I think that having Shadowfire as a witness could be a really interesting plot development. He would have to admit to trespassing on LightClan territory in order to testify that Darktail killed Mousefang, which would make him look like the culprit. That might be why he is reluctant to come forward with what he saw. LightClan would become even more suspicious of DawnClan after this new information comes out.
