A boy walked into a local burger joint that was five minutes til close. It being Christmas Eve, the barebones waitstaff wasn’t very thrilled seeing a customer wanting food right before the entire kitchen could be cleaned and they could leave for the holiday. The boy wasn’t older than twelve and looked slightly lost. The newest waitress took pity and sat him in her section, fully intending to serve him by herself to allow the rest of the staff to continue cleaning and leaving on time. However, the manager on duty was notoriously harsh and waved her away. “What do you want?” The manager leaned on the table intimidating the young boy.
The boy stammered as he and his family had just moved from Germany. His English was polished but his accent was still strong. “I-I-I’ll have a hamburger, please.” Sounded more like “I’ll haffe a hampurger, pleaze.”
Now, after a few seconds of thinking about the boy’s sentence, the manager understood what was asked, but he wasn’t nice remember? So, he asked again, “What do you want?”
This caused the boy’s accent to only grow stronger with distress. “I’ll haffe ein hampurger, bleaze!”
This went on for some time until the boy finally exclaimed, “A burger, meister! Meister, burger!"
