Crookedtail
| Warrior | She-cat | 28 moons | Apprentice: Fernpaw | No crush; open | Location: Camp | tags; Jinxshade, open |

Crookedtail blinked when she saw Jinxshade back away from the touch of her tail and fluff up her fur aggressively. "There's no need to get your tail in a bunch," she told Jinxshade as she watched the she-cat stand up. She flattened her ears slightly at her sarcastic words, trying to remind herself that the young warrior meant no harm. At least, hopefully she meant no harm. If Jinxshade meant harm, then that would make it tougher for her to ever get along with her clanmates. It was pretty obvious that no cat got along with her, given her attitude and snarky remarks. How did she ever manage to get Leafstar to accept her into the clan? she thought as she fluffed up her fur defensively. "Hey, I'm just trying to be nice," she added before the she-cat stalked away. Maybe some cat would be able to break that emotional shield. Maybe. Crookedtail, for now, had enough of the dark she-cat.

A soft sigh escaped Crookedtail as she watched Jinxshade leave. Pushing thought about the grumpy warrior aside, she leaned down and smoothed her chest fur. There was an annoying little piece of gray fur sticking out. There we go, much better, she told herself before glancing over at Ripplebreeze. How did he always manage to be in a good mood?

As soon as Ripplebreeze seemed to join the small group of cats containing Leafstar, Tigerstep and the loner, it dispersed into separate pockets. Leafstar and the loner went towards her den while Tigerstep went towards his own medicine den. Not exactly the warm conversation he had hoped to experience. Despite the lack of conversation he continued to keep up his friendly mood, glancing around the camp. Just in time as well to see Jinxshade storming off from a confused Crookedtail. In one quick deciding moment he changed direction towards the she-cat. "Good morning Crookedtail." He dipped his head in respect to his fellow warrior. "Mind If I join you?" He questioned tilting his head to one side. Of course he didn't want to just intrude on her moment of silence, so that is why he asked- he always wanted to use the best manners possible.

Crookedtail
| Warrior | She-cat | 28 moons | Apprentice: Fernpaw | No crush; open | Location: Camp | tags; Ripplebreeze |

Crookedtail felt slightly flustered when Ripplebreeze caught her gaze and seemed to be walking straight over to her. Getting caught staring at a cat and having them notice that was definitely one of the top most embarrassing things that could happen to a cat--especially a warrior. However, there was no need in hiding that now, since the tabby tom was already heading over. Crookedtail smoothed out her fur once more, having noticed it puff up a bit when Ripplebreeze walked over.

"Good morning, Ripplebreeze," the gray she-cat replied with a flick of her ear. The tom seemed to have possibly noticed that Jinxshade had been here a while ago, giving he asked if Crookedtail minded company. She wasn't particularly doing anything other than sitting there in confusion. Earlier she had gone out and trained with Fernpaw, which turned out to be a good training session. Fernpaw just needed to work on her focus a bit more, but she was a fast learner, and seemed eager to please her mentor. Of course, Crookedtail loved this. She absolutely adored how much her apprentice respected her and seemed to want to make her proud.

It took a moment for Crookedtail to remember that Ripplebreeze was there, asking if she could be joined. As soon as she realized he was still standing there, waiting for an answer, she dipped her head in apology. "Sorry, I was just thinking about Fernpaw. She's a good apprentice," she explained, not wanting the tom to feel like he had been ignored. "I don't mind at all."

    crowfur
    32 moons
    tom
    tags; emberpaw

crowfur had glanced back towards the newcomer as emberpaw responded to his question. his gaze followed she she-cat as she made her way towards leafstar's den, along with the leader herself. his gaze then shifted back to emberpaw, yet his thoughts were elsewhere for a brief moment. what made tigerstep and rosepaw deice to bring this cat back to camp? yes, she was expecting, but why would they want to infect the clan with loner blood? the tom grew frustrated at these thoughts quite quickly. it may have been visible to others of this frustration, for the tom begun to violently lash his tail back and fourth. it was then when he realized emberpaw was still there, and had apparently asked him a question. shaking his head a bit, he responded, "sorry emberpaw, but i haven't. perhaps she went out hunting this morning, or on a patrol. have you checked the warriors den?"
after speaking, the tom allowed his thoughts to drift back to the newcomer once again. he found himself glancing back towards leafstar's den to see if they had emerged, yet seemingly they hadn't. once again shaking his head, he focused back on emberpaw, awaiting a reply. it was then when he realized she seemed to have a bored expression on her face- which he assumed to be associated with mousefur unable to be found- leaving her unable to be trained at the moment. a thought struck him at that moment, causing him to speak. "otherwise if you cannot find her, i suppose i could take you to go hunting or something. i don't think she would mind all that much. maybe then we could try to find her as well; if she did go out on her own."

It seemed as if Crookedtail became deep in thought as he asked if he could join her- maybe she was just too busy with herself to want some actually company? But then she snapped out of the trance that had fixed her away from their conversation. Apparently she had been thinking about her apprentice- quite random. Either way he took a seat beside the she-cat when she accepted his offer for company. "Yes, I have always wanted an apprentice." He began, glancing across the camp and the smaller bodies of fluff that galloped around full of energy. He remembered when he was a little apprentice. Always looking up to his mentor. "I remember those days, I can replay them vividly in my head." A small purr crept up into his throat at the warming memories of his paw-hood. But then the memory of his deceased mother flashed through his mind, making his face cringe just the slightest bit. He managed to swipe the expression off rather quickly, replacing it that of his friendly one.

Crookedtail
| Warrior | She-cat | 28 moons | Apprentice: Fernpaw | No crush; open | Location: Camp | tags; Ripplebreeze |

Crookedtail felt sympathy for the silver tabby tom as he mentioned that he has always wanted an apprentice. She followed his gaze towards the 'paws of the clan and then returned her attention to him. "I got lucky to have been picked," she meowed softly, "I'm sure that you'll get an apprentice soon enough. Surely kits will be due at some point?" That was a guess, although it would be true if Leafstar accepted the loner into the clan. "It looks like the loner that's talking to Leafstar is expecting kits. If she joins Stoneclan, then they will eventually need mentors," she offered kindly.

The moment that Ripplebreeze cringed, Crookedtail had been paying close attention. It was almost a flicker, however, and she wasn't sure what the tom was remembering. She wasn't sure what it could be, given that the warrior seemed to tackle all obstacles with a smile and friendly attitude. "I don't think much of when I was an apprentice." Her voice seemed slightly nostalgic as she spoke, casting her gaze away from camp. "It brings back memories." Memories of training with her sister, Shortwhisker, came to mind. They had a close bond, mostly during their kit-hood, before Crookedtail's accident. Still, they would train with each other as apprentices, and they continued doing so until they were made warriors--and then Shortwhisker was taken by twolegs. A shiver ran over Crookedtail's pelt, making the fur rise briefly before she forced it back down.

Twitching her whiskers, Nightfrost was pleased with her apprentice's attitude. She walked by her apprentice for a few paw steps, "That's what I like to hear. Working on what you're weak at will make you a better warrior. Stronger," Nightfrost gave a nod of approval to her apprentice, but kept her face neutral. She picked up the pace a little bit, not even stopping at the commotion that had been caused by an apparent rogue entering the camp. She was scrawny, and looked to be pregnant. Nightfrost let out an irritated his of annoyance under her breath. Leafstar is a fool if she lets a rogue join the clan for protection. Can't she see we're being used? If I were leader… Nightfrost trailed off, focusing on the task at hand. She only stopped when she reached the outskirts of the camp, an area the apprentice's and their mentors used for training. She waited for her apprentice to catch up before she continued.

"I'm going to show you a new battle move today, Blackpaw. One I think your agility would give you the upper hand." Nightfrost padded over to a large boulder about 3 fox-lengths away. "Watch me, it's actually a move any simpleton would get." Nightfrost padded away from the boulder twenty fox-lengths, and then turned to face it. Without hesitation, she took off at a dead sprint strait towards it. She didn't slow her pace, and just when it seemed that she would crash into the boulder and injure herself, she placed her front paws on the boulder and used her momentum to turn her sharply to the left. She landed perfectly on all fours, and then started clawing and batting at the empty space she had been moments before. When the demonstration was complete, she turned to Blackpaw. "This move is for when you have an assailant who is larger than you giving chase. Hopefully they will crash into the object of your choice, leaving them dazed. Then get in a few quick swipes to the ear, and leave them yowling for their mommies." Nightfrost let a devious smirk cross her face as she spoke. "I've done this move a few times on some big klutzy cats, and their stunned faces are almost as great as letting them have it."

Nightfrost took a few steps back to clear the area, and started grooming herself. After several moments of silence, when she realized her apprentice hadn't started the move yet, she raised her head slowly, narrowing her eyes. "Get on with it, then."

"Wow, she gets to stay with us?" Rosepaw asked in excitement, turning first to her mentor, and then to Bounce. "This will be great! I have so many questions for you! I can help make your bedding, teach you a few things about herbs, ask you about your kits, tell you about clan life…" Rosepaw rambled on, then stopped suddenly, out of breath. She would have continued on with another list she had compiled in her head, but she realized that Leafstar had wanted to speak with Bounce in private before she would be able to lie down. That would give Rosepaw and Tigerstep enough time to prepare a place for her. She hoped Tigerstep would agree to letting Bounce's nest be next to her own. The excitement had died down a little, and the black she-cat had gained composure. She picked up what Tigerstep had left of the berries and herbs they had found, and followed him into the medicine den. Rosepaw started stocking the herbs in their rightful places as Tigerstep started to prepare bedding for Bounce. As the two of them worked, Rosepaw couldn't help but think about how Tigerstep and Bounce had acted towards each other. There was definitely tension, Rosepaw could feel it. What she didn't know was why. It was almost as if something had happened between the two, but how could that be when they didn't even know each other before today? Unless… "Tigerstep?" Rosepaw asked, testing the waters. If her mentor was still feeling particularly sarcastic, Rosepaw wouldn't question him today.

Oddpaw rose to his paws at the sound of his mentor, and was just about to say something when his den mate, Cottonpaw made an appearance. "Crookedtail wants us to fetch some moss for the elders, Oddpaw." Well the elders will have to do without me, I've got training to do, he thought to himself. Sharing a mouse with a den mate had put Oddpaw in a surprisingly good mood, he didn't feel like sharing his retorts out loud. That was a change from his daily routine. Oddpaw glanced at his mentor as if asking for help explaining to Cottonpaw that he was busy. "Well, actually Fawndapple and I were just about to head out for some training…" He glanced around quickly, looking for another cat to help. His bicolored eyes rested on Lionpaw. "Perhaps Lionpaw will help you?" he said, more asking Lionpaw then telling Cottonpaw. When the golden tom padded away without hearing him, he turned back to Cottonpaw. "Go ask him!" He said, turning to his mentor. He really didn't want to mess with stinky elder bedding right now.

"I would love to do some battle training, Fawndapple," Oddpaw said to his mentor. He hadn't had time to do any battle training yesterday, so naturally he was feeling the urge to sharpen his skills and learn something new. His mentor was one of the senior warriors in the clan, and Oddpaw was glad for that. She had more experience, and probably knew some better moves than some of the other mentors. Oddpaw could be irritating at times, but he felt as if her were rather close to his mentor.

From the change in her tone, Ripplebreeze felt as if he had re-opened a fresh vein in Crookedtail’s mind bringing up their paw-hood. If he remembered correctly, her’s had not been all that great. None the less he felt that because he had brought it up- it was his job to change the subject and rid the tension that flooded the air. “Yes, I would hope so! I have always wanted to pass on the skills my mentor passed on to me, and train a new generation of kits.” He purred proudly, his tail wiggling back and forth against the ground out of excitement. Though he was a mature and aged cat, the thought of trying something new still sent sparks of excitement through him. “I haven’t seen a loner join the clan since Jinxshade joined… Not the friendliest of the herd.” He chuckled lightly, his eyes directing towards the black she-cat as she sauntered grumpily across the camp. “I noticed you two talking earlier- Don’t let her attitude get to you. Sometimes cat’s cannot help but be mean.” He sighed gently, flicking his tail against her back in comfort.

On multiple occasions he had tried conversing with the she-cat, but it seemed she didn't want anything to do with him- or anyone for that matter. It had always puzzled him as to why she joined the clan in the first place- as it was all about conversing and being a large family with everyone in the clan. But it was not his place to judge the she-cat, who didn't know her story or where she came from. Surely there was a reason for such cruelness? The thoughts soon overcame his conscious, and he had to blink a few times to awake himself back to the conversation he was having with Crookedtail.

Crookedtail
| Warrior | She-cat | 28 moons | Apprentice: Fernpaw | No crush; open | Location: Camp | tags; Ripplebreeze |

Crookedtail slowly brought her gaze into the tom's blue eyes and smiled softly. Chances were that any kit having him for a mentor would be lucky. "I bet you have many good skills to pass, as long as they aren't fishing skills," the she-cat teased lightly. It wasn't even a cruel thing to do, to tease about water-related skills, because Crookedtail herself hated the water and was horribly afraid of it. That was likely due to the fact she nearly drowned as an apprentice, but oh well.

At the mention of Jinxshade, Crookedtail followed Ripplebreeze's gaze, glancing over at the black, grumpy she-cat. "She didn't seem to like an offer of fresh-kill," Crookedtail mentioned calmly, her thoughts now filled with the possibilities of Jinxshade's past instead of her own past, "I'll still see if she wants some later. I can only pray to starclan that I don't get my ears shredded." The soft touch of Ripplebreeze's tail against her back was almost a surprise, and for a moment, she nearly reacted, but instead, she relaxed herself and was grateful for the touch. Ripplebreeze was a kind warrior. Everyone in the clan, liking his kind attitude or not, would have to agree with that.

Leafstar sighed in relief as Bounce willingly bounded into her den; as much as she embraced her role as leader, she still hated it when cats formed large groups around her. She also hated how impossible it was to please cats; if she accepted Bounce, she'd be taking an unworthy leech into the clan. If she sent Bounce away, she would be condemning a poor, helpless pregnant she-cat that probably would have been a good addition to the clan. Leafstar was pretty sure that she had nothing to worry about from Bounce; if she herself were alone and pregnant, she would certainly want to join the clan. However, she knew that being pregnant didn't make a cat completely innocent. Most definitely not, a small voice in the back of her head whispered. That sent a small shiver through her stomach, resentment coursing through her bones, but she shoved it down. That was long ago.

Shaking the unwelcome thoughts away, Leafstar padded into her den after Bounce, smiling tenuously; it was more of a formality than a nicety.
"You understand, now, the situation I'm in," Leafstar meowed. She knew Bounce must have heard at least a little bit of the mutterings about impure blood and kittypets; Leafstar, of course, disagreed with much of it. All of their lines went back to loner, rogue, and kittypet lines at some point; the clan had not been there forever as it was, so therefore there was no such thing as 'pure' blood. "I will not make my judgments based on my clan's opinions, but I hope to stress to you that in the event that I allow you to join, it will not be easy for you to blend in. Some cats will greatly disapprove of your mere existence and others will be overly curious. After this conversation, I will be indifferent; I must treat you as equally as I treat any other, and unless what they've done is obviously wrong, I cannot help you."

This whole situation vaguely reminded her of when Jinxshade had come to the clan for refuge- she had been young, about thirteen or fourteen moons- Leafstar hadn't taken it upon herself to remember -but Leafstar had not even been deputy then, so it had hardly mattered to her at the time. "I personally have never accepted a rogue into the clan, but it has been done before. I believe that the only thing I need from you is your history."

Never mind the whole ordeal with the new rogue; that wasFrostfire was mad. She didn't mind that Foxpaw had asked Lionpaw to train- who better to challenge him than his own competitive brother -but when he completely undermined her authority and tried to dictate the lesson, she felt fire flash through her veins. Who did he think he was, leader? Not on her watch. He was already gone, however, and she narrowed her eyes and stalked after the two apprentices. She wouldn't punish Lionpaw- he wasn't really in on it, as far as she could tell -but Foxpaw... He'd better run, she thought.

Frostfire only became angrier as she followed the path that matched Foxpaw's scent. She didn't need his scent; the underbrush was all carelessly crushed down, leaving a perfectly straight path to wherever the heck the stupid apprentice thought he was going.
"He won't get far," she growled to herself, all pride in her apprentice completely forgotten as she forged her way through the forest after him. Frostfire never would have treated Leafstar that way; the she-cat didn't even have to be leader to have Frostfire's respect, and she most certainly hadn't been. All of her earlier pride in her apprentice had been completely forgotten, of course.

Lionpaw smiled silently as he watched Oddpaw's situation. Usually, Oddpaw was one of the last apprentices chosen to go on little trips like fetching moss for the elders, since his personality naturally rubbed most others the wrong way. Of course, training was ten thousand times better than fetching moss, and that was what Lionpaw would have gone with. The only plus to fetching moss for the elders was Cottonpaw; she seemed pretty cool. Also, when it came to that nasty time of applying mouse bile for ticks, you could just say that you changed their bedding and they'd move on to the next apprentice. As expected, Oddpaw took the training track, suggesting Lionpaw go instead-

And that was when Foxpaw showed up, breathless and bouncing with excitement about training. Sweet, Lionpaw thought as he stood up, shaking his head and sending Cottonpaw an apologetic smile.
"Sorry; I've got training too, apparently." He watched as his brother sped off to go breathlessly tell Frostfire, who turned about ten shades of angry when he then turned and yelled he'd race him before turning and running. "It looks like I've got some tail to beat, too," he added, winking at Cottonpaw before he sped after his smaller brother with long strides. Lionpaw was big for his age; he had long, well-muscled legs and a broad body that made him pretty fast and a wicked opponent in battle. He wasn't very good at hunting; most of the time it was a noise issue. Lionpaw always forgot about the keen hearing of his prey- it was always just a small dumb creature to him -and he usually accidentally stepped on a stick or a leaf and sent it shooting off.
