((Hehe, I lived in California for a few years too. Hated not having seasons. Came back home. Also, I'm sorry for not remembering that Curse had asked Resin for advice. I read the posts then went to sleep and when I woke up, I forgot. ): And yes, start over if you'd like, Nightshade. Jump in wherever.))

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

She had settled herself in the treeline just in time to hear the howl echo through the narrowed clearing. Much grunting and groaning erupted and an ever growing roar of hooves thundered towards them. A feeling rose in the females throat and she wasn't sure whether it was adrenaline or anxiety, but before she could figure it out, it was too late. The caribou flew past them in droves.

Hrafn had been correct. Many stumbled and were trampled underfoot. Apparently they were going to be treated to tenderized meat for dinner. Seeing an opportune moment to trip up a large buck, Resin started forward, but was stopped by Ahote. His eyes were wide in obvious fear and he pleaded for her to call the wolves away from the stampede of hooves.

Her opportunity had been missed, so as she waited for another, she soothed his anxieties. "Do you trust me?" She licked his cheek then stared straight into his eyes with her own mesmerizing orbs of bright yellow. "Trust me now. No one is giving chase. We're startling them until they fall. The trees here are too thick for a herd of deer to run through. We'll be fine." And, with a quick nuzzle under his chin, she returned to her duties.

Though her opportunity with the buck had been missed, another fell right into her paws. A fat old female was running right towards her, it's mouth open and eyes rolled back to whites, panting in fear. Dashing out quickly, the already huge grey femme bristled her fur, making herself appear larger. With a snarl and a snap, the doe's legs gave way and she came crashing into the ground. Another reindeer, although it tried to avoid her, leaped right onto the doe's neck, ending it's life quickly and efficiently.

While still slightly in the open, she noticed that Xani had stopped and was staring at the oncoming mass of antlered, brown flesh. "Xani!" She called to the female but go no response. Since the pair had been hunting behind one another, she dove towards the light colored wolf and, using her shoulder, pushed her back into the trees just in time to keep her from getting trampled by a pair of snorting bucks. It seemed as though she had been slightly hypnotized by the onslaught of caribou, which Resin understood quite well. It happened to just about everyone when they saw such a spectacle.

Back in safety, Resin counted as many felled reindeer as she could. Satisfied with the number, she howled aloud, ending their hunt. The howl was crisp and clear and would be quite easy for the others to hear over the receding din of the caribou. The last of them had squeezed through the funnel and were making their way into another large clearing further down the way.

Not wanting to hurt Xani's pride, she said nothing about the small incident. Everyone walked out into the open, all eyes on the retreating deer. Again Resin made a count, this time of the wolves that had formed the hunting party. Ten, some still in their death throes. Everyone was accounted for and no one had been killed. Turning her attention to the heavily breathing Ahote, she smiled. "I told you to trust me."

Already each member chose a kill to call their own. Some were already eating, others were waiting for a signal to continue which Resin quickly gave them. A nod of her head and they dug in, finally feeding their protesting stomachs. The alpha chose a meal of her own. One of the large, tender calves would suffice. Before she ate, she made another full count of the meal that they'd acquired. It appeared that, with just a little bit of a chase and a scare, they'd managed to down twelve caribou. A damn good number. Much more efficient than a normal hunt.

As she settled herself in the snow between the front and back legs of the calf, fully prepared to dig in, she heard an enraged grunt from behind her. How the cow had managed to hide herself in the trees, she didn't know, but there wasn't much that could be done about it now. As some female caribou were, she was fully antlered. Her felt had fallen, leaving sharp barbs upon the ends. With another enraged grunt, she charged straight at Resin and what had formerly been her calf, head lowered.

Turning just in time, the Alpha saved herself from getting gored in her side, instead, she threw her weight into the impact to keep from getting thrown and trampled. One of the sharp points sunk into the left side of her chest and the force of the collision tore right through her flesh, leaving a nice bloody gash. The shadowy female hardly felt it. Adrenaline was doing it's job once again. With a snap of her powerful jaws, she successfully broke the doe's foreleg in two, bringing the big beast crashing to the ground.

After taking a second to breathe, she dove at the suffering animal and proceeded to end it's life, her long, curved canines ripping into it's throat. After a time the struggles ceased and the dark female sat, head slightly lowered, panting. The open wound in her chest still didn't hurt, but she began to feel the first warm, obvious throbs. Hey, if at the end of the day everyone was fed and she was the only one to come out with an injury, she was happy with that.

Hrafn- Male Hunter- 46 Summers

The playing field was set. He waited eagerly for the howl, his stomach giving a loud, long battle cry. It had been quite some time since he'd eaten. Great Wolves weren't supposed to go long without sustenance. Their bodies were just too big and needed a lot of protein to function. He'd gone longer before, of course, but still, he'd do anything for a meal.

The herd came rushing towards them and they did their duties. Everyone played their parts perfectly. He did note, however, Xani's trance like state. After more snarling and snapping, the herd passed and their job was finished. Rather than eat like the rest, he moved to the females side, his brow furrowed in concern. "Are you alright, Xani? You're not hurt, are you?" He thought that maybe she had been clipped by a passing deer and the force had shaken her about, making her cloudy. Upon inspection, he saw no wounds and was happy for that.

"Come and eat," he said, prompting her towards a nearby caribou. Hoping to lead by example, he moved to it and settled himself between it's legs, pulling at the soft underbelly to release the delicacies within. He wasted no time, filling his screaming stomach with the hot, steaming meat and other bits. The blood on his white chin was the only speck of color to the big black male. The look might have made him look incredibly silly when he shot a glance behind him to smile at Xani.

Commotion to his left tore the smile from his face. A distraught mother reindeer had sought vengeance for her dead calf. With a bellow and a charge, she rammed into the Alpha of his new pack. Of the many things that crossed his mind, one of them was 'I wonder if Xani will take over as Alpha female.' Before he knew it, he was on his feet and rushing to the scene. No one made it in time, however. Resin was clearly capable of taking care of herself. Within moments she had taken out the doe, bringing their kill count to thirteen.

From such a distance, he could see blood, but he wasn't sure if it was hers or the caribou's. She didn't seem to be in any sort of distress, so he hmmphd to himself and turned back to his meal.

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

Xani stared at the thrashing doe, glancing behind her to see the oncoming hoard of deer. For just a second, she was mesmerized by the whole scene. It was oddly beautiful. Just as she shook herself out of it, however, she felt a force knock her back into the trees. She scrambled to stay on her feet, but turned in time to see Resin leaping back out into the fray. Xani shook her head once to clear her mind before also returning to her job. The female she had injured had been knocked down and trampled, so she was done for.

As Resin howled for the hunt to be done, Xani retreated into the trees. She barely had time to inspect herself before Hrafn appeared. He had apparently seen her stop in the way of the herd and was inspecting her. She let him, watching him wander towards the downed deer. Though she needed no prompting, she allowed herself a moment to rest first. Her eyes wandered back to Hrafn once more, just in time to see him smile back at her. She chuckled a bit before moving towards the same deer. It was rather large, and most others had already been claimed.

Xani tucked in next to Hrafn, though chose to rip off a bit of meat from the sides and legs to munch. She hummed contentedly, the wolf's equivalent of purring. Just as she swallowed a bite, her attention was brought up once more. She caught sight of a deer ramming Resin, and was instantly on her feet and running towards the scene. The deer was down by the time Xani arrived, but she skidded to a halt in front of Resin.

"Are you alright?" She started to check over the dark female, stopping when she saw the gash. "Your chest. You got ripped by an antler. Does it hurt?" She wasn't really used to dealing with injuries, but was glad she had found it right away.

(( No worries Resin, Its why I kinda hinted at it again lol, I figured it had been lost in the shuffle. No worries XD! And yeah, I'm originally from the Midwest, and I miss my snow, but the family is talking going up to big bear and torturing our dogs with snow LOL))

Curse/Isis

She slowed to a stop panting heavily as she did. Her tongue hanking from her maw as she looked around, taking in the sight before her. No one had been injured and there were many downed Reindeer, with a wag of her tail she pranced, she'd not felt this good about herself or her place in life, in a long time, 14 long years to be truthful. She glanced around, then moved over to a downed Buck and ripped into its belly, taking a huge bite she chewed blissfully, blood coating her face as she ate. She lifted her head just as the doe ran at Resin, her heart leaps into her throat, as he stomach dropped. She rose to her feet and raced towards the scene. It was all over in an instant, the doe lay bleeding out into the snow and Resin sat panting, but blood rolling down her chest. "Are you alright?" she asked softly looking worried and concerned.

And it is with those words, that she realizes she's opened up again, she's allowing herself to worry about those around her. She's letting other wolves into her heart. She blinks rapidly then shakes off the thought process, moving back a step for Xani as she arrives, letting the new Beta check on their Alpha. She waits quietly for an answer her body tense with worry.

Kuolema is oblivious to the on goings of the pack he's following slash now living with, it amuses him slightly at that thought. He's pushed thoughts of his mother aside as his stomach and his hunger over whelms him completely. He dives in, ripping into a calf and going straight for the liver. His grey and white fur is soon soaked in blood from nose til to shoulders, but he could care less. He's been covered in worse and the meat is warm and filling. He pulls more meat from the animals hide and chews contentedly.

His ears flick a bit at the sound of voices raised in concern, and finally, regretfully he pulls himself from with in the carcass and looks around, he finally spies the group of hunters gathered around the Alphaess. He walks slowly towards the group, trying to catch the drift of what is going on, licking blood from his maw as he approaches, he just barley manages to jump back from a snap from another one of the brutes that had been on the hunt with them. He dances backwards as the brute comes for him again. Of course, he's covered in blood, and smell's of death, and he's approaching the injured Alpha. He continues backing away, spinning when ever the male comes for him trying to stay calm and not attack this brute. "Come on," He said gently trying to sooth the very angry and larger brute, only to feel the full weight of the brute finally shove him back into the snow. He spins and manages just barley, feeling the burn of a bite on his shoulder, as he sprints a few yards and looks back grumbling at the ancestors that insisted he be here as he watches the brute stalk him now.

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

Though she expected others to be concerned, she hadn't expected them to be that concerned. When both Xani and Curse approached her, she nodded. The pain in her chest was deepening, but she could handle it. It wouldn't kill her. The wound looked much nastier than it actually was. Flesh had been pulled and ripped so that it hung like a fur covered skin flap. Blood was slowly trickling down her foreleg, but she paid it no mind. If anything, Resin was a tough gal.

"It's fine. I'm fine. It could have been a lot worse." Finally she was breathing evenly. "Finish your meals and we'll drag the rest back to the cave. You and I will have that talk later," she said to Curse. Thankfully the cave wasn't too far off. They would only have to drag the carcasses a little over a mile to reach it. As the others were dismissed, she rose to continue her meal. The movement pulled at the damaged tissue and she inhaled sharply through clenched teeth, a hiss pouring from her maw. So maybe it hurt a little worse than she'd initially thought.

Putting weight upon her foreleg sent a searing pain through her as the muscles in her chest expanded and contracted. She limped to the doe that had injured her, putting a minimal amount of weight on the tips of her large black toes. She'd already had her teeth in this one, so she might as well finish what she started. Settling herself gingerly between it's legs, she ripped into the stomach of the doe, picking out the choice bits. It didn't take her long before her stomach, now smaller from hunger, was filled and her appetite was satiated.

Rising, another grimace marred her features before she sucked it up. Nothing could be done about it and making silly faces wouldn't help. Taking the torn throat of the doe between her teeth, she began to pull the carcass behind her. The others were free to finish their meals, but she would rather get a head start. Especially since there were eleven of them and thirteen caribou to drag back. Two of them would have to make another trip.

As she passed the wolf bullying the younger male, she snapped her jaws together and snarled at him. "Leave him be. You know that your actions won't be tolerated." One of the rules of the pack was that there was to be no bullying. They weren't their base, smaller cousins and they were given the ability to speak for a reason. If one wolf had a problem with another, it was to be addressed in a civil manner or brought to the Alpha personally. "You must have forgotten that he was one of the ones that helped save all of our lives when the mad ones gave chase. Give him a bit of respect." Expecting her orders to be followed, she glanced towards Xani, canted her head towards the bully brute, and continued on.

The trip was long and arduous. More than once she had to stop and lap up the blood that continued to flow down her foreleg with each step. Every step pulled the tissue apart and more of the red liquid found its way onto her fur. As it moved towards her paw, the blood began to freeze and she was actually pulling blood icicles from her coat. Not as appetizing as they sound, I assure you.

Checking her progress, she looked behind her to see if anyone else had begun their trek. Well, they would definitely be able to find their way back. Other than the swath cut through the snow from the deer, there was a steady trail of red spattering the snow. She huffed lightly. Of course one or more of the others would have carried the doe for her, but she refused to be babied. An Alpha that couldn't do her own job was no Alpha at all.

In time she reached the cave. Rather than pull the doe inside, she left it at the entrance, letting the others know where it was when she entered. Many questioned her health, but she brushed the question off. "Fine. I'm fine." Resin limped to the back of the cave, finding a spot that was darker than the rest. A rocky overhang would suit her just fine. Leaping atop a raised rock back in the shadows, she rested, laying upon her stomach with her head rested upon her right paw which kept the injured left side from squeezing tightly together.

There she rested, eyes closed to mere slits. She watched those around her. The doe that she brought wasn't big enough for all of them, so they allowed the pups to go eat first, their guardians on watch for danger. Before she fell asleep, her last thought was of the danger that the smell of the kills could bring. They were trapped in here if anything chose to come take the carcasses. She would worry about that later, should it happen.

.:Kahleel:.|.:34 moons:.|.:Hunter:.

Kahleel had awoken late and had missed most of the hunt. The white brute growled viciously to himself in pure anger at what he had missed. He was a hunter, how could he do this? Maybe it wasn't too late. Without another though, he raced towards where the hunt just was. He wasn't sure if he had missed anything, and if he had then he feared the worst. The male flattened his ears while he contemplated for a while on what to do. He lifted his head and look around, somewhat frantically. Until his mind came to the conclusion to look for the others.

The brute eventually padded through the trees in search of a wolf or the hunting grounds. He heard a group of voices, voices of concern and worry. As to not disturb the conversation, he slowly crept in the direction. Soon after he noticed the alpha dragging a large doe carcass towards the camp. Now Kahleel knew he missed the hunt, but was determined to make the next one. He decided that it would be best if he went and helped the others with the other carcasses.

Kal walked in the direction of the other hunters to offer his services to them and help them carry the food back to camp. He followed the smell of a fresh hunting session and picked up his speed until he reached a group of hunter wolves. He wasn't sure how to approach them, or how to ask them if they needed help.

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

Xani nodded slowly at Resin. She was obviously in pain, but the beat could easily understand her stubbornness. Xani would have also covered her pain, so she respectfully stepped back from her alpha and returned to her own meal. Hrafn had remained at the deer, and Xani took up her eating silently. The sound of a dragging body made Xani peer over at Resin once more, who had started dragging her own deer back. Huffing, Xani just resumed eating. Offering to help would have made her feel weak.

Once Resin disappeared around the bend, Xani stood. She was now in charge of this group, so she quickly scanned the area. There were 2 more reindeer than wolves, meaning there would be two trips for two wolves. The deer were in close enough proximity where her voice carried if she spoke loudly enough. A quick glance around the group ended with her eyes on Hrafn. She nodded once before speaking. "Alright, everyone. Each wolf here will, when done eating, drag one carcass back with them to the cave. Resin left a nice trail for us to follow."

She glanced back at Hrafn once more. "I will be returning to drag back the other two deer. Once you reach the cave, leave the deer near the others that you will see." She wasn't sure where the carcasses should be stored. If they were in the cave, it could draw predators towards them. If they were too far, however, they would lose them for sure. Without another word, she stood and trotted towards one of the deer that was untouched. Grabbing it firmly by the back of the neck, she started off.

It took a while to drag the heavy body back to the cave, but it was relatively easy. Upon reaching their camp, she dropped the body near the other one. The pups had already claimed the first carcass, and the elders were starting forward for the next one. She backed off and peered into the cave, seeking Resin. She was resting, so Xani decided to leave her be. She turned, trotting back towards the group. The doe she had just drug back was relatively small, but the buck she headed for next was quite large by comparison. Huffing, she reached down to bite the neck and repeat the process.

.:Kahleel:.|.:34 moons:.|.:Hunter:.

The white male gulped and heaved slightly before swiftly approaching Xani as she returned to fetch the next carcass. He thought to himself about what he was to say to her, as he usually got nervous about asking things of wolves, even if it was to help them. He walked over to Xani and stood up in a rather tall and regal position. He sighed. "Hello. I was just wondering if you needed any help in carrying the carcasses?" The brute said with a nervous smile.

While speaking to the young female, he wondered what had happened to the alpha and if she was okay. As much as he wanted to see if she was alright from her injury, it was no place for him to check up on her. Kahleel continued to focus closely on Xani's answer, wanting to do something productive for the pack while still feeling badly for missing the hunt. Oh gosh, I am so pathetic. He thought to himself, his ears lowering slightly.

Kal's mind kept wandering to different places and different worries. He tried to keep his focus on what Xani was to say but kept worrying about earlier and Resin. He tried to keep a cool head and continue with his pack duties, forgetting how anxious he can get around wolves he has never spoken to before.

((Resin I've been meaning to ask, if it were okay for Azaria to sorta be related to Resin, I was thinking her father was, Resin's father's brother? Is that okay?))

~~..: Azaria::.5 years.::Pup/hunter in training.::by Herself.:..~~

Azaria had stayed put with in her small hole in the wall sense she'd crawled in. It was a tight fit, but she dealt with it. She had cried herself to sleep, and once asleep she found her mother. She was surprised to see her, whole and healthy and strong. No blood, no pain, but the biggest surprise of her dream was the long and lean, and dark furred shape of her father, She could only vaguely remember her father, a dark lean shape, peering at her when she was only days old. He had vanished shortly after that. But they stayed together, she knew she'd been a pup born late in life for both of her parents, but she'd been loved. But, now here in her dream, they spoke to her they were kind and loving, gentle and sweet. Telling her to keep going and not give up, and that they loved her, and were so very proud of her. There voices fading away as her mind slowly woke. She blinked her eyes open to see Resin laying not far away, the elder wolf was sleeping, and the smell of food filled her senses. She blinked and looked about, she could see her fellow pups eating happily.

She wiggled from with in her privet little Den and shoved her way between the two rowdy males, and dug in, eating till her sides bulged, wagging her tail, and drunk on the amount of food she'd eaten. She turned thinking to go back to her little cave, until her green eyes landed on the sleeping Resin. She licked at her lips and then slowly crept up to the Alphaess and curled up next to her, sighing in contentment she closed her eyes, and let a light sleep claim her.

~~..:Lokia.::45 Years.::Loner.:: alone:..~~

Lokia had awoke sometime after her fish Dinner, she rose to her feet and stretched out, shaking her coat out she yawned heavily and walked back towards the stream where she'd caught her fish, she drank deeply before wading into the water to clean her fur. Ignoring the iciness of the water she climbed out and shook herself out hard. She waded through the chest deep snow, sniffing the air. The smell of blood filled her scences and she paused trying to decide if the blood smell that of predator, prey or one of those sick one's that lived to the north of her. Her wise old nose finally told her what it was, and she trotted off quickly in the direction, figuring that whatever had killed, would leave some scraps or bones she could take once the other was done.

((Gah! Stupid work... So many things I would have written. Anyway, you're all stuck with this now, even if it does make Ahote look like a coward.))

Ahote
Male | 46 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

"Of course I trust you..." Ahote said, but then Resin was dashing back out into the path of the stampeding reindeer. Shaking his head, he swallowed his heart as it tried to climb up out of his throat and retreated back into the trees. At least the beasts seemed to be running in the right direction and not back on the hunters who had frightened them, but this was no way to hunt. He had seen it go horribly wrong before, it was both risky and foolish, but it was far too late to make his point now.

From his hiding place, Ahote watched the chaos that ensued, reindeer crashed into one another, their number killing nearly as many as the wolves brought down. Suddenly, a buck who has been forced of the path by the crush of bodies comes hurtling into the forest, headed straight towards him. Leaping to the side just in time, the buck crashes into the tree next to him, the force of the collision embedding his antlers deep into the wood. With a horrifying cry it screamed, thrashing and kicking as it tried to get free, but it could get no purchase as its head was stuck sideways and half of its hooves simply flailed uselessly in the air. Looking at it wide-eyed, Ahote crept around the back side of the tree and managed to get his teeth around its throat without getting kicked. A few short moments later, the hunt was over and Resin's sharp call brought them all to a stop.

Panting more from fright than exertion, Ahote made his way back out to the others. Resin and Xani were not far away, and the other hunters were already digging into their kills. Seeming quite pleased with the results, Resin turned back to him to speak, but he could only shake his head in reply. Returning to his kill, Ahote stared at it for a long time. What on earth was he doing to do with a deer stuck in a tree. He couldn't just leave it there, nor could he easily eat it as half of it was still suspended in midair. The only thing to do was find a way to dislodge the thing, so at first he crawled behind it and latched onto one of the hocks, and pulled until he felt the joints pip. It was either the antlers or the tree, but one of them let out a deafening screech, and the whole mess moved not an inch. With a resigned sigh, he let go and decided to try another angle of attack, so he clambered up on top of the animal. Standing perched on its head like a drunken ox pecker, he managed to find his balance long enough to hop up and bring his front feet down on it. Four bounces total and the antlers finally broke allowing the carcass fell to the ground, which in turn sent Ahote sprawling face first in the snow. The big wolf got up, growling and grumbling to himself, as he spit the dirt and pine needles from his mouth. At this point, the only thing he was grateful for was the fact that there was no one else around to see his disgrace.

By this time, Curse was calling for them to finish eating and bring what was left back to the cave. Not really caring to eat just yet, Ahote decided to try and negotiate his way out of the trees with this one and eat with the pups and elders left back at the cave instead. After all, the thing had practically killed itself and he didn't really deserve to eat before anyone else. Unfortunately for the big male, getting the thing out of the woods was just as difficult getting it out of the tree, and by the time he had made it back to the path Xani was already returning to grab another carcass. Mouth full of fur and flesh, he only looked at her as she passed and then continued on his way back to the cave.

Depositing his untouched meal next to the others, Ahote left it there for the others to take apart. Several of them seemed quite grateful for the chance to get at the organs normally taken by the hunters and this at least brought a bit of a smile to his face. Throat dry from all the panting and huffing he did to drag the thing back up the hill, he decided to duck back into the cave and get a drink before eating. It was only then that he saw the blood. Of course it could simply been bloody footprints from any number of wolves, but as his nose passed over it he caught the distinct scent of wolf blood. Concerned for whomever had been the source, he followed the trail to find Resin curled on a rock with a pup at her side, a garish wound torn into her chest.

How could this have happened? Ahote had seen her only a short while ago after the hunt was over and she was perfectly fine. Keening with worry, he noses Resin gently, licking her face. "Resin, are you alright? What happened?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry.
