Twas a night like any other
and all through the den
not a goobie was stirring
not even a twin
the children were sleeping
the lights all out
the fire was dimming
no one was about
the house was silent
till Alex creeped around
to the kitchen he scurried
from the top floor to the ground
the kitchen was clean
leftovers from dinner
packed into lunch boxes
the meal was a winner
the cook sees his target
on the counter a desert sits
a plate full of brownies
Alex sneaks over using his wits
one brownie gone
then two, three and four
till the plate was empty
he still wanted more
his sweet tooth so large
but Alex would need to wait
it was time for work
and he couldn't be late
the very next morning
the kids would complain
Alex would listen to them
they would ask him to explain
he feigned innocence
saying it was time for school
his secret was safe
he had kept his cool
and all through the den
not a goobie was stirring
not even a twin
the children were sleeping
the lights all out
the fire was dimming
