Sinclair & St. John's LossesThe two where called together for their final mission, as Sinclair would be leaving later that day to the islands far north. It seemed a fairly simple job, and as the two slipped away in the night towards the city they had no doubts it would go as planned. Both where quietly rejoicing their soon to come hiatus as the time seemed to fly by, and they soon where situated outside the enemy's base, awaiting the signal. Across from them where Sinclair's original unit, his father and brother, along with St. John's mentor, who sat next to the two in her usual serious stance.
"All clear." Sinclair's father called, his eyes directing at the duo across from his own team. St. John and Sinclair joined them as they slipped over the gates into the enemy's territory. Nothing was said as they traversed into the bushes surrounding the compound, their pace slow so as to avoid the attention of possible onlookers.
Yet, as they left the bushes and hid in the shadows, it occurred to them no one was there. It has been silent, and dark, with no lights or guardsmen to be seen. Nothing but an empty building was before them.
"They've already vacated the premises! But we've been watching them all day, how did they-" Sinclair's brother, Johnson, snapped, only to be cut off by a look from his father, Dunstan. They remained quiet for a few seconds, as if awaiting some sign their mission was still not to be fruitless, when St. John's mentor, Sophia, signaled they walk on, to be sure.
As they walked, however, a screeching sound put them all on alter, as a speeding vehicle came towards them. They all made a jump away from the crazy driver's aim, but it was evidently after them, pulling back them ramming forwards again, finally smashing into the metal fence, but not before sending Johnson crashing into a tree, and disorienting the party enough they were separated from each other. The driver, along with the companions the car carried along with him, exited it with precision and surrounded the area, blocking off their escapes. Much to their surprise, it was not the enemy, but one of their own- one of the higher ups of their agency, and he stood surveying them coldly.
"Why?" Was what Dunstan asked, as he tried to help his son to his feet, but Johnson was too lightheaded to stand.
"We needed a quiet place to get rid of you, you holding too much important information to leave, yet we hold no use for you either. Thus we had to act. I am sorry none of you saw reason earlier, and that my associates... did not cooperate. That leaves me to do what needs to be done."
The group was dragged into the empty building, where, surely, this unexpected threat would end them. However, Dunstan, formerly seeming submissive as he was led along, suddenly turned and fought back, along with Sophia, shouting at the two younger (and still conscious) members of the team to leave, and giving them a chance to escape. St. John was not hesitant; he bolted out of there, expertly avoiding recapture. Sinclair tried to stay behind to help, but in the end, also made his escape, soon rushing away from the compound and into the forest.
Neither have found out, yet, what happened to those they had worked so long with. But St. John's cowardice, as he made no attempt to save his fellows, has caused a rift in the friendship they developed. Not only did they loose friends and family that day; they lost eachother's support, their places in their lifelong home at the agency, and where left with a sense of shame they did not do more.
