You spend days exploring a new island, when you are greeted by a single blue creature with large teal tusks lightly sniffing at you from a far. It picks its head up and smiles at you.
"Hello there traveler! My name is Coastal, and welcome to my cove! I discovered our home a while ago back when I was still a KitKit. Wait a minute. You don't have any ill intentions here do you?" You shake your head no and tell the creature you come in peace. He nods "Good. Before I show you the rest of my home I want you to meet everyone else."
The creature turns his head and starts walking towards a cave, lots of brush and tall grass seem to cover the opening. But the top of the cave is still visible.
You follow it, unsure of what will happen.
He pushes back some of the brush to reveal more of.. more of it? At least 8 more! And one young looking one, they were quite small but brightly colored hard to miss.
The creature shoves you forward towards them with his head grinning, "guys look! I found a new friend exploring while I was hunting today!"
The other creatures approached; a few had small smiles while others had no expressions and stared passed you.
"I am Coastal" he boasted proudly. "These are my friends, family even. This little guy here is one of my best friends Wintermint." Wintermint cowers behind a taller pink creature. Barely squeaking out a hello.
"He's shy but he'll warm up to you. This here is Harper" Harper smiled warmly at you, "hello darling! I'm Harper it's good to meet you" you stare at her in awe for a moment. Her pink glitter like pelt glistening in the night like sparkling water. She had amazing features, even a shark fin. "Why hello Harper and Wintermint it's nice to meet you both" you say calmly still feeling anxious as you meet each one.
A dark figure approaches from behind Harper, another creature. This one was quite a bit bigger than Harper and coastal and a bit more intimidating. He wore his skull on his face, and had bright blue markings that glow.
He smells the top of your head and scoffs at you, "this ones no threat, smells of fear." It almost growled at you. Coastal shook his head "well yeah skeley if I just stumbled upon a random species in a rather large number I can't say I wouldn't be a bit anxious myself. Don't mind him, that's just skeletor he protects us at all times and can be a bit of a loner. He's a little angry since he was a kitkit." Skeletor scoffed again and walked back into the cave. You smirk "he's charming." Coastal nudges your arm a bit, "trust me he opens up like a good book after you get to know him!" You nod. They all have such vibrant personalities. It's hard not to like them.
"Well hey there I didn't get my invite!!" A big bright bird looking creature crashed down from a tree above, excitedly jumping around to meet you. "My names Juniper! It's a pleasure hun!" You smile "it's nice to meet you to!"
"JUNIPER YOU LEFT ME IN THE DEEP WOODLANDS ALO- oh hello! A new guest!" Another voice comes out from the trees behind you, another creature. "I'm Mossyoak! But you can just call me Moss" "well hey there Moss nice to meet you to" you say back. You can't help but smile these creatures are so fun and different.
Coastal smiles and wraps his tail around you "were just missing two, where's Chester and Aurora?"
Harper giggled "now coastal you should know as soon as the suns gone those two are out like lights they sleep all the way til the sun hits the horizon and lights up the whole world again!"
Coastal claps his tail to his head "your right. I can't believe I forgot those two. You'll meet them tomorrow, let's get some food, and rest I'll fill you in."

Some time passes. You find yourself at peace, perfectly happy amongst your new friends, despite hard looks of anger from the skeleton one, what's his name again? Skeletor right. Everyone is very happy to see you, be around you, and share stories. The moon is mid sky, almost acting as the sun. It's full and bright. You smile laying down fully in the sandy beaches, this is pretty amazing.
Coastal sits down beside you, he playfully swishes his tail on your arm to get your attention and not startle you.
"Hey friend, doing okay down there?" He smirks, you sit up and face him. "Quite good coastal. Thank you." He nods, "we are coatikits. Our specie has lived upon this island for centuries. The crescent moon shape makes it seem quite large. Some days it feels like a whole other plant while others a city. We have formed our own group here in this cove by the beaches. Most of us really enjoy the night time and the view of the water but as you can tell some of us would rather sleep til the sun shines on our pelts." He nods towards the sleeping coatis in the cave. I giggle "that is pretty cool, you all have such vast and different looks and personalities. No two coatis seem to be alike." Coastal nods, "you'd be right about that my friend, none of us are alike. We're very similar but we butt heads often. I suppose that's what your specie calls a family in a way yes?" I nods "yes exactly like a family. No ones alike and everyone argues all the time" coastal shakes his head, "we don't have arguments very often, we are quite a happy group. But I suppose you are right it does happen when we're to different sometimes. Minty has yet to grow, I hope to get him a growth herb soon. I met him wandering the moonlit clearing, he was so afraid and alone. Now he acts like he's the bravest coati out there. He's slightly younger then me, but you'd think he's a lot younger since he hasn't had his herb." You look puzzled, "what is a growth herb?" Coastal nods "such is an herb that causes a coati to grow into its adult form after consumption. As you see I am in my final form. But Harper keeps an image of me from when I was not so big and strong" coastal slides over the image of him as a kitkit to show you, you smile "wow you were so cute! And wow you grew such cool tusks once you had the herb." Coastal grins showing them off a bit "I love them. As coatis sometimes we are given items to, once we eat our growth herbs. No one knows what each item does, because it gives a different outcome each time it's used. You go in blind not knowing and you come out with cool traits. I didn't however I just got lucky"
You stare at him in awe, "what a cool species you guys are" he nods "thank you friend, suppose we are just lucky. But let me educate you more on our band here."
You sit up farther, leaning on Coastal a bit as you yawn. The beautiful night is looking more and more peaceful to sleep at any given moment.
"Minty was my first friend, then came skeletor and aurora. They are so fun to be around. Skeletor will grow on you I promise, next minty actually stumbled across Harper. And instead of being defensive, she went into older sister mode right away when she met him. Even was with me til I grew now she acts a bit more mother like."
"Wow Coastal, that's so cool." "Ah but wait friend I have more friends remember? They are just sleeping now." You smile "right sorry go ahead!" You mutter between yawns. Coastal chuckles, "right friend. Then came Chester, and boy was Harper thrilled. Another shark trait coati, only problem is he's afraid of water that goes above your paws. He doesn't like it at all, he'll freak out and come running back up shore. It's quite funny!" You giggle "he sounds quirky" "ahhh we all have our different quirks I suppose, that one's just funny to me" coastal flicks you with his tail, "finally, these two MossyOak or Moss for short. And Vienna. They came to us around the same time, Moss was first and when he laid eyes on Vienna he was smitten. Vienna seemed to fancy him to now that I think of it" Coastal says looking upward as to try and remember something. "Those two fell for each other shortly after, they don't barely seem to spend any time apart. I'm happy they seemed to find love so easily here! I strive to provide a peaceful and loving camp for my clan or coatis." You nod "you do great coastal" he sighs, laying down and pulling you toward him so you can rest your head on his side. "Ah thank you friend. I don't know how I ended up in a leadership position but here I am. Everyone comes to me for questions, and wants my approval when new Coatis are brought into our clan, which is named Riverbend Coatis. Since our cave here faces the shoreline, but backs up to a stream here on the island" you lay on Coastal and yawn "I love the name." He grins "thank you friend, we hope you might also stay here with us. You are quite a kind human." You nod "I want to stay with you guys tomorrow I'll build a new bed so you don't have to stay with me coastal" he flicks you again with his tail. "We will help friend, welcome. And thank you, tomorrow I must get back to my hunting duties and patrols with the night crew. We love checking out the moonlit clearing to see if we can find any travelers to join us the more the merrier" you nod "I'll come along sounds fun" "only if you'll stay quiet my friend, the hunts are very serious business!"
You yawn again and everything begins to feel comfortable and warm. What a wonderful day.

"Phantom. Join me" a white coati with bright blue dots and stripes comes rushing over to Coastal, "yes sir mister coastal sir, I mean uh sorry! Sir!" Coastal shakes his head, "you don't need to do any of that kid, just come help us set out for the hunt. I need you, Moss, and Skele asap." You yawn and stretch, what time is it? How long did you sleep??
"Coastal, what time is it? How long was I asleep?" You look around but, it looks just like it did when you fell asleep. Dark, shining moon bright in the sky stars all about, Coastal laughs "friend! You are finally awake! You slept through a whole sun rise and moon rise! It is the next night friend"
You sit up alarmed, but at least everything makes sense. "Hey kiddo!" Harper yells over to you, "finally awake huh?" Wintermint runs full speed around her and tackles you back to the sand. "Hey!! Your awake tag your it!" Mint runs off laughing, you chuckle. "I'll get ya for that minty!"
"Good morning sleeping beauty, get some good rest in?" MossyOak brushes past you, smiling at you very warmly. You nod, "I was so comfortable, thank you Moss!" Moss nods "we have to get going here friend, you stay back alright? We're going on a long hunt so we'll be back closer to sun rise" you frown, "I wanted to come" Coastal steps between you two, "listen friend, we appreciate your eagerness to join us but we really need to focus. With so many new mouths to feed we have to bring back a lot! Once we have plenty, we'll take you next time" you nod "thank you coastal." Phantom walks besides Skeletor meeting up with Coastal and Moss. They all head out towards a dark forested area, they call this the forested ruins. It looks rather scary, but they seem very confident so you join Harper, sitting beside a pile of rocks and some sticks. You look down and say "hey have you guys had a fire here before?" Harper shakes her head, "what is this fire you speak of?" You kneel down and begin piling the wood in a nice t pee style stand. Then you push up a lot of rocks all around the sticks to ensure the fire will not spread, you start to strike the stones to the wood and it lights very small at first but grows to a nice steady flame. Harper's pupils dilalate, "woah your a magic human?" You laugh "no Harper, this is fire. It keeps us humans warm and helps us see at night" Harper nods "this would make sense, I always wondered how you humans stayed warm no offense but your furless!" You laugh, "your not wrong there."
The fire burns and you stare out at the water with Harper, minty comes rushing back from the moonlit clearing with what appears to be a discarded bear claw, nice work minty! Minty sits between you and Harper asking lots of questions, admiring the fire with you. You almost just take a few minutes and enjoy the peace with them. How calming

A few coatis emerge from out of the cave, Chester, Vienna, and Aurora all come to join you. They ask questions about the fire, laugh, and joke with you about the island. They share stories and some of them even begin to fall asleep. Chester nods "I promised Moss I'd try and get Vienna to be more social tonight, that didn't seem to work as I hoped" Vienna was curled up a few feet from the fire dead asleep. Minty chuckled at him, "I don't know why you try, she's literally a flower!" Chester scoffed, "what does that even mean?" Minty stood up and sat a few feet from him, gently pointing at her without disturbing her sleep. "See the purple and the green leaves? She needs sunlight to gain her energy, she needs photosynthesis. Her head is literally a living plant. And they rely on sunlight. So when the sun is gone, so is her energy. It's depleted. That's why it's so hard for her to stay awake in the night time. She physically can't" Harper nods. "You sure know your stuff Minty, I'm proud of you." She nuzzles him and pulls him in closer to her. He smiles beamingly, "thank you Mint, I never realized that about her. I thought it was just a trait for looks but I never thought it was a working one like mine and Harper's fins" Chester flexed his fin back and forth as he spoke. Minty smiled "most traits are living, or working traits in some way for the majority of us. Always think outside the box! But in my case, I just asked her. You could to ya know" Chester blushed. "I try not to speak with any other coatis mate, I did one time a long time ago and he assumed I had ill intentions and fought me so bad I couldn't walk for a whole moon"
Minty gasped "I'm sorry Chester that's awful! MossyOak and Vienna aren't mean spirited in the slightest I can assure you, just talk to them more!" Chester smiled, "we could all learn a lot from you kid, your pretty amazing you know that?"
You lay down close to Harper, her tail swishes towards you but never touches you. Her warmth radiating towards you. You stare up at the stares and begin feeling at peace again. You could get used to this life. Your eyelids feel heavy, sleep approaches you quickly this night.

"Hey come on now would you, relax a guy has to eat to eh?" You hear a low voice, it sounds unfamiliar to any of your new friends. You roll onto your side, Coastal and a new coati are pacing in circles around each other. Skeletor sits a few feet behind coastal watching intently for his que. Harper yawns and rolls closer to you brushing up against you. "Don't worry friend, Coastal just found this coati trying to steal some meat from the pile the boys just brought back from hunting. He'll chase him off or he'll ask him to stay. Coasty boy doesn't seem to fond of this one though, which is interesting." You perk up and sit up, still leaning into Harper. "Why is that Harper?" She answered through a whisper the best she can, "this coati, I sense arrogance from him. Strong ego, Coastal is a happy leader. He tries to lead us through maturity and decepline. Although he is young, he founded this clan. He built everything we have, and he takes care of us as best he can. He doesn't like new comers that seem to challenge that in anyway. Or take from it. He will give if asked, and help when asked. He is kind hearted, and will rarely ever say no. And that's why he is dangerous, if you do not know him and steal or do him wrong he is not quick to forgive." You nod "that's understandable though!"
"Where does a Coati like you even come from." Coastal says flatly staring into the soul of this unknown intruder. "I mostly live along the beaches, I have my whole life I've seen you plenty of times." Coastal growls, "you've what now, seen us plenty of times. Or stolen from us plenty of times?" The coati shakes his head "no no man you got it all wrong mmkay? I just couldn't catch anything good to eat today and you have so much good food I couldn't help myself. Promise ya I've only taken food like 4 times from ya normally your just to busy and never see mes all. The names Rosco, they call me bandit" coastal snickers. "I can see how you achieved the nickname."
"Now. Where is it you live?" Rosco shook his head and continued pacing circles with coastal in a stand offish way, "I already told ya mate, hard of hearing? The beaches here my whole life. I enjoy the presence of others but they don't enjoy me to much. I'm casted out by myself."
Coastal sat down and blinked at Rosco, "alright then. Would you like it to be that way forever? Alone with no friends hungry every day and alone? No mate? Kitkits, nothing?"
Rosco also sat down, eyes widened. He hadn't ever thought of that before, "n-no.. I don't want that."
Coastal smirked as Rosco looked down at the sand, drawing shapes with his paws.
"Alright then, it's settled. You get one shot, don't blow it. Got it? You can join the clan but you'll be on our hunting team so I can stay back with the others and protect the clan." Rosco looked up slowly, "me? Join you guys?" Coastal flicked his tail "that's what I said unless, you'd rather be alone.." Rosco growled, "alright. Alright you made your point. I'd rather stay please" coastal smiled, "then its settled I suppose"
Coastal beckoned Roscoe to follow him, Roscoe kept his shoulders low and his gaze even lower. Skeletor stood up to push him with his shoulder, his teeth close to Roscoe's ear. "Do not make him regret his choice brining you here, understand? You are not top dog, you are not alpha here. We are equal." Skeletor growled quietly, then slid into the bushes behind them. Roscoe scoffed, "yeah, yeah. I got it. New guy in town, check the ego. Got it." Coastal turned his head around, leading Roscoe to the cave "you said what new guy?" Roscoe shook his head and grinned slightly, "nothing boss man, just happy to be here with you... all.. woah" Roscoe's jaw dropped slightly, as he followed Coastal, the big mouth of the cave right in front of them. Many of the clans coatis, were out and about enjoying the beautiful day ahead of them. You sat with Minty by the fire pit, it wasn't lit yet but they would surely ask you to light another once the day light fell. You laughed as Minty rolled around in the sand telling you an extravagant story.
Harper's ears flicked, her and Chester were just coming in from the beach. MossyOak and Vienna were just setting out on a walk to the forested ruins, aurora was sitting in the cave organizing her drawings and paintings. And phantom was laughing, chatting with skeletor out in the woods, debating on going on a hunting competition. Whoever brought back the most kills wins. Juniper was sitting beside aurora, asking her all kinds of questions about her drawing skills.
Everyone paused as Coastal showed Roscoe the cave, telling him he gets his own spot among the rest as long as he respects everyone's space and nests. He nodded and thanked coastal for being so generous, Coastal stood upon a tall rock in the center of the beach and the cave and called for attention. Everyone wandered over, minty shoved you "come on friend, your one of us so you have to come to the meetings now!" You smile, one of them huh? You like that. "Yeah okay buddy let's go!" You sit next to your new friends a warm smile on your face, everyone around you greets you with the same smile, they all seem to like you now. Even skeletor. The others turned their attention from you, to Roscoe. They watch him with intent but their gazes aren't entirely friendly which shocks you.
"Hello everyone, I found a coati today. I would like for him to join us, he has some traits I think we could put to use. But be warned he is quite... arrogant. This is Roscoe." Coastal boasts stepping aside to let Roscoe on the rock. He steps up and smiles proudly, "hello everyone! Nice to be meeting you all, I hope I can make a great addition to your team" Harper turns her head "he doesn't seem that arrogant. Hello Roscoe it's nice to meet you" she leads the crowd in a steady hello, as everyone welcomes their new friend. "He will be joining the hunting squad and taking my place, so I may help around here more, and protect the young. That is all for this meeting, we have enough meat for the week. Thank you all" Coastal steps down and everyone circles the newcomer.
Some filled with excitement othered with many questions, it seems Roscoe is enjoying the attention. You sit back and wait to say hello!

The night falls upon us once again, blanketing the sky in beautiful stars. The usual culprits are sound asleep in their den, while you are striking up a new fire. Minty and Harper praise you and you laugh, thinking nothing of it but enjoying your new friends. Harper and minty get lost in conversation while Coastal, Roscoe, and Phantom are seated by the shoreline having a discussion. You start to hear hard breathing, you turn around but.. see nothing? Just some bushes? You stare at them, squinting to see better but you don't see much. As you go to turn around, a bush shakes violently. You turn toward it and stare harshly, a set of purple eyes glares back at you. Moving closer and getting bigger, you stay calm. Watching the eyes get closer until it forms.. a coati. A bright purple coati with a beautiful pattern and ghosts all over its pelt. "Hello human. I am Casper. I come in peace. Can you introduce me to the others? I have no home or family, I've been watching your clan for a few days from a far. And I'd love to join." You nod "stay here though okay? Our leader coastal must approve of you first okay?" Casper nods "I saw the ego full coati get accepted cautiously by your leader earlier. I must say I agreed with him, that coati always gave me a good feeling" Casper sits, waiting the approval of coastal while you rush out to go grab him.
"Coastal look! I found a new friend!" Coastal smiles at you, "wow thank you! A great job you've done hmm? Let's go talk to them did they tell you much?" You fill in coastal on how their name was Casper, and how they approved of your judgment of Roscoe. He chuckled "I feel I'll get along well with this one, hello fellow coati! Nice to meet you, I'm-" Casper stands proudly in front of Coastal, "you are Coastal leader of this clan. I am pleased to meet you sir, I was wondering if I could join your clan? I have no home and I enjoy how you all interact and treat each other. Do you have a medic yet? Someone who can heal and help you when injured?" Coastal shook his head, "sadly none of us know much or medicine or how to heal other then sleep when sick or wounded! You'd be a great addition, uh--?" "Oh I'm sorry coastal, my names Casper! It's a pleasure to meet you" "likewise! Come I'll show you to our home" Coastal leaves Phantom and Roscoe who kindly greet Casper, while coastal takes them to meet everyone else who is awake.

You wake rather late again, the sun is starting to set. Vienna yawns her flowers wilting slightly as MossyOak guides her towards the cave. Her aurora yawn and fall in beside each other ready to sleep away another night. Harper and Minty greet you, and Coastal pushes you to your feet. "We've got an adventure on our.. paws.?" Coastal questions leaving minty in a roar of laughter. "An adventure? What kind?" You ask, Coastal boasts, "it's the time of year already, where pumpkins grow large and ghouls gather! We are going to the portals." You follow, not asking much more but worrying. What will happen, will we be attacked by strange creatures?
Coastal leads you to a spinning purple circle, a portal. You've never seen a real portal before, it almost looks like a rip in space. He leads you through with minty and Harper happily following behind.
This place is dark, the wind makes it feel crisp and cold.
