Coyoteclaw is determined in all things, she wishes to do her best despite having been told that she wouldn't be. She lives up to her name, having the fierceness of heart like a coyote at night. She can also be strong willed. If she believes in something then she will fight for it. She genuinely cares about her friends and family, and has never once put another cat down for their flaws, in fact, she believes that the flaws are what makes a cat.

When Duckfeather discovered she was having kits, she was overwhelmed with excitement for both her and Cloudfur. She moved to the nursery as soon as she was unfit to do warrior duties and tended to her self more readily. Just before the birth of her kits, Cloudfur disappeared, and it was speculated that a Coyote had found and killed him. When only one kit was born with the coat color of coyote, Duckfeather saw it as a sign that Cloudfur had, indeed, been killed. She named the kit, Coyotekit. Though she cared deeply for her young one, she paid little to know attention to her, letting the other queens care for her. Coyotekit grew up trying to impress her mother on a constant basis. When she became a paw, she worked even harder, determined to become the best warrior. Duckfeather paid her little attention and avoided patrols or hunts with her daughter. Coyotepaw, feeling dejected, fell behind in her training. She found a unique difference in herself during her 3rd month as a paw. Her claws were longer and thicker than the average cats. She used this to her advantage hunting, and Duckfeather finally seemed intrigued by something her daughter had done. Coyotepaw was ecstatic to have her mothers attention and continued trying to impress her further. Her mother was killed not long after her discovery and the heartbroken Coyotepaw was made a warrior 1 moon after her mothers death. She earned the name Coyoteclaw for her fierce personality and her dangerous claws. She embraced the name, and tried to live up to it on a daily basis. When she was named mentor of Stonepaw, she knew she had finally proven herself, and if her mother and father were here, they would be proud. Unfortunately, her excitement was only half lived. At 8 moons, her apprentice had begun sneaking out at night to meet a lone cat of white fur. Coyoteclaw followed him one night, pacing close to the border as she watched him greet the strange male cat. She said nothing to him, choosing to bring it up after they had returned to the safety of camp, but Stonepaw was silenced before he could ever speak. A young coyote pup leapt from the bushes, springing on to Stonepaw. Stonepaw's life vanished before Coyoteclaw could even do anything. She tried to wake up, but nothing worked. Eventually she dragged his body back to camp and told Scorchstar of the whole ordeal. She felt lost until moons later she was granted a second chance when she became mentor of Flarepaw. She has always been hopeful and strong willed but even the best of them have their moments. Her past has made her stronger and her heart is set on the future.
