neptune stared at the specimen. it felt otherworldly and unsettling to him; that was out there? he wanted no part of it, but his curiosity started to win over. though.. what if this thing? this being? whatever it was - what if it was harmful? the diab wasn’t particularly trusting of bram and rune just yet, and especially not of the specimen. he watched as it moved, as if it was breathing. ‘how did it even come to be?’ he thought.

‘hm..’ a plethora of questions popped into neptune’s head, seemingly all at once. “does it have any hobbies or interests?” “does it need a hug?” “can it feel emotion?” he looked down at his backpack, eager to get some answers. pulling out a notepad and pen, neptune slid them across the room towards where the specimen rested. there was no way he was getting close to this creature of sorts, so communicating from a distance would have to do. …if the specimen could even write, that is.

“it’s okay, take as long as you need,” the diab reassured it, not taking into account that it may not even understand him. “i can wait! here, i’ll even introduce myself for you if that’d make you more comfortable,” he added, treating the specimen as if it were a goobie. “i’m neptune!! i like space.. and bunnies… and stuffed animals.. and balloons….. but not loud noises! those are scary!” upon mentioning his fear, he curled up into a ball - he knew there was nothing to be scared of in the moment, but simply thinking of it made him flinch.

after a while, there was still no response from the specimen. “it’s okay, sometimes i’m not up for talking, either!” neptune confessed as he slid some chocolate coins in its direction. it certainly was interesting to look at - something unlike anything he had ever seen before, coming from someone who’s no stranger to magic and adventurous oddities. still, though - he was skeptical of its intentions, not ready to investigate it closer just yet. though, if it turned out to be good, it could make for a comforting companion… [354 words]

‘what in the world,’ atlas thought to himself. ‘what kind of chemistry class assignment gone wrong is that?’ the diab was disgusted by the specimen, and didn’t want to get an inch closer to it. no one could convince him to do so, either - he was fine staying where he was, far, far away from whatever that thing was sat. alongside that, the diab was more than content staying in the (hopeful) safety of anywhere else in the lab, really. anywhere but the room with the specimen was alright with him. surely one can make observations from several feet away.

“it looks like goo,” atlas began writing. “it came from outside, and does nothing. i’m bored with looking at it. it isn’t being interesting.” he didn’t want to be in this situation in the first place, why did he have to take charge in investigations? [145 words]

pitre sighed. he didn’t want to deal with this mess anymore, but knew that he couldn’t ever run away from it. it was reality - nothing could change that; all he could do was face it. the diab wished to not get close, fearful of any potential danger that may lurk beneath the specimen’s unassuming appearance. he noticed many goobies getting very close, nearly close enough to touch it, and all pitre could do was hope they weren’t putting themselves in harm’s way. sure, it was an interesting sight, but something as unfamiliar and new as that should be treated with caution. after searching around for a loose pencil and some paper, pitre began writing down his thoughts on the specimen, hoping that completing his task early will allow him to escape from the goo’s presence - something about it felt off to him, though he wasn’t able to put a paw on it. Crendor makes his way up the tower, ignoring the other floors for now. He didn't make that trek through darkness only to be met with even deeper darkness right now. No. He wants to see the thing. Stare into the heart of the abyss that took his flutter, and see. Does it stare back? Will he stand the challenge? It was as much a test of himself as it was a test of circumstance.

Reaching the top, breaking the pitch black for a de-saturated world. Above him loomed the Mass, encroaching. Reaching. He felt exposed up here, but he had his answer. As he rushed back down the tower, goose pimples rising under his fur, he could feel the eyes following him. So many eyes.

Hyena cautiously approached the amorphous blob lurking in the corner. Though he had no problem observing the specimen, Hyena had been dreading it all day due to the uncertainty of the situation. The creature was pitch black, gooey, and somehow caused a feeling of fear, even for the bravest goobies.
"Can you hear me?" he said, his voice breaking the eerie silence. He was unsure if the creature was able to talk or even process language, but it was worth a try.
He pressed on, each step bringing him closer to the specimen. The air thickened with tension, or maybe it was the creature's aura.
"I'm just here to say hello," he explained, pressing on.
Suddenly, the creature glided effortlessly to the other corner, leaving behind a slick trail of poison that seemed to sizzle and dissolve everything it touched. Hyena jumped back, startled by the specimen's rapid movements.
"Well... uh... I'll be here if you need anything," he whispered, unsure of what was in store for him or the creature. Maybe tomorrow the specimen would be in a better mood, or maybe another goobie would be more successful with their observations. Whatever the case, Hyena hoped they could find an answer soon.

as you ask if the creature is a goob, you begin to realize something very important.
all goobies have a shine to them. everyone knows that the shinier the goo, the healthier a goob...
but this thing lacks any semblance of life.

the creature looks miserable, big blobs of black goo dropping from its body, which is so poorly strung together.
it tries to get closer (you're not sure that's a good idea), but it can't, as it keeps falling apart mid-step.
