Vela is a bit of an oddball in that they prefer quiet and solitude. Even if a Sluggum doesn’t exactly enjoy a lot of noise, they enjoy company, or if they don’t enjoy company, they enjoy noise. For Vela, they prefer neither, which makes them a little strange. Thankfully Sluggums are generally friendly, anyway, so they don't mind!

Mirfak enjoys fighting, combat, and learning about all sorts of related topics. It thinks highly of warriors and soldiers and knights. Except Sluggums are a generally peaceful species and don’t have any real reason to know how to fight? It doesn’t seem to bother Mirfak, because it’s dedicated its life to training to be the very best Sluggum Knight there ever was.

Pageral is the embodiment of Sluggum socializing. He loves hanging out with other Sluggums, he loves making friends, and everywhere he goes, his approach and departure are marked very audibly. His nature is perhaps a little exaggerated compared to the Sluggum baseline, but nobody can look at him and say “that’s strange for a Sluggum.”

Our little guys are in symbiotic, mutualistic relationships with other sea creatures. The creature gets companionship and the Sluggem gets a home. Abyss has an anemone, Miasma has a clam, and Wavelet here has a thick strand in a kelp forest. We decided that plural vibes were required, actually, so they and their lifepartner have telepathic communication and love each other. Sluggems go on an important journey to find their home when the time is right.

Charlie is actually a little bit afraid of deep water! He doesn't mind shallow water up to a certain degree, but if he can't touch the bottom he starts to panic, and if it's DEEP water then he REALLY freaks out. Which is ironic, given he's a pool float. But there was a time where for some reason, he couldn't float. He was lounging about in the middle of a lake when something weighed him down so heavy, he just sunk, and sunk, and sunk. He thought he wouldn't make it, he couldn't breathe, he was terrified. But then suddenly the weight was lifted, and he floated right back up to the surface again. Since then, hes refused to go into deep water. He doesn't know exactly why it happened, but if anyone asks he usually insists some sort of lake monster had dragged him down. Learning about the creatures that can lurk in oceans and such, as well as the fact that some types of creatures can find their way into pools as well, hasn't quite helped this fear.

rebel isnt as much of a loner as they used to be, but they still have a hard time connecting with people. they can be kind, sure, but they just dont form connections or develop sympathy for other sluggums as easily as they see the friends they do have do. its so hard, and they dont like being "fake nice". and when they do find someone they wish to be friends with... they kinda just act like theyve known them for their entire life! very overfamiliar. rebel never really got social cues or how regular sluggums interact with each other, or if they ever did, theyve forgotten after all the years spent in solitude. they say theyre working on it, but are they really?

Chalcedony #593 and Mallow #282
Chalcedony is the newest member of the group, and admittedly, she felt out of place at first. Everyone else was so... animated. Lively and bright, both in personality and looks. Chalcedony isn't like that at all. She's sweet and a bit shy, and definitely not comfortable being in the spotlight. She wasn't sure how to even begin befriending anyone. That is, until she met Mallow.

Mallow wasn't exactly as shy as she was, but they were the best possible bridge between her and the rest of the group. Mallow knew exactly what it was like to be the least flamboyant one in the room. Mallow is incredibly in tune with others' emotions, and could easily tell how uncomfortable Chalcedony was at first. So naturally, they took her under her wing, helping her slowly acclimate to the group and realize they weren't nearly as intimidating as they seemed at first.

RED-40 / Eddie - ze/zim/zir

The QOTWs have been helping me round out Eddie's silly personality and what ze does! From zir name being an inside joke turned planetary name turned to something cuter and unassuming, Eddie has really grown on me. Eddie travels space and time all for the sake of mischief and making friends and memories, which turns out to be quite a lot when you have such a long lifespan in comparison to others! Eddie's space tech is capable of cartoony feats, but Eddie zimself has made an ENEMY of the elusive red dot---it *immediately* distracts the lil' guy and nothing else matters but chasing it and trying to catch it, which is... troublesome when you're in space and for some reason concentrated light and lasers are THE aesthetic ever. For all zir intelligence and wit to learn to communicate with various lifeforms and what makes them tick so ze can plan accordingly to entertain zimself, the red dot throws all of that out of the window. Ze is also sooner to babble in various tongues and sounds than immediately the language of those around zim, and has adopted a lot of perhaps strange behaviors from the places ze's visited. Ze can be a bundle of chaos and constantly on the move, but Eddie generally means well. :) I'd imagine zir spaceship is practically magic instead, like Mary Poppins' bag, and is what keeps zim hydrated.

Brilliance - she/her/hers

I only just got Brilliance from the last CS litter drop (both of my sluggums have been acquired this way actually, despite frequenting the Discord lol) so I've not yet given her much lore, but her name is in reference to the autumnal ferns! I belieeeeve her litter was meant to give the vibes of garden statues? But I made the jump that gargoyles are kiiiiiinda like garden statues, right....? Because of the brainrot I have for DC Comics and Jason Todd who has a favorite gargoyle that was his best friend as a kid LOL, I decided to go more that route with Brilliance! I believe it makes a nice juxtaposition to Eddie for Brilliance to be a much more stationary sluggum, always only looking down over the same rainy horizon everyday, never really traveling for herself because she's so dutiful, though I haven't yet decided why she's so compelled. She's significantly calmer and looks pretty when she is, but as a gargoyle, she can still get a little scary as a means of protecting the building she perches on. >:)c

Brilliance and Eddie may be such opposites, but I'd like to think Eddie happens upon Brilliance by chance in zir explorations and becomes real stubborn about becoming acquainted despite how Brilliance comes across as cold and protective of her heart. As in the doodle above, Eddie has very little concept of personal space (hehge.. space..) but Brilliance is learning to put up with Eddie's strange quirks for the sake of their unlikely companionship, the friendlier nature of their shared species winning out. Because Brilliance stays in the same place, Eddie knows ze can always find her, and Brilliance finds herself watching the sky for Eddie to blip in and visit. <3

All my sluggums live in the ocean! Their world is still being ironed out but it's sort of medieval fantasy style, dungeons and dragons core! They can still go on land but rarely do, as their whole society is on the sea floor. I'm ignoring water pressure <3

Magic is fairly common, and channelled through their gems- taking on the gem's colour and sometimes style! Having larger or more gems makes magic come easier and need less practice, as well as giving the slug more spellcasting stamina. However, strong spellcasters with smaller or less gems happen fairly often - they need to train more but are more precise and reliable.

Nicolette Cecilia II, aka Nicole, is a princess from a family known for their magical prowess. Despite her fairly small gem size she's a surprisingly powerful sorceress, having trained since she was a young slug - but it took a lot of effort. This means she's always felt somewhat inadequate with how difficult she found it growing up.

Meanwhile, Pitaya (shark) and the currently-still-nameless sea bunny are both royal guards, both pretty close to Nicole. Pitaya is a physical fighter - she's strong, quick, and capable with a sword. The sea bunny's probably best described as a form of rogue - not a criminal, but a sneaky little guy that keeps low-key. He's good at magic and helps a lot from the backlines, as well as being somewhat proficient with ranged weapons.

For Candy it's always been just straight up Haunted Houses.
She dislikes jump scares because she goes straight into flight mode,
trying to get away no matter what's going on or who's with her. Sometimes
she has even dragged a person with her on accident, that also includes
Sachi as he usually tries to be her go to support person so she doesn't feel
alone or like she's too much or too little for others. She usually only
goes to a haunted house so her friends can enjoy their time even if
she doesn't like to. She's trying to overcome this fear, even though
she knows it'll take time. But man, how she hates trying but also is so
very happy she's taking the steps she needs to so she doesn't feel like
she's burdening Sachi or anyone else to miss out on something they like
because she was afraid of staying inside and something going wrong or
actually happening to any of them.

But for Sachi it's only ever been the paranormal. Mostly poltergeists because
they have enough strength to touch and harm you which is horrifying
to him. He knows to those who don't believe it seems silly but after
seeing it happen a few times before, he has had a fear of encountering
one and not being prepared or it clinging to him and following him around
or from somewhere back to his home. He always keeps salt, crystals, even
some sage on hand in case he ever has a feeling of something going on or
noticing strange things around him or his friends. He believes you can never
be too prepared for anything! He especially makes sure anyone he knows
keeps the blessing written on paper that he's given them to help ward
anything off even if only for a little while, so they stay safe.

Nya's greatest fear around halloween time would probably be,,, being mistaken for candy!!!! since her body is a poptart... she would probably dress up as those stereotypical ghost costumes where its just a sheet with eye holes :3 shes definitely a little scared of the dark so walking around to trick or treat would be pretty spooky for her so she would definitely go with a TON of friends
