➤ Bird thinks about those last days
almost every time she closes her eyes. the waves
still pull sand from beneath her paws, the breeze
still knots her fur with salt. and yet, everything is
different. she never thought there would be
sunrises and sunsets without the ever-present
chattering from her family. her days' starts and
ends are certainly still filled with chatter, but
it's... different. Bird isn't sure if the
melancholy is regretful or bittersweet, Bird is
not sure of anything.

it has been 6 moons since she joined the tribe.
they found her matted, white body sunken in
hunger and wedged between driftwood. her
grief wracked her bones together until she
was as empty as the shells once plucked from
hungry beaks. they had been wrong, she could
not care for herself. she could hardly catch anything
on her own, and she could not find shelter that
would last the night (evident from quite a few
mornings waking in salty sea water). and yet -
it was enough for the cats of the tribe.
she was enough. she is, enough
