marisol aitana arisoto is many things. she's a high
school student. she's a new york city resident. she
is, quite possibly, the only eighteen-year-old ever
known without a drivers' license. and yeah, marisol
does moonlight as the hero-in-training amenazo, or
blue beetle's protégé. after an incident in her high
school's robotics lab, where she spent most of her
time, marisol ended up with an alien scarab fused
to her spine. and now - now she's got crazy powers
that involve armor coming out of her spine, crime
fighting, and a whole lot of pain [if you think me-
tal being torn from bone is painless, you're crazy].
marisol was selected as the other co-leader, along
with iron man's protégé, due mainly to her tenta-
tive attitude and cautious nature. marisol cancels
out much of her counterpart's reckless actions. in
general, she's the thing that keeps the more logi-
cal members of the team sane. however, marisol
is just as held back by her judicious choices as she
is helped: when in a situation of high emotion, she
freezes up, terrified of making the wrong choice.

dawson's not exactly your average superhero-in-
training. his parents are alive. he wasn't bitten by
a radioactive armadillo. there is not much trauma
in his past [unless you count that one time the ice
cream fell off his cone]. yet dawson still ended up
as a hero hopeful - mentored by hawkeye, no less.
why? the reason's pretty simple: he truly wants to
help people. dawson is perfectly aware of the stig-
ma that comes from having skin like his. he wants
to change the world for the better and to show ex-
actly what he's capable of. and instead of turning
into some sort of vigilante, he went the rarely im-
plemented official route, training until his aim be-
came impeccable. then all he did was fill out some
paperwork, and that was that. at the academy he
caught the eye of kate bishop, who talked to clint
barton, and presto! he had an actual mentor. with
the help of the two hawkeyes dawson quickly sur-
passed his peers. now the eighteen-year-old is a
model student, loyal to the good guys - even if he
sometimes has trouble knowing which side that is.

it was pilar's intelligence that allowed her to rise through the ranks of the legion, nothing else. her twin might be a combatant, more into competition and fighting; pilar is not. however, she proved herself early on with her ability to develop battle strategies on the fly. she's aware of people's strengths and can magnify them. equally importantly, pilar knows someone's weakness, and how best to use it against them. maybe it is this that makes her so passive-aggressive: while pilar lacks the confidence and physicality to defend her point to others, rest assured that if you cross her, you will eventually pay. pilar backs down quickly from confrontation but isn't quick to change her mind - she'll just pretend to acknowledge another's point. more often than not, her intellectual mind reigns over others, but when it doesn't, pilar's close-mindedness leads to her own detriment. pilar isn't close to very many people, perhaps because she won't hesitate to stab an acquaintance in the back to further her own ends. however, if you are her friend, then she'll hesitate before taking such a course of action. pilar values knowledge and learning over all else - perhaps unexpectedly, seeing as her mother is the god of war, but she gets that war is impossible without intelligence. she's in the third cohort and is one of the centurions' main advisers.

tarquin macarthur is the sixth-year ravenclaw prefect.
he comes from a wizarding family: his father is a muggle-
born wizard, while his mother is a half-blood. tar is the
oldest of three siblings. his younger sisters are both en-
rolled in hogwarts; one is a fifth year, while the other is
a third year. both of them are in gryffindor, like his pa-
rents were. tar is the only one in his family to attend hog-
warts and not be in the courageous house. while in other
families, tar might be branded as a coward, his parents
did no such thing; rather, they appreciated their son's in-
telligence, and were thrilled when he received the letter
proclaiming him prefect. in general, tar tries to stay out
of inter-house drama. unfortunately for him, as prefect,
he's inevitably caught up in it; while mostly successful in
his efforts to stick with his numerous friends and avoid
the worst of it, he sometimes ends up right in the middle
of conflicts like this one. the inter-house prefect war will
test tar's patience and generally friendly attitude. and be-
cause he's a ravenclaw, tar worries that it might end up
interfering with his studies. if anything in this crazy war
ends up setting tar off, it'll be just that - interruption of
his studies and his fast track to a job in the ministry. if
that ends up on the line, his house loyalty will be dubious
at best. as a true ravenclaw, knowledge comes first.
