there’s a formal ball at the palace. most nobles have already been staying at the palace for a week, but some may have stayed at home longer and are just now arriving. they will mingle for a while, and then there will be a huge feast. at this feast, each competing noble lady will have thirty seconds to demonstrate their power and impress the queen and princess (who pick the winner)

the king has been dead for about a month after an assassination. tensions are high, as more than a few families are suspected to have been involved. the queen is serving as regent at the moment, until the prince is married.
