I actually have a little backstory for her somewhere c: she's my baby xD anyone wanna read? I wrote it up when I asked someone to check if she was a well-rounded character.

Born to a very wealthy family in Verbroné, Elyana was never meant to marry into the royal family. But there was no marriage in sight for the king, for there were no kingdoms with a princess of the right age. As such, the marriage was arranged and Elyana become a princess at the age of fourteen. As the child of a noble, she was brought up with education and found herself knee-deep in history books, reading about previous wars, previous kings and queens, anything and everything. The fact that the elves were seemingly invincible, with very few wars being won by the humans...... it drove her crazy. Elves were harder to kill than humans too, and her heart ached to think of all the people who had died, some of which were guaranteed to be her ancestors.

So when Elyana married, she was quick to make sure her new husband knew her views. He accepted them, though he did not share them. It did not help that over the years, while she was growing up, rogue elves attacked the kingdom many time for no apparent reason. Elyana lost her father in one of those attacks, as well as her cousin, whom lived with them since the death of his mother to childbed fever. Petyr was young, only a child, and Elyana felt a maternal protection towards the boy. He was slaughtered in front of her eyes.

Upon her joint coronation with her husband, Elyana was quick to stamp her foot down, reorganizing the army, making sure she had men that together, were the best of the best with every weapon under the sun. She had trebuchets made in advance, she had the smiths working hard day and night to make a surplus of weapon. Elyana was not planning on war to begin with, only working on having things ready and prepared should war come to them. She searched for spellcasters, for she was unable to cast them herself.

But everything went down the drain when reports came in of far-flung villages being attacked once more, of pregnant women and children being killed in their beds. No one knew if the rumours were true, but it brought back memories. For weeks Elyana suffered from reoccurring nightmares and then she took action, striking back. From there the was escalated at terrifying speeds and now the Queen finds herself taking over the role that should be the king's.

As I'm sure you can gather, she's self-confident, believing in herself and what she is doing is right, not just for herself, but for her people too. This isn't about her revenge, though that does play an important part; it's about giving her people that chance to get their revenge. Outspoken and a public figure, everyone knows her views on the elves. She will rant and rage about them given the chance. With the war drawing closer to the capital, Elyana wishes to know anything and everything about the enemies' movements, about how her men are preparing. It frustrates her that, as a woman, she should be nothing but a brood mare, she certainly shouldn't be the figurehead of this war and she cannot ride out and take part. The most she can do is watch from the battlements and hope. She is very talkative, as a woman and as of herself. She knows that the elves know who she is and frankly, she does not care. Let them do their best, she thinks very often. Elyana possesses the ability to honey her words, she can twist and manipulate others.
