”Was it this way?” Stew mumbles, turning a corner and going a few feet before stopping. He turns around and speedwalks the opposite direction from where he was originally going,“No, this way, definitely this way.”

The leaves on the trees rustle like an excited crowd talking amongst themselves. It brings another deep feeling of unease to his chest, raising his fur and tensing his wings in preparation for flight if anything happens. Deeper and deeper he goes, getting slowly enveloped by a canopy of woven branches and vines that look like they’re reaching out at him. He can barely make out the few pockets of space that lead to the sky, letting in small amounts of moonlight.

With the near-pitch black surroundings, Stew reaches into his satchel and pulls out one of those old-fashioned oil lamps. The kind that Mordax had insisted he bring, and he’s thankful for it as it’s light and warmth comfort him.

Just don’t let the flame go out. He flinches at the voice, that’s become a little more irritating than scary now, not daring to look around anywhere but forwards.
