Guilla blinked slowly, eyes adjusting to the new light before them. They waddled over to the discarded rock and lifted it from its dredged-up path of sand. Carefully they dusted it off, cradling it in their claws, just as Veridas had done to them when they emerged from the soil. City grub... Guilla supposed they were sort of from the city, but they weren't a grub like their other siblings.

They were about to say as such, when an imposing figure loomed over them, paws knitted together, toothy grin rivaling the lights the wermz bathed in. The newcomer leaned in, calculating eyes inspecting their rock. Their gaze made Guilla's claws tighten around the warm stone, protecting it from another smack.

“Hey, now, what’s with the face?” The shifty merchant croons. “Unlike my… Ehhhh… Stunt double over here, my momma raised me right. I got manners.”

The Fetch folds his arms and scowls. “I tho-ouu- ƃht we were business partners.”

“Yeah, yeah, business partners, that’s what I meant.” The merchant waves the other werm off with a flick of his tail. He leans in conspiratorially to Guilla, pushing up his neon shades. He opens his mouth to say something.

The merchant finally looks at Guilla, and seems to see them for the first time. He closes his mouth.

“Hey, now... Hold on a sec...” He strokes the chin of his mask. “C’mere, big wheels. Get a load of this guy.”

The Fetch scoffs at his new nickname, but he acquiesces. He sticks his paws on his hips and leans in. The two strangers look Guilla up and down.

“… Think they're here for the same thing we are.” The merchant’s ghastly grin shines in the overhead light.

“Yer darn right.” The Fetch’s snaggleteeth gleam as he pulls his lips back over his teeth.

extra: As the trio headed to the Wastelands on their previous journey, they were expecting just another day of searching around. But then!! Phoenix saw something up ahead, partially hidden among various pieces of rubble. Could it be...? Phoenix rushed forward, eyes locked on the object that had gotten their attention. Moss and Rhia followed behind curiously, wondering what had caused Phoenix to rush off like that. Gently, Phoenix moved aside the rubble to reveal... Yes! A knife! For a moment, Phoenix was sure they were dreaming. After all those days of fruitless searching, it was finally here in front of them! Phoenix reached out and carefully picked up the knife, holding it with just as much care as Moss with their statues or Rhia with her plushies. No longer did Phoenix have to use their imagination to pretend the small shards of crystal they occasionally found were knives... They now had one, a real one, of their very own! Tears of joy started filling their eyes, as Moss and Rhia congratulated them on their find. Phoenix gently wrapped their treasure in the scarf they found a while ago, and the trio headed home. Now, the group could find something new to obsessively search for! Well, they are the inanimate object obsession squad. What else would they do with their free time? (Thank you! Yay!!! They found the knife! I am so excited right now!!)

Guilla blinked slowly, eyes adjusting to the new light before them. They waddled over to the discarded rock and lifted it from its dredged-up path of sand. Carefully they dusted it off, cradling it in their claws, just as Veridas had done to them when they emerged from the soil. City grub... Guilla supposed they were sort of from the city, but they weren't a grub like their other siblings.

They were about to say as such, when an imposing figure loomed over them, paws knitted together, toothy grin rivaling the lights the wermz bathed in. The newcomer leaned in, calculating eyes inspecting their rock. Their gaze made Guilla's claws tighten around the warm stone, protecting it from another smack.

“Hey, now, what’s with the face?” The shifty merchant croons. “Unlike my… Ehhhh… Stunt double over here, my momma raised me right. I got manners.”

The Fetch folds his arms and scowls. “I tho-ouu- ƃht we were business partners.”

“Yeah, yeah, business partners, that’s what I meant.” The merchant waves the other werm off with a flick of his tail. He leans in conspiratorially to Guilla, pushing up his neon shades. He opens his mouth to say something.

The merchant finally looks at Guilla, and seems to see them for the first time. He closes his mouth.

“Hey, now... Hold on a sec...” He strokes the chin of his mask. “C’mere, big wheels. Get a load of this guy.”

The Fetch scoffs at his new nickname, but he acquiesces. He sticks his paws on his hips and leans in. The two strangers look Guilla up and down.

“… Think they're here for the same thing we are.” The merchant’s ghastly grin shines in the overhead light.

“Yer darn right.” The Fetch’s snaggleteeth gleam as he pulls his lips back over his teeth.
