Leafstar watched Bounce intensely as she left, the pit in her stomach only growing. The she-cat herself probably wasn't a threat to the clan, Leafstar thought; she didn't seem to know, anyways. But how does she know of the clan? a small voice in the back of her head whispered. And why is she so eager to join us when she doesn't even know if it IS safe for her unborn kits? Leafstar squeezed her eyes shut, taking in a deep breath and shivering as she let it out. She would accept Bounce into the clan, she decided, but she would not trust her. Not in the least.

Leafstar definitely knew, however, that Redstrike knew of it. She had been the one to tell him; before that, she had been the only one to know. Her heart ached as she thought of her former best friend and mate; she had to speak to him about it. He deserved to know, especially after how much she had hurt him. Of course, it would only really make him hate Bounce, but Leafstar knew that she could convince him to not openly try to run the pregnant she-cat out of the clan. Leafstar paused for a moment, gathering her thoughts, before she padded out of the den. It wasn't ever hard to find Redstrike; her eyes always found him first, and it had been that way for a long time.
"Redstrike," she called, managing to keep her voice neutral, but she couldn't quite erase the panic from her face. Cats who weren't so attuned to her expressions might not notice it; Redstrike definitely would. She gestured toward her den with her tail when his eyes found her. Then, she padded back in and closed her eyes as she waited.

Frostfire rolled her eyes as Redstrike turned away from her, clearly assuming that he had gotten some major point across to her. "I expected that you would have already taught your son to be slightly more mature than a four-moon-old kit, but you clearly haven't. And yes, there are other forms of punishment, but this is the way that I chose, and I am not sorry, Redstrike. Your opinion is not the one that matters to me." she called after him, flicking her tail. That wasn't necessarily true; of course Redstrike's opinions mattered to her, as Foxpaw was his son, but she was far too stubborn to ever even admit it to herself. Leafstar's opinion meant more to her- the she-cat was her mentor, leader, and idol -so she used that to justify what she'd said. If Leafstar had said any of what Redstrike said, she probably would have rushed to apologize, something she wouldn't do for any other cat. She also wanted Foxpaw's approval, but the tom wouldn't learn to appreciate her until much later, so she had to wait for that.

Suddenly remembering Lionpaw, she turned back to the apprentice and looked him over; he wore a bit of a grin on his face that disappeared the instant she looked at it. His eyes widened, making it obvious that he expected her to yell at him as well. Good, she thought.
"Lionpaw, go and ask Stormstrike if he would like to do a double-training session on tracking," she meowed; the orange tabby apprentice looked relieved as he said a quick 'sure' and hurried off in Stormstrike's direction.

Sighing, she turned back to Foxpaw, taking in his crestfallen expression. He clearly realized that what he had done was wrong. Maybe she shouldn't have told him he was worthless- that was a lie -but she could tell from the look on his face that it had had the effect that she'd wanted and that he probably wouldn't ever do what he did again, which had been the whole point. "You're not worthless, Foxpaw. That's not what I meant. Every cat has their value, and because I believe your value is more than what many other cats possess, I expect much, much more than what you gave me today. For now, I won't give you any other punishment. However, if you ever do something like that again, you're getting a moons' worth of taking care of the elders alone: applying mouse bile, changing bedding, and fetching fresh-kill. That would be on top of training, and if you think you can do it when you're about to become a warrior, it will carry over into when you become a warrior. Do you understand?" she asked in a level tone. Frostfire had very clearly calmed down since she'd yelled at the tom.

Lionpaw had been at the entrance to the clan, watching as Frostfire went completely crazy on Foxpaw. He wanted to both laugh at his brother and say burrrn and to just run away. When Redstrike came, he shrunk back a little further, knowing a fight was coming between the two; both were endlessly stubborn and easy to start fights with, and when they faced off, Lionpaw couldn't decide who had the better arguments. His father didn't really know much other than the fact that Frostfire had completely embarrassed Foxpaw in front of the entire clan, so he really didn't know what exactly he was defending, and Lionpaw would personally much rather just be momentarily embarrassed than receive tons of extra work in punishment. Actually, the work would be more embarrassing; it would last a lot longer than a lecture. However, Frostfire had been pretty harsh, so it wasn't like she didn't deserve what Redstrike had said to her. Overall, Lionpaw would probably have to side with his father simply because he didn't like the way Foxpaw's face had fallen, either.

It'll be a pretty great story later, though, he thought, grinning a little bit before he realized Frostfire was looking directly at him. He wiped it off his face as quickly as he could, but from the Really? face she gave him, it was clear that she had noticed it. Aw man, don't tell me I'm going to be yelled at too, he thought, his eyes widening, but she simply told him to go ask his mentor if a double training session would be okay.
"Sure," he meowed quickly before he padded away from the she-cat, walking a little faster than usual. He spotted his mentor resting on a rock in the sun and trotted over to him, dipping his head a little bit as he reached him. "Frostfire wants to know if a double training session on tracking would be okay," he meowed, looking up at Stormstrike. He'd been having hunting lessons for the past two moons, so a lesson completely devoted to tracking wouldn't take them too off-track.

foxpaw watched his father turn away, clearly sick of arguing with the she-cat. however, out of the corner of his eye, foxpaw saw his father reluctantly disappear into leafstar's den. as much as he wanted to know why, there were more important things for foxpaw to do. an apology was in order. "i'm sorry, frostfire; i let my feelings get the better of me today. i need to realise that i'm not a kit anymore; i'm an apprentice, and one day, i'll be a warrior, just like you." his posture slowly moved from drooping, back into it's original position. "i promise, from now on, i will try my absolute hardest to give you my full attention when training, so i can become half the warrior that you are," foxpaw mewed, a soft smile edging onto his face. "i do understand, frostfire," foxpaw added, letting his chest yet again puff out. he knew he'd done wrong, he'd suffered the consequences, and now, he was ready to move on and get into real training. he waited beside frostfire for his brother to come back, deciding to sit down. the tom wrapped his fluffy tail over his paws, letting out a small sigh.

redstrike flicked his ears at the sound of his name being called, pelt prickling as he realised the owner of the voice was leafstar. he lifted his dark green gaze onto the leader, instantly seeing worry and panic across her pretty features. what is it now, redstrike thought gruffly. he genuinely wanted to know why the she-cat was in such a state, but since he was still fired up from frostfire, it made it hard for him to show his feelings. the ginger tom padded quickly across camp, tail thrashing now toned down to a mild flicking. it didn't take long for the warrior to get across camp; his gigantic legs made it seem like with each stride, he was covering lengths up to the size of a badger. as he got closer to the she-cat, his legs seemed to get heavier, as if dragging him down. how on earth was he to going to have a civilised discussion with leafstar if he could barely even look at her now? for four moons, the tom had managed to avoid it, but on this particular day, the situation seemed unavoidable. redstrike hadn't seen her look so shocked in a long time. leafstar gave a flick of her tail and disappeared into her den, inviting him in with her.
but the tom could not bring himself to do it. every bone in his body was becoming frozen solid, his muscles becoming heavier than tree trunks. the tom was struggling just to do the simple task of walking into a den? what in the name of starclan had gotten into him?
finally, after a long, deep breath, redstrike pushed himself into leafstar's den, swallowing hard. the whole den smelled of her, that sweet earthy scent that he had come to love, but now left a bitter taste on his tongue. he wanted to love it again, wanted to breath it in every second of every day, but it wasn't that easy anymore. "what's wrong?" redstrike meowed, actually trying to leave emotion out of his tone, when usually, he had to try to put emotion into it.

Working on what you're weak at will make you a better warrior. Stronger," Nightfrost gave a nod of approval to her apprentice, but kept her face neutral. She picked up the pace a little bit, not even stopping at the commotion that had been caused by an apparent rogue entering the camp. She was scrawny, and looked to be pregnant. Nightfrost let out an irritated his of annoyance under her breath. Leafstar is a fool if she lets a rogue join the clan for protection. Can't she see we're being used? If I were leader… Nightfrost trailed off, focusing on the task at hand. She only stopped when she reached the outskirts of the camp, an area the apprentice's and their mentors used for training. She waited for her apprentice to catch up before she continued.

"I'm going to show you a new battle move today, Blackpaw. One I think your agility would give you the upper hand." Nightfrost padded over to a large boulder about 3 fox-lengths away. "Watch me, it's actually a move any simpleton would get." Nightfrost padded away from the boulder twenty fox-lengths, and then turned to face it. Without hesitation, she took off at a dead sprint strait towards it. She didn't slow her pace, and just when it seemed that she would crash into the boulder and injure herself, she placed her front paws on the boulder and used her momentum to turn her sharply to the left. She landed perfectly on all fours, and then started clawing and batting at the empty space she had been moments before. When the demonstration was complete, she turned to Blackpaw. "This move is for when you have an assailant who is larger than you giving chase. Hopefully they will crash into the object of your choice, leaving them dazed. Then get in a few quick swipes to the ear, and leave them yowling for their mommies." Nightfrost let a devious smirk cross her face as she spoke. "I've done this move a few times on some big klutzy cats, and their stunned faces are almost as great as letting them have it."

Nightfrost took a few steps back to clear the area, and started grooming herself. After several moments of silence, when she realized her apprentice hadn't started the move yet, she raised her head slowly, narrowing her eyes. "Get on with it, then."

It's probably nothing, Rosepaw thought. Even if it is, it's none of my business… She trailed off, Tigerstep's irritated reply cutting into her thoughts. She was silent then, suddenly not really wanting to talk to her mentor for fear of making him angry. After several more moments of silence, Tigerstep continued his task, dragging the seemingly finished nest over by Rosepaw's. It wasn't particularly stunning, in fact, it was quite the opposite. A few stray strands of moss and twigs protruded from the nest, and although it looked comfortable, it wasn't going to win a mouse for most exquisite. Rosepaw was slightly surprised when her mentor turned to her with an unreadable expression. It was almost a scary look, but Rosepaw had seen it before so it wasn't anything new. It was the look he gave Rosepaw when he suspected she may be up to something. Maybe she was.

"Rosepaw. Don't pry into Bounce's past," His voice rang through his ears. It was low, and he glanced at the den as if making sure no other cat would hear. "I see that you like her," -Another glance at the den entrance-, "You should keep it that way." Several moments passed, and Rosepaw was speechless. Tigerstep turned back towards the herbs she hadn't finished putting away, and started organizing them. He mumbled something Rosepaw couldn't make out under his breath. Rosepaw's neck fur startled to bristle slightly with apprehension, but she settled it immediately before Tigerstep noticed. "You should keep it that way…" Tigerstep's last words rang through her ears. What the heck did that mean? Was he implying that learning about Bounce's past would make her like the queen less? That wasn't in Rosepaw's character, and Tigerstep knew that. Something was up. Why would Tigerstep not want Rosepaw to quench her curiosity? Unless Bounce's past and Tigerstep's were linked somehow… "Okay, Tigerstep," She said after several moments of silence.

A soft voice made Rosepaw turn her head to the den entrance, and she couldn't help but smile and shoot to her paws at Bounce's entrance. "Bounce! You get to sleep by me," Rosepaw mewed, walking over to the she-cat and rubbing her head on the queen's shoulder with a purr. She retreated back to his nest and nodded to Bounce's own nest. "Welcome to the clan!" She mewed enthusiastically, but her and Tigerstep's conversation hadn't quite settled in her yet. If Tigerstep didn't want Rosepaw to know about Bounce's past, that only made the black she-cat cat want to know more. She didn't want to disobey Tigerstep, but she did know the perfect cat to ask…

Oddpaw followed his mentor happily, letting the sun soak into his fur. Today was a good day for him, and it would be even better after his training session. The white tom followed his mentor, already having a good idea where they were going. Frostfire was yelling at Foxpaw about something, but Oddpaw didn't particularly care to stop and see what was up. Ahead of them, Oddpaw could see a small clearing with a sparse amount of trees surrounding them. The perfect place for training. After the two slowed to a stop, and Fawndapple moved to his side, he thought it was appropriate to ask what was going to be the main focus of this training session."So wha-" Oddpaw's question turned into a startled yelp as Fawndapple turned and lunged at him. His eyes were wide with surprise as his mentor questioned him on what he should do. He mumbled to himself, not believing that he'd just let that happen. An apprentice who was almost old enough to be a warrior should always be on his paws. Luckily for Oddpaw, Fawndapple had done this before and he knew the perfect answer.

Swiftly, before Fawndapple could try anything else, Oddpaw put his back legs right on the senior warrior's stomach, claws sheathed, and pushed back with all his might. Since his mentor was holding his shoulders down, it allowed him to put more force into the kick. When he felt the weight from his shoulders disappear, he quickly rolled a fox-length to his left and lowered himself into a battle stance, ready to attack again. "That?" Oddpaw asked, not relaxing from his position. Fawndapple was a tricky mentor sometimes, she would often display sporadic bursts of apprenticeship herself, attacking him and quizzing him at random times.

Leafstar slowly opened her eyes when Redstrike entered her den, immediately noticing how stiff and uncomfortable he was. Knowing what she was about to tell him, it sent a whole new wave of guilt through her. It seemed like no matter what she did, she was always pushing the tom further and further away from her, and it physically hurt. Taking a deep breath, she stood up and looked at him. "Please, please try not to get... really angry," she whispered, moons and sadness written all over her face. "I don't trust that Bounce has told me everything she knows about it, but there's always the chance that she has, so I can't afford an outbreak; it could be lethal to the order of the clan. You're just going to have to silently imagine skinning me or her or whoever you decide to be mad at. I'm sorry,"

The 'I'm sorry' was barely a breath, just distinct enough as her voice cracked on 'sorry' to be made out as an apology. Leafstar suddenly found she couldn't look at Redstrike anymore. Because she was asking even more from this tom, who had never told her anything but the truth, who had loved her and trusted her to be completely and fully honest with him, who she had lied to forever, who had every right to never want to talk to her again. Ever. She knew with complete certainty that that had been his plan, but he found it hard not to also want her. Leafstar had to try very, very hard not to let a sob escape her lips as she stared at her paws. Maybe now, finally, she would give him that last little push he would need to just forget about her. "Redstrike... Bounce's father is Thistle." Leafstar said it quietly, but it had the same effect as if she'd just screamed; a long, resounding silence followed, carrying on it every implication that that one sentence held.

Frostfire smiled a little bit as Foxpaw slowly returned to his normal self as he talked, clearly and quickly recovering from being yelled at. And from what he said, the point had come across: she would not tolerate disrespect. Even if he had to fake it- and even if he was faking it -Frostfire couldn't help but feel a major surge of pride for Foxpaw's effort to understand her. See? she thought, thinking of Redstrike and how he seemed to think she had just totally crushed Foxpaw and everything he stood for. "It's really not 'one day' anymore," Frostfire meowed, looking at Foxpaw. "Your warrior ceremony is really only four moons from now. It might seem like a long time to you- that's half your life -but it'll go much more quickly than you're expecting it to. And if I have anything to do with it, you'll turn out to be twice the warrior I am."

Frostfire really believed that her apprentice, though immature at times, could turn out to be the clan's next greatest warrior; he was a hard worker, and he clearly always wanted to do and say the right things. He was also clearly naturally talented, as she'd noticed during their training sessions. Maybe, with just a little more training, the clan as a whole would begin to notice him; for the time being, they all still saw little and cute, but that would change.

crowfur nodded, quickly running through all the other places mousefur could've been. if she wasn't in the camp, she certainly must have been out hunting, or on a border patrol of sorts. a light snort exited the tom's nose. if he were mousefur, he would've told his apprentice that he went out instead of leaving the cat to wander about the camp- bored out of her mind. his ear twitched at the sound of frostfire and redstrike. though his gaze only flicked towards the two momentarily. knowing frost fire, he could easily assume the two were quarreling about foxpaw. though he could understand her point of view, he always thought the warrior treated her apprentice a bit harshly at times.
As emberpaw responded to his proposal, a partial smirk emerged on crowfur's face. never before had he really interacted with an apprentice before- and the thought of it made him a bit excited. teaching the skills passed from his mentor down to him, along with a few tricks he had learned along the way would be interesting to teach emberpaw. as the apprentice stood, throwing out the idea of hunting a squirrel he laughed. "i guess i could teach you a bit about hunting a squirrel." he responded, rising to his paws as emberpaw begun heading to the camp entrance. he could almost feel the excitement beaming from her, which in turn made him feel a small level of excitement. though he didn't often grow happy over simple things like hunting, teaching another to hunt a certain creature appealed to him. as he followed after the apprentice, he wondered for a brief moment what it would be like if he had an apprentice of his own. though having a young cat barely out of kit hood following him around everywhere may be a bit annoying, he wondered if someday the leader would choose him to teach a younger member of the clan.

Bounce had not realized how tired she was until she was reminded about sleep. Her eyes traveled to the haphazardly built nest, but it looked so inviting. She figured most of them had had a long day, including herself. She was more than ready for sleep. "Thank you," she murmured to Tigerstep, making her way over to the nest he had indicated. She blinked, her eyes getting used to the dark as the sun quickly sank below the horizon.

She paused when Rosepaw spoke and smiled brightly. "Thank you, Rosepaw," she said softly. "Leafstar was acting rather strange," she pointed out, mostly to herself, then shook her head in an attempt to clear it. "I hope I do get to stay. Hopefully she won't change her mind in the morning." She flashed the apprentice a reassuring smile before settling into her nest. She jerked as a twig poked her side and shuffled a bit to get more comfy.

He had always been a horrendous fisher, never able to catch a single thing. His regular forest hunting skills made up for the skills he lacked in though. “That is very true.” He chuckled. “I don’t think my future apprentice needs to learn how to fall un-gracefully into a river.” A small purr rose up from his chest out of amusement- He tend to purr a lot when he was in a good mood. “Just give her some space and time.” He suggested. “A clan isn’t built in a day, nor is trust or friendship.” His mentor always used to teach him that whenever he would get frustrated at his lack of ability to get a skill down pat. His mentor had shaped him into what he was today- and he was very thankful for it.

when leafstar's first words were 'please, try not to be angry, redstrike felt his ears burn. he was redstrike, for starclan's sake; he would get angry over something as small as a burr in his pelt. the tom immediately, despite the blank look upon his features, felt a worry of his own creep over his ginger pelt, like a deadly spider. the leader began babbling aimlessly about the new she-cat, bounce, but redstrike struggled to absorb her words. i knew there was something about that she-cat, the warrior thought crossly. but her last words, her apology to him seemed so frail and hoarse, like she struggled to let the words out. as his ex-mate lowered her head, it took all of the power in him not to rest his tail over her shoulders, to wrap himself around her and say it was okay. there was a reason he couldn't; redstrike couldn't bring himself to break that wall that had been built between them. "redstrike... bounce's father is thistle." all of a sudden the cold statue that was redstrike was instantly torn down; those five little words had the ability to crush his hard gaze and his clenched jaw. the tom drooped his strong shoulders, and felt a mixture of feelings wash over his ginger pelt. "but... how..." the warrior stammered, eyes widening. "no, no, no..." there was no way this was possible. thistle was not bounces' father. he couldn't be.
redstrike could not say anymore. for once in his life, all of his anger had been washed away, but not for the better. the tom stared wide-eyed at the leader, mouth still wide open in shock. he could not bring himself to do anything more. but, as if on cue, all of the toms anger came seeping back into his pelt, like a match to a piece of wood. his flame was coming back, and it was coming back fast. "i want her out of this clan, leafstar. i'd rather have her and all of those kits to die than to have to put up with knowing who she was." although his voice was a cold growl, he managed to keep it flat and quiet, eyes boring into the she-cat's skull. he had nothing more to say. the tom lifted himself from the den, and walked out, face expressionless once again.

('Tis fine, no worries!)

Crookedtail
| Warrior | She-cat | 28 moons | Apprentice: Fernpaw | No crush; open | Location: Camp | tags; Ripplebreeze |

Crookedtail listened to Ripplebreeze as he spoke, purring softly herself as she recalled once watching the young tom fall into the river while she was on a border patrol. However, her eyes trailed over to the loner that soon went in Leafstar's den, and before long was out and inside the medicine cat's den. With narrow eyes, Crookedtail took notice of what was happening, including the fact that Redstrike then walked over inside the leader's den. I wonder what that's all about... she thought to herself, the tip of her tail flicking back and forth as her brain went over the various possible scenarios of what had happened in the leader's den. The loner hadn't been sent away, which likely meant that Leafstar hadn't told her to leave... which either meant she would leave in the morning, she would stay for a while and then leave, or she would stay in the clan.

"Those are wise words. I believe Falconclaw used to say that," she pointed out as she remembered the strong, brave warrior. "I'll see if I can crack that shell open sometime... and possibly sniff around the newcomer tomorrow. I'm curious to what her story is..." she added in, at first referring to Jinxshade. Quietly, Crookedtail stood up and arched her back, stretching her muscles before sitting back down again. "I've got some apprentices gathering moss for the elders. Would you like to go for a walk before it gets too dark?" she offered suddenly. She realized that those words hadn't really processed before leaving her lips, but she didn't feel like taking them back either.

Ripplebreeze was very impressed at his fellow warriors distinct memory of his mentor. It made him warm on the inside knowing that it wasn't only just him that appreciated Falconclaw's wisdom. When his mentor passed, he was heart broken. But non the less he got over it. "Yes, he always used to tell me that when I got frustrated." He chuckled, remembering multiple occasions when he had a hard time completing a task. When she brought up the loner, he couldn't help but move his gaze over to her. "Yes indeed... I tried introducing myself but It seems like Tigerstep and Leafstar are trying to keep a muzzle on the situation." His tail flicked back and forth with curiously and his mind buzzed with questions. Where was she from? Why'd she join the clan? Who is she? But those questions would be answered another day, for now he was stuck just wondering. At the offer of going for a walk, Ripplebreeze clenched the muscle in his legs and rose. "Yes, I would love to." He purred blinking his eyes slowly and turning to face Crookedtail. "After you." He dipped his head, telling her to lead the way.
