✿ what are puakai ✿
puas are chubby dog/cat/fishthings that are often found in tropical bodies of water. they have a fish-like tail, gills on said tail/neck and fins next to their ears/end of tail. their ears are simply holes next to the ear-fins, much like birds. they have flowers growing from the base of their tail and next to the ear-fins. these flowers can't be removed without seriously harming the pua. they can also be read to check how a pua is feeling (will wilt when pua isnt feeling well ect.). the flowers are used to attract a mate and lure prey in. puas also have a balloon-like membrane around their neck that they can fill up with water/air to sink/float (think submarines). they tend to live for about 30-ish years, 1 human year roughly translating into 2-3 pua years. puas are a bit bigger than a grey wolf, standing at about 90-95cm. puas are omnivores, but lean more towards aquatic prey.
