Jacks eyes shifted between Beni and Iphis, noting that Beni looked quite excited... an awkward smile for such a large, intimidating kalon. Iphis, of course, remained silent. He stood next to Beni with a smirk, eyes flitting to and fro as if sizing up Jack.

“So, care to take the test of courage?” Iphis’s words startled Jack, his tailtip twitching as the hairs on the back of his neck stood up.

Jack turned to the clip-board, with crudely fawn likenesses of the counselors running the activity at the top. This is more a spook for kids than it is a real test of courage, ain’t it? Those counselors can’t be much older than me, I bet. Jack mused, before signing up anyhow.

His hair still stood on end, yet it wasn’t under Iphis’s disinterested gaze, but rather the song of the forest, the presence which beckoned him further... Something- someone was there, and it wanted him to unveil the forest’s secret. He had heard it earlier too, just under the counselors voices, a lilting, mournful tone, a presence which begged for the company of another. It was stronger now, a childlike wailing, a call for help, attention, release... Jack didn’t know which, but he was sure as hell going to find out.

He scrawled his name across the sign-up sheet and gingerly placed the pen back where he had found it. Fur still prickling, he whirled to face Beni and Iphis, grinning nervously as the two exchanged knowing glances. There was no backing out now.

A young Kalon stood near the edge of Kamp watching some of the other kampers move towards the edge of the woods, talking between themselves excitedly. His ears twitched as he strained to hear what they were talking about. /A test of courage?/ He thought to himself and bit his lip. Should he? Zander wasn't sure if he was the right material for that. He rubbed his shoulders and watched some more kampers walk towards the cabin to sign up.

Zander let out a breath and puffed out his chest a bit. He wasn't going to be called a scaredy cat by anyone. Even though technically he hadn't been called that by anyone yet. Slowly he made his way to the cabin where the sign-up sheet was and saw two counselors excitedly talking to the young kampers about the night walk. They seemed a little scary to Zander and he put his head down, trying to duck out of the eye of the two of them. Not noticing that the line in front of him was moving he felt himself being pushed from behind. Now he was at the front. Zander stared at the sign-up sheet, unsure of what to do. He could hear some kampers behind him muttering and wondering why he wasn't signing up.

"Hurry up already!" He heard from behind. He swallowed his fear and reached over to the pen and scribbled his name down shakily. That was it. He was all signed up. No turning back now. Zander let out a breath and walked away to the side quickly. He felt his heart pounding in his chest. He hoped it wasn't too scary...the walk. But there was no turning back now.

Maverick squinted as he looked at the sign up list. This had to be a joke right? What on earth would be so scary about this hike that had the other Kampers practically quaking in their boots as they stared at the line of trees in front of them. He scoffed with a roll of his pale blue eyes. This was going to be a piece of cake! Mav pulled out a pink highlighter from his pack and neatly scrawled his name across the bottom of the sign-up list. Once he was finished Maverick glanced around again at the Kampers that continued to pool into the clearing to hear the counselors opening pitch. For it to be so far away from the center of Kamp there was a good number of other kids there Mav took comfort in that although he didn't really know anyone else at the Kamp. Perhaps this whole hiking trip would be a chance for him to make some friends.

eloise rose from her
bed quietly, hearing the
chattering of other
kampers around her. she
had heard news of the
test of courage, and had
decided immediately
she would attempt it. she
decided that kamp would
be what she made of it,
so she would try everything,
no matter how ‘scary’ it
seemed. eloise grabbed her
book bag, tucking in it her
essentials before she put on
her sunglasses and
headphones. she tugged
the backpack on, before
she followed the chattering
of others to the test of
courage.

she let herself fall behind,
managing to be the last to
doodle her name on the
clipboard. she stared at the
multi colored pen in her
hand, before she finally
chose the black, decided
she liked it best. after
signing, eloise followed
everyone, keeping to herself
as she eyed the woods
around her. the dark and
dreary woods reminded her
of home, of the hell in which
she lived. she kicked at the
dirt, trying to force away the
thoughts of her home and
family. instead she focused
back on the forest, and the
dark homely feeling that
washed through her.

albeit eloise wasn’t excited
to spend a bunch of time
wandering the forest, she
wasn’t scared. living in hell
the past sixteen years had
thought the girl how to
handle herself, and she had
seen far worse before. but
Eloise decided to try and
enjoy it, changing her playlist
to a Halloween one so she
could truly immerse herself
in the feelings of horror that
some of those around her
were feeling. she might
even use this time to scare
a few of them. maybe this
would be fun

“Hmph, a ‘Test of Courage’ through the woods? Piece of cake.” Zion muttered as they eyed the sign-up sheet. More and more kalons seemed to be signing up as time went by but Zion crossed his arms and huffed. ‘I’ve been through scarier than some sort of premade spooky hike meant for kids, no way am I gonna waste my time with this… but then again…” He always loved exploring and though he didn’t scare easily, who was he to miss out on an opportunity like this? But this was a nature hike for kids, how dangerous is it even going to be? Oh, but actually getting to be in nature and seeing things that are alive? He stalked over to the sheet and grumbled, finally settling on what he wanted to do. Zion grabbed the pen, clicked it to the orange color and scribbled his name onto the sheet.

So long as he wasn’t separated from the group, this wouldn’t be too bad, right?

The morning air was crisp and laden with the scents of the forest. Stretching sore muscles after an intense fight with a fever for two days and standing victorious, Zia glanced towards the two peculiar kalons again. She exhaled a sharp breath of air and watched as the mist laced with the cold morning air. There was nothing making her partake in these painful kamp events, and she just wanted to get out of here as soon as she could. A second glance towards the forest. She inhaled again, stretching out her legs on her cabin's ledge. For a second time, Zia glanced at the long line of trees that stood tall and menacingly in the short distance. As she looked on, she realized that she was not a coward, and this "spooky hike" would not faze her in the slightest. With a small puff that was a laugh and a sigh, she bounded over to the sign-up sheet. Deliberately making eye contact with the two counselors, Zia picked up the pen that was attached to the clipboard - frowning at the luminosity of the hot pink on her sensitive eyes - and quickly scrawled her name down on the list. There were already so many names, many she did not recognize. She scoffed, raising an eyebrow. How scary could this activity really be?
