Muse A is having their first Christmas alone in their small apartment. Their neighbor, Muse B, has been in the spirit since November, decking the halls, playing seasonal music and wishing everyone they come across ‘happy holidays.’ For reasons unknown to Muse B, Muse A seems like nothing more than a miserable Scrooge, and they make it their Christmas mission to pass a little of their enthusiasm to Muse A.

It starts small, Muse B hanging a wreath on the door of Muse A’s apartment. Muse A promptly takes it down, having no idea that Muse B is the culprit. The next day it’s a plate of homemade cookies, and the following it’s a small snow globe.

The pair carry on like this until Christmas Eve, Muse B leaving Muse A little tokens of the holiday, and Muse A tossing the kind gestures into a box to be forgotten. Tonight though, Muse B is ready to kick it into high gear, presenting themselves at Muse A’s door with a drink for them to share.

Muse A sighs and invites Muse B inside. Upon seeing the box containing all the Christmas cheer they tried to deliver, Muse B quietly asks for an explanation. After some small talk, Muse A finally opens up as to why it’s so hard for them to get in the spirit. Muse B listens to their story, the whole time pulling items out of the box and decorating Muse A’s apartment. When all is said and done, Muse A is truly grateful for Muse B’s efforts.

Muse A is upset when they discover that their pet has gotten out of the house somehow. Despite a frantic search of the immediate neighborhood, Muse A is unsuccessful at finding their beloved animal companion. With limited options, Muse A decides to post up flyers locally in the hopes that someone will find their lost pet and return them. Several miles away, Muse B hears something unusual when they’re taking out the garbage. It’s Muse A’s pet rustling around in an overturned trash can, looking for food. Muse B cautiously approaches the animal, looking for a name tag on their collar but it seems to have broken off. Despite not being the fondest of animals, Muse B decides to take the lost creature in while they figure out what they should do. Over the course of a few days, Muse B develops a soft spot for Muse A’s pet and Muse B actually considers keeping the animal. Muse A is devastated when their pet shows no signs of reappearing nearly a week after it’s gone missing, but thanks to an unrelated event that they’re invited to attend in Muse B’s neighborhood, Muse A encounters Muse B.

Muse A and Muse B are soulmates. They’ve grown up in the same city all of their lives and despite crossing paths several times, they have not met one another; they’ve continuously missed the other by a matter of seconds every time. One fateful morning, Muse A and Muse B happen to arrive in one another’s vicinity. Muse A spots Muse B from across the street just as Muse B is entering into the path of a speeding vehicle. Without thinking, Muse A rushes across the street and takes the brunt of the oncoming car to save Muse B’s life. Muse B is badly shaken from witnessing the accident and gets ushered away from Muse A before they can see the other’s face. Tragically, Muse A passes away while Muse B is being questioned by police. One week later, Muse B attends Muse A’s funeral to pay respects after learning their savior’s identity through the police report. When Muse B is about to leave the cemetery, they encounter someone who feels eerily familiar, though Muse B’s never seen them before. Muse A isn’t sure how it’s possible still, but they’re certain that they’ve been sent back to look after Muse B until Muse B draws their last breath. Muse A does their best to explain this to Muse B, who seems to be the only one who can hear or see them and their angelic set of wings.
