody who puts on magic shows (especially for kids)

-why teach or show the kids fake stuff??? theres no point in it
-hates the people who put on the shows

hobbies

apart from magic, kaida has picked up gardening and baking. they often like to 'cheat' and use their magic to complete their hobbies for themself. kaida isn't good at either of the two activities without their magic unless they're helped by another.

outside their tiny house, kaida has a beautiful giant garden. its inhabitants gently sway in the wind as they wait quietly for their caretaker to return. the garden is overflowing with gorgeous roses, they glimmer as the sunlight kisses each and every one of them. but beneath their bushes and in the soil remains the ashes of the last batch of flowers that had stood in their place. a long time ago, kaida had a magical accident and lit all the roses on fire. as soon as everything caught ablaze they dropped their wand and ran for cauis to get help. the flowers screamed and fell as they burnt, the wand laid on the ground watching as they all faded to ash. the wand had retained no harm. kaida doesn't like to talk about the rose incident. it discourages them to use magic

their cooking is horrid. you can't digest the monstrosities they create, each one is worse than the one that was made before it. kaida can only make edible food when cooking with magic or tobin, without either of these sources their food is almost toxic.

-kaida likes going to movies with her dad and/or with tobin’s family

possible character development idea

-grows up, unhappy with self and unable to go to college

-has always seen herself as being different due to her shine and coloring

-doesn't hate cauis for being unable to afford it, hes upset she can't get a better education

-she's tried getting scholarships, no luck
-she appreciates how hard he tries for her

-cant find a good job/turned down

-they don't like magic so they don't like her
-theres not too many open jobs in her town

-she eventually leaves her hometown in hope for a new life and job

-she still can't find a job, shes heartbroken
-kaida tried so hard but it didn't get her anywhere

-is offered a job by a stranger, this gets her hopes up

-they want her to assassin someone
-they say its for a better cause, she genuinely believes it
-carries through with the job, comes to a realization of what she did
-kaida feels bad but she really needs the money

-becomes an assassin, disappears off the grid

-she cries each time she carries out her job
-always feel guilty, knows she is a bad person

-eventually finds a girlfriend

-she's really sweet, knows about her job
-her gf once hired her before they met face to face
-she lets kaida vent to her, they're always there for each other
-its a very sweet healthy relationship, no toxicity

why do i like this kalon?

i like them because their design is complicated and fun/hard to draw. it gets boring repeatedly drawing simplistic characters but?? drawing them really is a challenge. i think my favorite part about them is their tail coloring. the top of the tail fades from a burnt brown to fiery red color, specks of orange are scattered in the ashy parts of the tail.the tip sprouts from a molten orange to a brown tuft of hair, in the mop lies a couple of pale strands. apart from the tail i love their shine and hair, the odd shape of the shine and the light brown stripes make them p unique. i love them a lot lol

Personality:
Moriah, young as she is, is a fiesty and old soul. She doesn't consider herself extraordinary (no matter how many times her adoptive father, Octavian, tells her she is) and lives by the rule of "if I can dream it, I can do it, and I will". Once she's set on something, she'll do everything in her power to finish what she's started. This has led to many, many ridiculously complicated school projects, most of which were made with help from Dad and ended up being taller than Moriah. Touching again on her refusal to call herself special, Octavian believes that she does this because she doesn't want to be special or the center of attention. Moriah hasn't confirmed nor denied this, though she does like the air of mystery surrounding herself because of it.

history:

Born to parents who lived on the streets, Moriah started out with a less than perfect hand in life. After the first two years of her life and desperate attempts by her parents to get off the streets, Moriah was placed into foster care. Her parents gave her up because they wanted better for her, but the decision was still extremely difficult for them, as they loved their daughter very much. The kit was often admired by families and caretakers whom she ended up with, but each time, she eventually grew frazzled and rebellious to the point of being too much. Each time she was sent away worsened her behavior in the next home as she believed she was unwanted. Eventually, she began seeing a counsellor, but the kit still remained closed-off.

At age 9, Moriah was placed into the care of Octavian. The older kalon intimidated her a lot; he was larger than the average kalon, his fur was thick, and he was decorated with scars and tattoos. The most odd thing about him, though, was that he was just as quiet as Moriah was. Most families that Moriah had stayed with were annoyingly positive and always trying to get her to come to the park with them. Octavian, though, was a single adult, and so when he left, he had Moriah come with him only because she was too young to stay home alone. He let her pick out a snack each time they went grocery shopping, because he always ended up buying himself Chex Mix, and he thought it only fair that Moriah get a treat too. She usually chose a bag of dried fruit chips and thanked him quietly.

It took Moriah a long time to settle in with Octavian. Honestly, despite Octavian's oddities and quietness, his home was the longest Moriah had stayed in one place, so far having lived quietly with him for 14 months. The time had passed fairly quickly, too. The kit had spent a whole school year at one school for the first time in a while, and she managed to befriend a couple of other girls who were quirky as well, though not quite as odd as her. The first was Maisey, daughter of a model and adventurer who was extremely friendly. Moriah honestly didn't have much choice in the matter of their friendship; Maisey had already declared her a pal. She was then introduced to Maisey's best friend, a little kit named Penny. Penny was much calmer, and Moriah liked that she could sit quietly and read with Penny for as long as the two pleased.

The summer after Moriah's school year with Octavian, he introduced the idea of their first trip. Other families had wanted to open with trips and vacations, and Moriah considered those attempts to buy her affection. But the fact that Octavian waited so long and he wanted HER to decide what to do made her feel like this could be genuine. Maybe. She still didn't feel like she would stay forever with Octavian, and she was trying not to get too attached to her current foster dad. But she went along with the trip idea and chose their destination.

The two traveled to the coast. Moriah had never been to the beach. She had refused to go with other families, but deep down she did want to know what it was like. The wind, the water, the people, the shops. Octavian got her a new swimsuit, and hilariously, the two ended up with similar suits. Black swimsuit shorts and colorful surf tops. Octavian, when asked why he chose to have a shirt, mumbled about his scars. Moriah accepted the answer, though she wanted to know more.

The drive was long, and Octavian still wouldn't let Moriah sit in the front seat, but he did let her choose what games they played on the drive. They had to leave early in the morning so they would arrive in time to spend all day exploring. The drive took a few hours, and they had breakfast on the road. They arrived a bit before lunch, and headed first to the shops. They hadn't brought beach things. Octavian wanted to save room in the car and also secretly wanted to let Moriah pick out fun beach toys and trinkets at the beach itself. After shopping it was lunch. Then beach time.

The pair got changed and headed into the ocean, which was gorgeously blue and the perfect temperature. Moriah immediately took to the water, swimming up to the small waves and riding them back in while Octavian watched closely or swam next to her. About an hour into their fun, Moriah was getting tired, but still wanted to do one last wave ride. Octavian stood chest-deep in the water and watched. And watched. And... panicked. Moriah had vanished from where he last saw her. "Moriah!" he bellowed, grabbing the attention of others nearby, "Moriah!"

"Tav!"

Octavian heard a little voice much farther out to sea than he expected. Moriah always called him 'Octavian', too, and the shortened version clued him in on her desperation. He cursed quietly, heading out against the waves. "Moriah, keep talking!"

"I'm here! Tav, I'm- help me!" The kit's voice was scared, something Octavian hadn't heard in her voice before either. His ears swiveled above water as he swam out farther, listening.

"Left!" A voice back at the beach called to him, alerting him that someone had seen Moriah. "Left!" Octavian veered, soon spotting his little girl.

"I'm here, Moriah, I'm here," he assured her. He got her to grab onto his back, holding her head above water as he headed back to shore. She coughed and wheezed, still overwhelmed. Octavian felt the water shifting under them, alerting him to a coming wave. "One last wave ride, kid, hold on tight to me and hold your breath." Moriah nodded and obeyed, squeezing her guardian tightly as the water lifted them and threw them closer to the sand. Briefly, the pair were caught underwater, but Octavian kept his orientation, navigating back above water and finally being able to put his paws on sand. When he reached the shallows, he pried Moriah from his back and set her down. A couple who had seen what happened brought them towels. Octavian pointed to their bags a little ways away, requesting that someone bring him the smaller one, Moriah's. When one of the kals from the couple returned with it, Octavian quickly rummaged through and pulled out Moriah's stuffed elephant. The little kit whimpered and grabbed it quickly, hugging it tightly. She had hidden it there while packing with no idea that Octavian knew of it. But he had known, and he had known it would comfort her. She forgot her fear, suddenly overwhelmed with gratitude and love. She thought now that this was someone she could stay with.

She tucked her elephant under one arm and hugged Octavian tightly, burying her face in his shoulder and feeling, for the first time in ages, at home.

relationships:

- Octavian: father. Very proud of her big, spooky dad. She knows he's a gentle giant and she knows exactly how to cheer him up. She'll occasionally pester him about his past so she can learn more about his scars and tats, though he only tells her a little bit at a time. He's not sure she's ready to know everything about his military experience, no matter how many times she tells him she is.
- Maisey: friend and crush. The first kit to unconditionally pal around with Moriah. The brighter colored kit is fascinated by Moriah's ombre in her shine, and her mane-like fur. She never found Moriah's loner disposition or quick attitude bothersome. The two are usually found together, either getting into trouble or tiring each other out by playing any game that comes to mind.
- Matteo: role model. Calls him Uncle Matt, despite the fact that he is only related to Maisey. She's very inspired by his confidence and his style. He's not afraid to break gender stereotypes, which is one of Moriah's favorite things about him. She feels trapped when her interests/style are not traditionally "girly", as she had to hide her interests from former homes in order to avoid being made fun of or discouraged. She also likes being taught new dance moves by him, and when combined with Maisey, the two tire him out very fast.
- Penny: friend. Penny is the least exhausting person that Moriah knows, and even though the two don't hang out a lot 1x1, Moriah considers her a close friend. The munchkin kit doesn't question the odd things Moriah says or does, and the two usually read together while Maisey pesters them to play more.

tidbits:

- Moriah wears a sea onyx bracelet.
- she maintains a sand garden, much to others' surprise. She finds the task soothing and the finished products beautiful.
- while most art talents usually come as package deals, Moriah's passion lies with reading and writing. She has little to no interest in drawing or other art forms.
- her favorite animal (after her all-time favorite - the elephant) is a chameleon, and she has been asking Octavian for one for ages. He seems dismissive, but her birthday is coming up...
- Moriah is left-handed (left-pawed?) and often mirror's Octavian's actions at the table just for fun.
- Moriah's elephant was given to her by her birth parents, and she has vague memories of them making it dance for her.
- being slightly superstitious, Moriah wonders if Octavian is her guardian by fate. Both kalons' shines resemble eyes, an unusual similarity for non-blood-related kals.
- despite the accident in the ocean's tide, Moriah still adores swimming and the beach.
- Moriah is a proportionally big kit. While not necessarily bulky or heavy, she is larger than at least both Maisey and Penny.
- her favorite colors are shades of browns/tans. When choosing game piece colors she always chooses yellow, since that's as close as she can get.
- Moriah’s favorite genres are sci-fi and fantasy. Her favorite series are Star Wars, most superhero stories (Spider-Man and Green Lantern especially), and Harry Potter.
- she’s one of those kits who loves Buzzfeed Unsolved.
