Echoing what Forte said here - it's been a hot minute since I've been in a Pokemon rp, but I think I'll get burnt out really quickly if I have to rp gym battles for every trainer against Svein (especially if they're all in a row), so if we can think of any way to circumvent that I'd be glad to hear it.
Also depending on the role of the gym leaders, I might sign up a normal trainer too (: still undecided on that though.

I have no objections to everything you outlined! That all makes sense. (:
I especially like the idea of splitting gyms into trials vs. battles. Dio is so going to throw hands when he learns he's doing the trial instead of fighting his brother xD (Svein, probably: dude I just picked straws on who does what...)

Another suggestion for the gym battles: if the trainer fails to beat the gym leader for whatever reason, maybe they can choose whether or not to switch to the trial instead, as it may be easier for them?
Aaand another thing to think about maybe: we could impose a real-time time limit for the gym battle/trial order. Say the rper of whichever trainer is up next (whether they be first or a subsequent trainer) doesn't appear within, idk, 48 hours, they be moved to the back of the line instead. They'll still have a chance to do their gym battle/trial later, but pushed back due to their inactivity. That way we don't come to a deadlock where we're all just waiting for one person to go ahead.

I'm good with all that's been discussed - before we start, I especially think battles should be pre-discussed so there's no OOC salt and as little stalling as possible tbh. In regards to the gym challenge-battle idea, I think it's great! Personally, I (and Svein lol) won't care about the outcomes of the gym battles (since the trainers are meant to win in the end) but I do agree that some losses would be more realistic; at the very least, I'd appreciate if not every challenger swept through without losing a single Pokemon in the battles - that's when I start losing patience tbh.
I'll try to get a starter up later today for Svein, and I might take a few liberties on mentioning Saltrush City's layout/details/etc if that's okay! Nothing too outrageous or outstanding of course, I just wanted to mention as such since the city will definitely be in his narrative or thoughts at least once. /and Dio, he's going to tease Dio in his mind more than once, I can tell .

Ok lastly, I think I might sign up a trainer later today as well with Noivern as her main partner, since I don't expect Svein to realistically leave Saltrush City that often except when he needs to (aka the Nocturnia Team threat), so he'll probably end up being more minor after the first gym. If any other gym leaders want to be acquainted with him/his friend, I think he'd visit to watch their gym challenges, but probably not for all 8 gyms.

oop, I forgot one more clarifying question - will the gym leaders be allowed to determine the battle layout of their gym? Again nothing too outrageous here, I'm just thinking rn that Svein's battle layout would be 3v3 Singles (even if both trainers use teams of 6), switch battle style, and (possibly?) no Megas/Z-Moves/Gigantamax yet (for some trainers, I don't think his mega-evolving Gyarados would be very fair at this point), but Youta (for example) might have different rules.
