They're right, they're right. Nothing to fear. This is home. This is the home ground. Like sea turtles are called to distant shores, Caterpillar is called to return to ground. There is no jittering, no anxiety. There is no need to be afraid. His friends are with him. He's almost there. He was almost there yesterday when the foreman pulled him loose from the dirtpile he'd been boring into, shoveling with horns and hands. He doesn't need the pickaxe anymore. He needs to feel the dirt and stones. Tools cannot help. It isn't much further. They won't keep stop him. He isn't upset they tried, they could never understand. But they don't have to. So soon. It isn't far now.

The wermz of the den look at Geia in shock as he emerges from the pit, strange, voidlike companion by his side.
He looks weary, but content, and while Geia himself emerged from the pit 9 days ago, and the thought of wermz coming back from there isn't new to them- his new companion looks like no werm they've ever seen.
Shiso, ever assertive, is the first to speak up.
"So, uh, who's your friend here?"
"I don't know. They haven't told me their name. I don't think they speak, but I have a feeling I'll know their name anyways when they're ready."
Shiso raises an eyebrow.
"Look, I know I sound crazy. Yesterday, I went deeper into the pit than I ever have before. I'm not sure many people have been that deep at all. I... don't know how to describe what I saw there. I was somewhere else. But I wasn't scared anymore. And this guy-" Geia nods to his right "-They were by my side when I emerged."
"So you don't even remember meeting them?"
"I don't remember much.... Only feelings, darkness, cool air. I felt like I was closer to whatever is drawing me to the bottom of the pit than ever before. I felt like I was home."
Seeing the concerned looks on Wren and Shiso's faces, Geia starts stammering.
"N-not that the den isn't home to me now... I'm not going to leave you guys, I promise. I just felt different this time."
This time it's Wren that speaks up in response.
"I think I understand. So Geia, are you satisfied? Did you find what you needed? As for your friend, they're... strange, but I mean, we're all a bit weird in our own ways even back in Eaden, right?" - they gesture back at Aero and Fruit Stripe with a smile. "I don't mind if they stay with us, as long as you're sure they don't mean any harm"
"Thanks Wren. Yeah, we can trust this one, I think. They probably need to adjust to the surface as much as we do to them. As for your question... I'm not sure. I think there's more I still want to know regarding the pit's true nature. I don't know why it whispered the things to Shiso that it did, or why it keeps pulling us back to it almost magnetically day after day. I feel like there's something Titan's not telling us, but I think I trust him- he helped me yesterday when I thought I might pass out from dehydration. I'm not scared anymore. I just want to check it out for a few more days. Maybe I can find some clues."
Wren nods- "It's hard not to be apprehensive, but I believe you. If things start looking bad, come back out right away, ok?"
"Will do."
Geia pays Titan a familiar nod as he walks back to the pit's entrance.
I don't really know what I'm looking for anymore, but I know one thing. Once you pass an event horizon, you're only pulled deeper and deeper into the void's grasp.
[ooc- and to dt, I said this in discord already but thank you so much again for the wonderful new friends and immersive writing. it's hard to put into words just how much fun I've been having with this booth and coming back to see the story evolve has been making my day :> ]
