Faye had lived through many holiday seasons. Though it had been decades, she was surprised that none of the days she had celebrated ever blended together. Every holiday season something unique seemed to happen, and Faye very much liked to reflect on those moments. Sometimes it was a family announcement. This was something that became more common as she got older, with births, engagements, and other such events being included. Then of course there were the gifts. Many memorable objects and experiences had been passed around over the years. There were times when even the weather was the source of surprise. Faye could recall a couple of times when the snow had been the talk of the whole event.
In recent times Faye had taken to celebrating by herself on the actual holiday. Her children and grandchildren all had jobs now. Holidays were usually observed days or weeks later, when they could all get together. Faye didn't mind, of course. It was much more important to her that she get to see everyone, regardless of the day. And the things that they all did together never really changed. It just meant that each holiday's defining event could still be different. Now there was talk of promotions and other career changes. She had been brought to tears when gifted a framed copy of the degrees her children had achieved. Her grandkids were now grown and tall enough to help decorate the house.
Faye kept an open mind about the holidays. Time had shown her that really, anything could happen.

The christmas decorations. That may sound a bit strange, but it's the one thing I look forward to every year in regards to winter. There's something so special and unique about how all the lights look on the winter nights, reflecting on the bright white of the snow. It gives a sort of warm glow, and I spend a lot of my nights walking home from work so having some beautiful, colorful displays to light my way home is such a special treat.
