Romance Triangle.
Kinda planned on Akira developing a crush on Kenji whenever they meet. This thing between Kenji and Jessika could make things interesting. Bring a triangle into the plot that way, admist the pit of darkness the plot really is when you look closely, there's some lighthearted, and sometimes humurous, drama in as well. Kinda like attack on titan- it's great, but ya got to watch something lighthearted every few episodes or you're mind will hypothetically explode.

That being said- should I make something happen while they are horse back riding since they are kind of away from everyone at the moment

Yeah , if that's ok. The plot mainly takes place in Ember. Vampires can just run between the two kingdoms, or if someone is kidnapped and taken to runemeth.
