mermaids
creatures rumored to be myths.
but what if they really are real? well, they are. they're being driven to the bottom of the ocean due to fishing nets, baiting, and mermaid hunters. if you're lucky, you might get to see one. however that might be your first and last time seeing one as well. mermaids are creatures of trickery, as they often flirt with men, only to drown them. if a mermaid were to kiss someone though, they would share the ability to breathe underwater, which is basically the only means of saving if you're unfortunate enough to be lured into their traps.

the mermaid/merman population is very high
believe it or not, they're just being pushed to
the bottom of the ocean, which isn't all that
bad considering all of the ancient ruins they've
turned into thriving colonies. however, if you fall
in love with a human, god forbid the others find out-
you could be shunned from your colony or even worse;
killed.

again... congrats? either way, you're stuck
at sea on a ship full of seasick men. woohoo,
must be a blast huh? well- actually, it is kind've fun.
but things have been getting a little strange. vibrant
fish the size of dolphins have been spotted nearby,
and you're a bit curious as to what they might be.
fishing nets are placed down, harpoons are loaded,
and fishing poles are located on just about every
nook and cranny there is on the boat you're on.
word has spread fast back to the mainland, and
now everyone is in a mad rush to capture one of
these fish. though you have suspicions that
these might not be fish at all, and instead
something much more extraordinary.

personality➝ america is a very sharp witted mermaid. America loves to play tricks on mermaid hunters and fishermen, though she doesn't mind sailors as they don't try to harm her kind nearly as much as the other two groups do. she's a natural born warrior, and will fight for her colony gladly, but she prefers to be sneaky and use the element of surprise rather than face the situation head-on. she has a couple downfalls that includes the way she tends to flirt her way out of sticky situations and how she's very vain about her looks.
history➝ America was born into the Whale Colony, but left and joint the Conch colony when she turned of age. That being said, all connections with her family are now cut off. She spends most of her time sunning herself out on rocks. There not much to do as a mermaid, as there is no currency or government system. In her days in the Whale Colony on the other side of the ocean, her colony was constantly attacked by all sorts of humans wanting to see a mermaid. She begged for her colony to just move away, but they insisted to fight back, which ending up resulting in her mother's death. She moved away to get away from that, but things were no different on the other side of the ocean either. Out of two colonies - the Stingray colony and the Conch Colony, she chose the Conch colony. She realized that after joint, she would have to fight instead of run away sometimes.

Background: Kit has been hunting mermaids and mermen ever since his first encounter with one when he was 13. He was on a casual fishing trip with his parents when his dad was attacked by a mermaid. His younger brother, 11 at the time, was closest to their dad and went to save him. While everyone survived his younger brother was brought to the hospital to recover from a minor case of pneumonia from fighting the creature.

Everyone was fine after that, but couldn't exactly recall what happened. Except for Kit. He recalled ALL of it, and decided to make sure no one was hurt by the creatures again.

After several years of hunting, Kit invested in a custom mer-tail he could wear. He made sure it looked exactly like the ones of the mermaids and mermen that he had hunted before. He trained himself to be able to hold his breath for several minutes and dive incredibly deep, in hopes to find the "heart" of the mer-folk and get rid of them. (It sounds kinda cheesy... I may change it.)

personality➝ killian jones can probably best be described as selfish and rude. he cares about his well-being more than others, and doesn't really care what it takes to capture a mermaid or merman. he tends to gamble and bet when he's on shore, and he has a bit of a drinking problem, which only cause him to have major headaches the next morning. whn he's angry, he usually gives everyone a cold shoulder and usually keeps to himself.
history➝ killian was born somewhere in ireland, moving to america at a young age. his family went by boat instead of plane, which proved to be a fatal mistake. The menfolk had capsized their boat in the middle of the ocean. His father was drowned in the accident, but he and his mother were spared out of mercy and pity. The coast guard rescued the two and brought them to America. They lived in upper state maine for a few years, then over to the shores of maryland. his mother hated that killian wanted to be a mermaid hunter, but he never quit. his mother eventually passed away from old age.

history ➳ April's mother died at childbirth, so she
was raised by her father. At the age of 16,
her father was chosen do take part in a trip
to discover new lands as part of the crew,
and left her alone, promising he would return
as soon as he could. However, the ship was
caught in a terrible storm, washing up on an island
at sea. As the crew attempted to depart on a dingy,
their boat was attacked my mermaids, and her
father killed (or so the story goes). A lone survivor
managed to return home, and when she was told
of the tragic incident she vowed to avenge her father,
joining a band of mermaid hunters at the age of 18.
