And that's why I said it sounds harsh, I know there's people who have under developed ones they have had for more than two months, but this cuts out the ones that have really developed personalities, there's those out there who just don't want to let go a design even when they have had it for a while and can't develop it but still won't let it go and instead let it rot, unfortunately, that's their own problem, doesn't mean the event can't help encourage them from afar as unfortunate and unfair as that sounds.
But like I said, it cuts out all those already well developed ones that are just being entered to get the items and such. It would be easier to be able to back track when someone received their Kalon than it is to scavenge for information and relationships they have on the Kalon, especially if they don't put their link to their kalons in their signature or do most of their discussion over pm or offsite.
The contest is more fair with a time of ownership limit than it is with an open format, it's becomes an effortless impress me for most of the entries, and also can be a biased if a mated pair is entered and one of the judges happens to have followed up on and enjoyed their story together.
The point of the contest is not to flaunt what you already have written out for a really long time and just rewrite it all because you get expensive items out of it. The point of the contest was to get the community exploring, reach out to others and aim to think deeper than the surface of their new character, especially for those who have a hard time going in depth and thinking of new ways to expand something that's still barely growing, and those who are new to either character building, or the Kalon community and don't have connections to others. Believe it or not, it's really hard to make relations to others, and people often just want to sit in their own bubbles, this contest gets those new memebers to step up and reach out to others who have characters that will compliment what they are trying to build. It's hard to add to a solidified character, and thus, the participants with developed characters, are simply reusing old information without needing to really talk to anyone.
Keep in mind that kits born to other existing kalons could still possibly count, they aren't exactly a blank slate, and have some backbone to incorporate their parents, but they still need to be a character all their own, and have room to grow, especially if they aren't officially grown into Kalon adult lines yet.
But like I said, you can love or hate, this was the first time kalons did an event like this, and honestly I have never seen anyone attempt to do a development comp, I'm proud of Kalon staff for accepting this challenge, there's always room to grow, and I am excited to see the rough edges get smoothened, especially in terms of making the contest into the way it was intended.
