The red and black goobie regarded them all, pacing around them in a circle. From time to time her battlestaff was extended as though to poke one of them, but it never touched any of them. Eventually she exhaled, and stopped in front of Grim.
"...Call me crazy but I believe you lot," she remarks, shaking her head.
"My name is Crimson. I am the protector of this cathedral. It was not always like this... not even close. But to understand the full story, there is someone that you need to meet." She gestures towards the others to follow her towards the pulpit before pausing.
"Has someone already found him? Hurry!" She calls, leading the way down. And for the one who thought to lick the goo from earlier... it tasted like dust. Well, taffy and cotton candy dust. As they go further and further down through the trap door, the group finds themselves at the entrance of a massive cellar. Crimson opened the doors to reveal... was this a nest? There were many large pillows and blankets, as though someone has tried to make a very large creature comfortable.
"Father... Father I am here. And I have brought friends. Please... look up okay? They're here to help." There was a stirring in the blankets, before a multitude of eyes turned to face the group. They were all set in a face that carried long dark hair that framed brown fur much like a beard might. The eyes were each a different color of the sky, but stained with tears. A closer look would reveal a pair of ears, both twitched down. Massive jagged teeth filled their maw, but one got the feeling if they smiled it would light the whole room.
"Who... who are you?" The Father asked, a pair of massive horns curled around his face. The goobies recognize the voice from before: this was the one who was wailing, crying.
"If my Daughter trusts you than... so do I." "Father... they want to help us. Tell them, tell them what happened here." The Father's shoulders sank a bit, as they pulled themselves upright from the blanket. He revealed gray and brown shoulders, and a massive serpent-like tail that idly twitched.
"Long ago my partner and I oversaw this cathedral. I was not always as you see me today. I prayed for strength, and was granted it. All gifts come with a cost however, and whether it was gob or gobbess or some other force that granted my wish I was bound here. A place like this, over the centuries, has accumulated power. It need an Overseer. Through it all, my partner stayed at my side. Glorious and beautiful, kind and strong, she and I looked over those who came here for so many centuries." He looked down then, a claw tracing the ground.
"...It was not to last. When the Gob and Gobbess fought, our kind was split again. You saw it. Many took their anger and sadness out here. Many came here to steal the treasures inside, the history. We both fought to protect this place... but there were so many that came that day. An organized group. And as we eventually got to a point where they fled having destroyed or taken all they could, she vowed to follow them. To make them pay and return everything. I could only watch her blue butterfly wings light the way into the forest and then... I never saw her again. I cannot leave here and my Daughter cannot follow alone... I forbid it. So here we are in this sad state today..." He finds himself crying again and sighs.
"I wished for strength but what good does it do me when I cannot leave here. Unless..." He pauses.
"I wonder... can I lend you all my strength perhaps? A gift? I can try if... if... though it might manifest different for each of you..." "We know we ask a lot of you, but perhaps together we can find my Mother. Or, at least, find out what happened to her..."* * * * *
Your goobie has met The Father and heard what happened... what will they do now? Will they help? Find a way to break Father free from the cathedral so he can come to? Stay behind because that's a LOT to ask for and keep him company? Find more help or accept the strange gift offered?
