Carolina Shepherds Summer Event
This summer the Blue Ridge Club is hosting a hiking trip at Mount Skylight in New York! This mountain is 4,925 ft tall with a fairly flat summit clear of most vegetation. You and your dog (or club dog) can climb to the summit by taking one of a few different trails daily, participating in the community, writing about your dog(s), and/or drawing your dog(s). As you climb the mountain you will earn prizes when you reach specified altitudes!
Information and Rules:
This event runs from 8/13 to 8/28.
You may choose a trail to follow once a day, regardless of whether or not the previous day’s results have been posted.
You may use one of your dogs or if you do not own a dog you may choose a club dog to use.
SAR traits, equipment, and competition titles that give SAR bonuses apply to this event with the exception of weather-based traits and equipment. For example if your dog has the Driven (+2 to SAR) trait, they would get +2 feet, but if they had the Water-intolerant (-2 to SAR if precipitation is present) trait, it would not apply. The weather is considered to be moderate with no wind or precipitation.
Commissioned artwork and writing are accepted for this event. You may enter art or writing that you have already created for your Carolina Shepherds, however you may not enter it more than once. Artwork should be colored in.
Artwork and writing can be of any of your dogs, not just the one you are hiking with.
How to Play:
Once a day you may choose a trail to follow up the side of the mountain. You may choose the easy trail, the moderate trail, or the challenging trail. The moderate and challenging trails are hard and there is a chance that you will not advance by choosing these trails. The easy trail has no chance of failure - you will always advance by choosing this trail.
Easy Trail: You and your dog will ascend 150-250 feet, determined by RNG. No chance of failure.
Moderate Trail: You and your dog will ascend 250-400 feet, determined by RNG. There is a 25% chance of failure.
Challenging Trail: You and your dog will ascend 400-650 feet, determined by RNG. There is a 50% chance of failure.
You can also gain additional feet by participating in the community, drawing art of your dog(s), and/or writing about your dogs. You may commission artwork or writing for this event.
Community Participation:
Post in the community discord (once a day): Share a picture of your Carolina Shepherd, say hello, talk about animals, ask a question, or drop a suggestion for a new adopt! (25-50 feet, determined by RNG).
Artwork:
Headshot - A drawing of your dog’s head (50 feet). You will earn additional feet with shading (15 feet), a simple background (15 feet), and/or a complex background (25 feet).
Example drawn by Julius525 with no background.
Halfbody - A drawing of your dog’s head, shoulders, and at least two limbs/tail (75 feet). You will earn additional feet with shading (25 feet), a simple background (15 feet), and/or a complex background (25-50 feet, determined by RNG).
Example drawn by taikunfoo with a complex background
Fullbody - A drawing of your dog showing their full body (100 feet). You will earn additional feet with shading (25 feet), a simple background (15 feet), and/or a complex background (50 feet).
Example drawn by Vinson with a complex background
Simple background - A simple background without much detail. Vague shapes, clouds/mists, blurred lines, etc are examples of simple backgrounds. A background that is a solid color does not count as a simple background, some effort does need to go into it.
Complex background - A complex background with a good amount of detail. Shapes should be clear and details such as tree bark, grass, stones, flowers, etc, are clearly visible.
If you have any questions about what category/categories your art might fall into, please feel free to send me a PM or ask in the discord help channel!
Writing:
Personality Development: Write a minimum of 50 words about the dog’s personality (25 feet)
Likes/Dislikes: Make a list of 5 things your dog likes and 5 things they dislike (15 feet)
Stories: Write a minimum of 200 words featuring the dog (50 feet, +25-50 feet for every extra 100 words). This topic doesn’t have to be about the event, so long as your dog is the star of the story it will count!
Prizes:
500 feet - Random treat chosen from beef, chicken, rabbit, or salmon
1000 feet - Random toy chosen from squeaky toy, tennis ball, or tug toy
1500 feet - Common custom (any common markings)
