Name: Patient 2140, but primarily known as Melanie Cortav
Gender: Cisfemale - Preferred pronouns include she/her
Age: 21 years of age - chip makes her 30 intellectually
Species: Human/Cyborg
Skills: Due to having her chip put in recently, she has enhanced eyesight. Her chip
was designed to help her identify certain objects and species. With the chip, she's
basically a human dictionary, although with limits. Trying to track certain people or
learn classified things can give her headaches. Also if she asks too many questions for
the chip to look up, it can get overloaded and black out, making Melanie have to
reboot it. Her chip gives her access to most resources, like culture information and
language information. Just by reading the given, she can speak any language and
understand any culture about foreign visitors (alien/others)

Melanie grew up into a pretty good life until she got an eye disease. It was so rare that the doctors had no idea what to call it. Melanie was 16 at this time, which was a pretty young age to get sick. None of the doctors in her state could help her and her mother's hope was increasingly going down. Melanie was afraid she would never see anything ever again, until a top notch science academy contacted her. A few students there, brilliant ones, had been trying to come up with a new idea to help preserve the life on Earth. Melanie was the perfect test subject for it and the reward for her services would be great. Her mother let her be a test subject, in hopes that her sight would come back. Willingly, Melanie accepted their offer and moved to the academy. They did tests on her, including chemicals, radiation and then finally technology. They hadn't had the resources to make a Cyborg, but one scientist found a loop hole. He created a chip called A.R.B.U.S., which could not technically "heal" Melanie's condition, but instead become a substitute for it. The chip helped enhance her eyesight, adding a few more levels to it. Its minimum of view is 1 inch and the maximum of view is to at least 10 feet. By asking ARBUS, Melanie can identify an object that is hidden away,
as long as it shows some sign of existence. Say she sees something shiny in the distance and can't tell what it is, ARBUS will be able to identify the object. The reason why she's called Patient 2140 is because that was the year she was successfully "healed". The government noticed the project of the students and without her mom's consent, the government stole her and used her at their own advantage. They felt that the kind of technology that was in her chip, could help soldiers and possible missions to space. Melanie was assigned to go with ICARUS to space, just in case they met a few unexpected visitors (aliens/other life forms) and she had the ability to communicate/identify them.

I'm Only Human

Melanie is a reserved, shy girl. Most people, when they look at her white irises, think that she is just another "robot". In fact, she's probably even more human than most test subjects. Since she wasn't created as an Android, she still has human characteristics. Melanie feels, tastes, loves, cares, basically anything that a human can do. She is a very timid person, much like a stature of a deer. She doesn't like getting herself into bad situations, so instead of using her words, she stays quiet and sheltered. ARBUS has a personality of its own. It was created to guide Melanie and care for her as if it were a real person. Although the chip itself does not feel "real" emotion, but instead replicates it. Melanie doesn't necessarily like having ARBUS always around, but she is thankful for the "fake" guidance. She has trouble with making friends and trying to enjoy herself, but once she gets comfortable in her situation, she can let loose here and there. Melanie is known for her slight sarcasm, which she portrays to those who intrigue her. To the others, she just blends in as a normal person. Melanie enjoys reading and writing, although lately she hasn't had any muse to write. If she cares about someone, she will put her life on pause, or put it in jeopardy. She is deathly loyal to those who care about her and will do anything in her power to help. Melanie has learned to be much more mature than most people her age. She enjoys things that were in the past, although most things in the future intrigue her as well. It takes awhile to get to know Melanie thoroughly, but when you do, you won't regret it.
