thats exactly what i was thinking! starting with a few basic need type signs and then slowly branching out with more words as the need for them arises.
the only issue is, that i forgot about, that bluecloud might end up feeling a bit distant from them. especially from yarrowkit i would imagine. she couldn't use this communication method since she obviously couldn't see what body movements they were making. i don't think that fact should stop them from doing this but it's just something to think about i suppose

Ooh, that would be interesting actually. It depends on what Froggie thinks, but if she does end up becoming a bit distant from them that could be interesting drama.
However, since they're gonna be spending more time with their kits one of the other kits could help translate what they're saying to Bluecloud, since they'd probably teach the signs to their other kits as well.

oh, yeah that could work. i did assume that the rest of the kits would learn the signs as well but didn't think that they could act as a translator.
i suppose it just comes down to how froggie has bluecloud react and feel about it all then~

i also have another idea for yarrowkit that...probably won't fly. but i still feel the need to share it anyways or else i won't stop thinking about it

because she is deaf, i was thinking that she could be sort of forced into (not super forced but just like, pushed towards) being a medicine cat for a short time? she won't like the position and will eventually (after like two moons or something) make it known to her mentor or something that she isn't happy with the position. because she won't be training as a medicine cat for long she won't really remember any herb stuff once she gets older
(her herb name prefix could allow Silverleaf, or someone else, to potentially interpret it as 'she's destined to be a medicine cat!' as another incentive along with her disability to make her a medicine cat)

this could add on some angst to whoever we decide is supposed to be the next medicine cat apprentice. the cat would be all disappointed about not being the one picked and maybe they would even have to train as a warrior for a couple of moons or something.
maybe yarrowkit realizes that this cat wanted the position so she starts trying to teach them what she's learning in secret. if Silverleaf was to catch them during one of these little training sessions, maybe this is how she somehow figures out that yarrowkit doesn't want to be a medicine cat and that this other cat is the one who wants the position.

(i seem to have a thing for pointlessly complicated drama...and because i already have a high position cat - tinystar - if people feel like it would be unfair of me to also have the medicine cat apprentice for a brief time i am perfectly fine with not going through with this)

Ooh, I really like that idea. I don't think it would be too unfair because you'd only have the position for a short amount of time, maybe like a moon or so minimum, so as long as everyone on the thread is okay with it I'd love to do that. It would also give us an excuse to develop a bunch of signs for herbs, which could be useful.

@froggie - you...might want to change a few things? i won't force you or anything though if you don't want to but if you want to stay genetically correct:

Frostkit should be white. in order for Ice (and her future kit) to be deaf, their white must come from something called dominant white. this means that all of ice's biological kits have to be white. She also shouldn't have a long coat (I don't know if that's what you intended or not but her fur looks a bit poofy to me)

Mousekit is fine if you add some white spotting to Adderstrike. It really doesn't have to be that much - tip of his tail, small chest spot, whatever as long as he has a tad bit of white

Torrentkit should actually be black because Cielo isn't dilute. (dilution is necessary to turn black into grey). Like with Mousekit, you'll need to add a bit of white to either Bluecloud or Cielo if you want to keep his white chest and face markings but his paws are more difficult. you could keep the white paws since it would be possible for them to just show up but it's rather uncommon. normally when cats have white paws it comes from a recessive gene normally only found in purebreds. it probably wouldn't be a big deal to give Cielo the white paw gene but it wouldn't make a whole lotta sense for Bluecloud to have them considering both Pikeflower and Mistyclaw didn't have it
(i honestly might not have Bluecloud's appearance right in my mind though. i picture her as a solid grey cat. is this wrong or...?)

Honestly I pictured Ice as the same colors as Bluecloud so I never really bothered to look.
Also, I imagine Bluecloud to look like Torrentkit but without the white paws! ;w;

as for Adderstrike, he can have a little white on his tail!

errrr his paws don't show in the pic anyway so I'll give Cielo white paws.

Torrentkit would still be black though even if bluecloud looks like he does. for him to be grey, cielo would need to be a dilute kitty but he isn't ;w;

as i said though, if you really want to keep his appearance as is thats fine! i want people to see my kitten suggestions as, well, suggestions rather than outright "you HAVE to do this" sort of thing...
(and if i'm being bothersome please say so. i'll refrain from being so picky in the future if its a problem)

For the other discussion..

Bluecloud would never want to be distant from her kits, and she might hold a liiiittle resentment towards Ice for that [not much, she loves Ice to death] but personally I think it'd be cool.

For the medicine cat thing, I like it!
No one really gave me a response when I brought it up, but I was hoping Sweetie could maybe be the med apprentice when she joins?
