plot idea suggestion

What if some rich person sets out a bounty on merfolk, like they'll pay handsomely for any merfolk brought to them because they are some huge rare creatures collecter. So hunters and fisherman are like going crazy searching for one because like each merfolk they catch and give the guy is like ten million or something?
