It was a cold, wet morning, but that didn't discourage the young dog from having excitedly pounced into the back of his handler's truck. With his bright orange tracking collar on, he was more than ready to face whatever task he was to be presented with today. But once he was standing into the mud with the icy rain in his eyes, Reggie was questioning why his handler decided that today was a good day for hunting, and why it was not just the two of them on this occasion. Despite this, his tail still wagged, his feet still pattered in the mud and he still eagerly awaited sprinting into the brush to soon return with a bird held delicately in his jaw. The extra people? He ignored them. They were not important. It was only about Reggie, his handler and the birds. The scent of rain on the air, the crunching of leaves and twigs under foot and the distant scent of bird that ever so slowly came closer and closer. Reggie's anticipation grew. He knew what was to come, afterall this was not his first rodeo. He waited for the loud bang, ready for instruction and ready for the thrill of the sprint and search for the fallen quarry, but it was yet to come. Trotting at his handler's side, his gaze flicked up and forward repeatedly. He was patiently impatient. He wanted to feel the wind in his ears as he ran and the tickle of grass upon his under belly as he went.
