Pilot
32 - Fae - Straggler

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pilot followed Xani quietly as they walked themselves back to her Pack. Her feet made small pokeholes in her wake, sometimes stepping in the other females ones just for ease of walking. As they made headway Xani explained the collective destination of the group and reasoning for heading south.

Yes it sounded a little weird that a giant mass group of wolves all carried on together based off a singular vision. But Pilot couldn't be one to talk much as she was the one to have just upped and left her small family one day on basically a hunch.

"I have been following the herds." She replied back, trotting forwards so that she was more or less side-by-side with Xani. "Wherever they go I go." It didn't get much more simple than that. Her lands were also changing and things were moving on. In order to survive she had sought fit to go and see where exactly they were going. Perhaps she and the Pack were not so different in the end, both looking for a new place to call home. If they were as they appeared to be, perhaps she would in fact truly join them.

The blonde fae sniffed once, the aroma of wolves getting stronger in her nose. That she was nervous would be putting it lightly, but especially now there was not much she could do about it. She held her head high, trying to give her small frame any sort of potential stature she could.

They walked more, the two falling silent for a while. The other wolf had introduced herself as Xani earlier, a nice name that went easily across the tongue. The female's simple stature did help Pilot to ease her nerves. No nonsense, no second motive, just straight talk. "By the way I'm Pilot." She remarked, looking at the female's face.

(Quite alright, that's what I figured. ^^
Is Xani a little jealous?)

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

Xani and the other fae walked on in companionable silence, the fighter's mind free to wander for a bit. The main idea that occupied her thinking, however, was that of sleep. She wasn't hungry, only tired. These past few days had really taken a toll on her, much more than anything had ever done before. The deaths, the surge in new wolves, and the flurry of activity with the diseased pack... She didn't know how much more she could take.

When the other mentioned that she had been following the herds, Xani only nodded. It seemed that things were becoming more desperate everywhere. With how things were going, would they ever make it far enough south? She was snapped from her musings as the wolf spoke once more, introducing herself as Pilot. To Xani, it was a rather strange name that sounded more masculine than anything, but who was she to judge? Another nod signified that she would remember.

After a few more moments, the pair reached the rest of the pack. Xani motioned for Pilot to follow, and she moved quickly towards Vali. "Thank you for watching. You may go back to sleep if you wish." She stopped a ways away from Vali, finding another hunter who was awake. Xani spoke to her, telling her to take a turn watching. She then walked to a small area that was unclaimed, motioned for Pilot to make herself comfortable. "I think that Resin, the alpha, is currently sleeping, but it should be fine as long as you stay near me." At least, the dark sleeping mass that Xani saw should have been Resin... No other wolf of that color would lie down against what she had taken to be Ahote. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she thought, but she quickly shook her head. With one loud huff, Xani burrowed into the snow and was soon deep asleep.

((Jealous eh? Ahote is definitely a desirable guy. Lol))

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

A small tickle to her subconscious caused Resin to wake with a start. Her eyes opened and she was instantly aware. There was no groggy, cloudy waking stupor. She was simply awake. Rising to a sitting position, she looked over at the still sleeping form of Ahote. By the time he woke, she would be gone again. Would he even know that she'd been there? Something close to disappointment niggled at her mind before she rose completely. Using her muzzle, she brushed the dusting of snow from Ahote's face before moving towards a dark spot on the horizon.

The sun was now peeking over the horizon, on its way up to swim in the sky. The spot wasn't actually there, mind you. It just seemed as if she was supposed to reach it. Padding past the resting form of Lani, she greeted the older female with a smile and a nod. Despite being overly affectionate with Attican, overly boisterous and, unfortunately, sometimes a drain on ones patience, Resin liked her. Lani could always be counted on to perk everyone up when things seemed to only be going downhill.

On she went, breaking into a gentle lope once she'd cleared the spattering of waking wolves. By now she just followed her intuition and didn't doubt it. If she woke feeling like she was needed somewhere, that's where she was going to go. This sort of feeling was easily distinguishable from other types of feelings. It bit at her mind with a sense of urgency. It was accompanied by a warmth spilling through her mind. It would be a bit difficult to explain the feeling to someone, but she knew it very well.

Two sets of tracks caught her attention. They had been slightly blown over with snow, but they obviously belonged to a large wolf and a much smaller one. Resin followed the tracks out of the meadow and down a slight incline. There rested the distraught form of Attican. Rushing to his side, she prodded him with her nose, testing for any injury. "Attican, what's wrong? Are you ok? What's happened?"

Fear rose in the dark females heart. What was wrong with him? If anything happened to him, she would truly be lost. He was the last bit of 'family' that she possessed. "Attican, speak to me. Tell me what's wrong." The pain and anguish was evident on the features of the old wolf. Resin felt helpless. She danced back and forth with her front paws, clearly not knowing what to do with herself.

Another slight niggle at the recesses of her mind stopped her in her tracks. Looking down, she noted the set of small canine prints resting between her two larger ones. Realization dawned on her. "Pipaluk," she said quietly, her yellow gaze following the line of prints until they faded away in the blowing snow. "She's gone again, is she." The question was posed as a statement, much as his had been when he'd spoken with Pipa last.

Anger rose in her. The ancestors or fates or whatever chose to pull a wolf from their pack after returning her so recently were indeed horrible beasts. There was only so much a mind could take before it shattered. Though they hadn't known the elder that long, many had become very attached to her. She had been like a grandmother to them all. Should she go after her? Resin had no idea why the old wolf would choose to leave them. She had no idea that the river had taken its toll upon her emaciated old body. She had no idea that Pipaluk had left them to die.

Pipaluk-Elder Female- 97 Summers

She walked for a time; slowly.. languidly, not caring too much where she was headed. Being alone again didn't upset her as it would do to some. She was never truly alone now, was she? Nanuq walked beside her, a sadness etched upon his great, dark face. He did not fear her death. He feared that she would experience pain. Sharing those fears with her once more caused his mate to utter that soft laugh of hers that made even him feel childish. "I will be fine. I'm going to make it fast."

Veering east, Pipa would walk for days before she reached her destination. The dark, angry ocean stretched out before her. She placed herself upon the edge of a wind swept cliff that hung out over the water below. The salty air felt lovely. It blew from the South, bringing a slightly warmer temperature with it. Pipaluk closed her eyes and turned her face to the wind, allowing it to brush almost lovingly through her frizzy old coat. "I couldn't choose a better place to die, Nanuq." She turned her attention to the healthy looking male seated beside her.

It had long been the custom for Great Wolves to offer their dead up to the ocean when able. They believed that the fast moving waters would hasten the dead to their afterlife. As she sat there now, staring down at her final resting place, she hoped with every fiber of her being that their beliefs were true. The wind seemed to become warmer right before the end. A sudden coughing fit splattered blood and phlegm upon the pure white snow. Her health hadn't been the greatest to begin with. Not eating more than mice and weeds for so long had taken its toll upon the old one. The river was the last little push that her body needed to end her.

Pipaluk willed her body to die. After so many years of being trapped within it, she willed her body to release her soul so she could once again return to her former glory. She had loved ones waiting for her on the other side and yearned to be with them once more. As if they heard her silent plea, those being began to form around her. Pipaluk flicked one dark ear.

Nanuq stood there, of course. Both of her parents appeared as did her two siblings. Her daughter, the spitting image of her mother, appeared from thin air as did her son; Resin's father. "Why didn't you tell her?" He asked his mother gently. Pipaluk only shrugged. "It would have caused her more pain than anything. She's grown to be a fine leader, our little Resin." Behind the others a ways stood a massive white wolf.

"I see you made it, Ash." Pipaluk smiled at her grandson. He nodded and smiled in return. He hadn't been at all angry that she didn't tell them. She had her reasons and he understood. His sister may not understand as well, so he believed that her course of action was for the best.

"I'm glad that you're all here." As Pipaluk placed herself at the edge of the cliff, she smiled happily. Closing her eyes, she drifted into a deep, lovely sleep. A sleep from which her body would never wake. Days later the weight of her body and the snow piled atop it would send the finger of land crashing into the ocean below. When her soul woke, everything was as she believed it would be. There she stood, in the shimmering afterlife, her family around her. She was once again in her prime. Looking past all of those that greeted her, she found the one that she sought most.

Rushing forward, she slammed her now young body against the black wolf that was her mate. Finally... after what seemed like ages, they were able to touch once more. Tears flowed freely from both of their eyes. The pair made soft murmurings that only the other could hear. The joy that surged through their hearts was inexplicable. She was once again with the love of her life, but her job was not yet finished with those on the earthly plain. For now, at least, she could enjoy her everlasting youth with the one that she had yearned for all these long, lonely years.

{{Oh, please excuse me as I remove this BRANCH out of my eye.. Also, ah! Honestly did not see that coming with Pipa being Resin's grandmother!}}

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Attican laid in a heap with his face in the snow for some time. The cold flakes not only cooled his eyes and other features, but over time began to chill it too. His nose went numb, no longer being able to breathe out of it. He didn't care. Right now it seemed to be the only thing to bring in any sort of feeling into his body.

Multiple times he sighed, each exhale like a giant release of his emotions. His tail wrapped around his legs, a feeble attempt to bring himself warmth even though simply moving would prove much more beneficial. The final straw had pulled a number against the aging brute. How much farther must he try without being able to get anything more than he already had? Although foolish it was to think of it, Pipaluk had become the embodiment of a stone to him. She had lived so long, surely nothing could touch her now. It was as if he had nearly perceived her as immortal. How could she be gone? She was Pipaluk after all, she could survive through anything.

Perhaps it was the way she went about it. One minute she was speaking to him like any average day. The next, gone. Again, he should be pleased that her soul would no longer be trapped in her ill aquipped body... but in the moment he could not bare it. He delved into his self-indulged mindstate, nearly working as a coping device.

And so that was how Resin found him. Huddled, motionless, and face buried neck-deep in the snow. He had not heard her coming and with the sudden nose prodding he yelped involuntarily, ripping himself from the bank. His red eyes darted warily, quickly recognizing the wolf before him. It was Resin... It was always Resin. She continued to prod him, asking him questions at a mile a minute.

"No.. I'm fine.. No. Res-.. I'm fine." He tried replying, his voice hoarse and cracked between his previous yelling and the crying. His head felt heavy and his nose was still very much numb. The Keeper had hoped to not be found like this, but of course here she was all the same. Concern fell across her every feature, almost making him feel worse. "I'm fine." he grunted, looking down at the disturbed areas of snow.

"Pipaluk."

The single name came on so powerful that even though he thought he had run dry, another tear began to well in his eye. His bit his lip to keep it from quavering, trying to keep any sort of decency he still had left for the female. She didn't exactly have it easy either.

"Not just gone Resin. But gone." He lifted a glittering eye to her yellow ones to make his statement clear. "Pipa will not be returning."

Silence fell over the clearing again, the brute finding not much else to say. He felt embarrassment for his actions, but it had all occurred all the same and there was nothing that he could do about it now. The single tear slide down his cheek, restaining a side that was sure to be crusty by now. He bit his lip again, words forming across his tongue.

"I miss her Resin." There, he said it. After honest years of keeping it in, the brute had finally put reserve in someone else to say it. The 'her' did not imply to Pipaluk, instead it held a very different wolf; Annu.

"For once, I have nothing to say. Your Keeper... is lost."

Pilot
32- Fae - Straggler

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The rest of the walk went in silence between Pilot and Xani. However as they got closer it was physically obvious that Pilot was more than a bit nervous. She pranced lighter on her paws than normal and her ears swiveled as if they were satellites picking up every minuscule sound to be heard. The first glace for her had been a doozy.

Wow. How many of them were there? As the two walked up a hill an almost sea of wolves appeared to dot the snowy ground. Not ever had the wolfess seen so many before. Hesitantly she walked around the side, keeping in very close range to the one that lead her. Some wolves were up, watching as the strange new fae walked into their midst. Some had decently cordial faces, others seemed to bear unsatisfied scowls though, as if unpleased at the prospects of another mouth to feed. Surely she would be no bother to anyone.. perhaps she'd just go and hunt for herself when the time came.

Pilot watched as Xani came up and spoke to a particular brute who was sitting up. He was stocky and squarish, eyes overlooking everything and everyone. He nodded his head to the female in gesture, a small grunt in the form as he laid back down. It appeared that he had been a lookout. Her faced scrunched, lightly bewildered by his actions. Couldn't just a simple 'yes' suffice? Why not just talk? No matter, it was not her problem anyways. Xani appointed another wolf lookout duty, herself laying down in a comfortable place.

"Okay." She replied simply, her ears still rotating at any and all sounds. Even though no one was talking, the simple mass of 20 or more wolves breathing, sleeping, and just being in the general facility all at once generated a lot of noise. Daintly she walked herself on her feet, circling around a few times on a pinpoint spot to curl up into. Once satisfied she laid down, eyes still scanning the area.

She wondered what the Alpha looked like... what was the name Xani had given again? Desin? He sounded like a strong wolf. Hopefully Pilot would be up to snuff for the likes of someone like him. After all, it must take a strong leader to be able to keep track and care for so many animals at once.

Her head came to rest on the joints of her paws, sighing deeply as a single eye closed. Although she knew no one, simply being in a big group as this immediately brought some comfort. Safety in numbers, right?

((I thought I hinted enough will her dark muzzle stripe, dark ears, and constant tell-tale ear flicks. Guess not. At least we know Ash is ok eh?))

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

When the Keeper jumped and yelped, she did so as well, her heart beating a mile a minute. Atticans words forced her to be seated. Looking out in the direction of the tracks once more, she spoke softly, barely above a whisper. "She didn't want us to worry. Her time was coming and she didn't want us to see her deteriorate further." Though it was an admirable thing to do, Resin still felt slightly cheated. She would have liked to thank the old wolf and wish her well on her journey to the afterlife.

His next words broke her heart. "I miss her, Resin" The way that he spoke those words made her think that he was speaking of someone other than Pipaluk. There was only one wolf that he could miss so dearly and that was Annu. She had loved her as well. Resin honestly didn't know how you couldn't have loved Annu. To this day she remembered her fondly and strove to be like her in some aspects.

Seeing Attican broken like this brought out a motherliness in Resin that she didn't know she had. Many times over the years, the Keeper had carried her emotionally, pulling her out of many an internal battle. Now it was her turn to try and do the same for him. Starting forward, she pressed her chest against his, her neck draped over his shoulder. In soft words that she knew he would still be able to hear, she tried her best to alleviate at least a little of his pain.

"I miss her too. And I miss my parents, Ash, Junco and..." her voice broke slightly as her throat threatened to close in a sob. "Pipaluk. We will see them again. If she taught us anything, Pipa taught us that. She saw her mate constantly. He shadowed her and she spoke to him often. I believe that she wasn't the senile old wolf that others may have believed her to be." With one last squeeze of her powerful neck, she pulled back, catching his eyes with her bright yellow pair. "You will see Annu again. I will see Sol again and Ash. We have to believe that or we'll break."

Shaking her head lightly, the younger dark female furrowed her brow. "I've lost so much...I can't lose you, too. You're all that I have left, Attican. My only family." She placed a dark paw upon one of his much larger white one. "We'll see them again. I promise you. They're probably following us around right now the same as Pipa's mate." The thought made her grin. "That's a little embarrassing, eh? I know I've had some less than stellar moments recently."

Leaning forward, she ran her muzzle over his, sopping up his tears with her own fur. Though she did not forget about Pipaluk or the sadness that nestled within her, she tried to push it down for the time being."We'd best return or the pack is going to think we've abandoned them. I plan to hunt today. Everyone is hungry, yet no one does anything about it without some prompting, it seems." Rising to her paws, she motioned for him to follow. Whether he did or not was his choice, but she needed to hunt and he needed to eat.

At a slow lope, she moved back towards the pack. The pace would allow Attican to compose himself if he followed her. It didn't take long before they came into view. She noted that Xani had returned and seemed to be resting. There was also another wolf laying nearby. Resin knew each member of the pack, stragglers included and she had never seen this wolf before. Letting her pace die down to a walk, she crossed the snowy expanse, standing beside the new female, though she addressed Xani.

"Do you have enough energy for a hunt or would you rather watch the rest while we're away?" She eyed the blonde female momentarily. "Another addition, I see. It seems that everyone has the urge to travel South." Turning her attention fully to the foreign female, she nodded. "I am Resin. Alpha of the Scarpaw pack. Who might you be?"

Hrafn- Hunter- 46 Summers

He had stalked the reindeer for some time. Rather than kill them the moment he saw them, he allowed them to lead him back to the rest of the herd. The group was quite large. Seventy to a hundred reindeer milled about, their hooves digging into the snow to uncover the wilted, frozen grass beneath. The good thing about reindeer was that a full grown Great Wolf could bring one down on its own. They could also eat in on their own, so a great number would need to be killed.

Scanning the area, Hrafn hatched a plan. He could see a narrowing of the path up ahead. If he could get the rest of the pack to lay in wait, he and a few others would be able to drive the herd towards them. It would be easy pickings and everyone would eat well. It didn't look as if the herd planned on going anywhere. Some of them had even bedded down. He would have time to collect the pack and lead them to their feast.

Turning, he loped back towards the hungry group of wolves, collecting Curse on the way. "Change of plans. If we get a few more to come along, we'll be able to feed everyone." As he moved, he thought about the Alpha. He felt an intense need to impress her. Hopefully this would do the trick.

After a time, they made it back to the pack. Stopping, he scanned the congregation with his amber eyes, locating her quickly. Not only by her coloring, but by the way she held herself. Full of confidence, that one. Striding to her side, he waited for her to finish questioning what seemed to be a new member of the group. The gold and white female was quite becoming. Her likeness to his former mate saddened him, but he didn't let it show.

Seating his huge, bulky form, he wrapped his tail about his paws, waiting for his turn to speak. He'd already upset her once, though he still wasn't sure how. He'd rather not upset her again. Hrafn was on his best behavior. When the three females acknowledged him, he smiled and nodded respectfully. He would wait until the alpha addressed him to tell of his findings.

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

As Xani slept, she dreamt. It wasn't anything too memorable, except one thing stuck out to her- red. Everything in her dream was red. Red leaves, red eyes, blood. Everything red. It was rather disconcerting to her, but not enough to wake her up. She had had worse nightmares previously, and they had never meant anything before. They were simply replays of her past, like rewatching her life.

Though she was deeply asleep, Resin's approach woke her up rather easily. There was something off about her, and the way she was acting. At the sound of food, however, she perked up and sat up slowly. A long stretch and a quick shake helped wake her up a bit before she nodded. "I can hunt, as long as we don't go after a hoard of bears or anything crazy." She sat by quietly as Resin questioned Pilot, but couldn't help questioning her as well.

"Resin. You seem off... Or maybe I'm off. Something happened, didn't it? Or will?" She was making little sense, especially to herself, but her dream had left her a little rattled. She pawed at the ground slightly as she waited. As others approached, Xani turned towards them. It was a new male. Xani gave him a strange look, but nodded in greeting regardless.

Curse/Isis
{{Fae||fighter||36||W/Hfran and others||

She followed him silently back towards the pack with ease, remembering the old wolves words as the approached Resin, her eyes also trailing to Xani, she nodded her head slightly to the other fighter. As she listened to Resin as her if she wanted to hunt, and then questioning the blond wolf. Tilting her head she waited for an answer from this new wolf. She had come to realize in this short time here with this pack, Resin was far more accepting then her own father had been. Drago had been an acceptation to her father's tight grip on the pack, a mistake he wouldn't live to regret. She shook off that train of thought and waited to see what would happen next, Certain Hfran was going to tell the Alphaess about the reindeer.

She gazed at him, studying him silently taking in his large and dark frame, like Drago he was large, but unlike her former mate, he was strongly built and healthy to look upon. In his eyes she could see that he held all of his mind as his own, and was not held by the thrall of the visions that tore his mind apart. she continued watching him, his size did not hinder him, in fact it marked him as elegant, and sure of himself. She looked thoughtfully on, her gaze traveling from him, to the new blond wolf, who was a fae, she could smell that and on the smaller side, not as small as their idiot cousins but small none the less. She waited still to find out who she was, as next her eyes swept next to Xani, she knew the other fighter was tense, upset at the losses the pack had suffered.

She herself had not been close to those they'd loss, a kinship with Grimshaw, yes because of there then loner status, but this was not the same ache the rest of the pack felt, at the loss of Ash their beta, and Junco the lovely and sweet Omega. No, this pain they felt was the same as the one she had felt when she'd lost her family, her mother, father, her brother's her pups, And then she turned her head looking to Attican the wise keeper, she could see something was hurting him gravely but she remained silent as she waited to see what the plan would be.

Mirage
{{Brute||Omega||10|| W/Azaria|}}

When Mirage woke in the early light of dawn, the first thing he noticed was that the orphaned pup was gone. With a small huff of air, he pushed himself to his paws and searched the small valley quickly til finally his eyes landed on her small shape sitting upon a hill a short ways away. He shook himself out and stretched feeling the soreness of their rapid journey in his muscles. With a great yawn that shook his entire body he picked his way from the pile of pups, greeting a few of the parents as he passed as they were waking up preparing for the day. His dark gold gaze glinted like two coins in the early morning sun as he crossed the clearing soon climbing the small rise to settle at the pups side. Hearing her words. I'm sorry mamma, I'm sorry.

He closed his eyes looking up at the heavens silently for a second before finally lowering his head and nuzzling the little red wolf. It is not your fault, little one he said gently licking the top of her head. Your mother was very sick, she was suffering, the ancestors saw fit to take her to them, he explained gently. You will see her one day again, perhaps not tomorrow, but we all go to the heavens when we pass, your mother and father will be waiting for you when you arrive, as will your siblings, he paused and just licked her face gently trying to sooth the little wolf.

Kuolema
{{Brute||Loner/fighter||14||traveling south

Kuolema watched the dark wolf walk away, he would most likely always have issues with dark colored wolves, though he found he could trust the Alpha of the pack he was stalking. No no that was wrong he wasn't stalking them, or at least he wasn't meaning too. Something was telling him to stay with them, and he would listen to that something come morning, he would head the keeper of his former packs words Go where the Resin runs strong Those words so weird to him then 2 years back, now made all the sense in the world. He would join them and go where this journey took him. He curled into himself with in the log and soon sleep took him, he drifted in dreams of running and red lights, or trees he wasn't sure it was blurry and passed to quickly. But he was running and felt content and unworried for the first time in his life. He felt pleasant and warm, and secure, he smelled fresh food and even in his sleep he snipped at the air, taking bites of the meat he found in his dream, it was delicious and filled his achingly empty belly. With a jerk though he snorted awake his head flying upwards as he sneezed violently smashing his ears off the top of the log. He pulled himself out sneezing again, he shook his head followed by his entire body hard, as a third and final sneeze shook him.

"ugh," he licked at his lips and shook his head again, he took a deep breath sniffing the cold morning air, before he turned and headed for the valley, his white and black form melting through the shadows till he broke through the tree's his dark brown eyes floating about taking in the pack as it slowly woke, he saw a few closer to him shift and look in his direction, he could see their worry in their stances, but he didn't worry himself, he may smell like his father, but he was not his father. Year of living with one so sick had left a foul smell to him, it was not nearly as strong as the sickly smell his father carried in his later years, but it was there. He was a strong, healthy wolf, with nothing as far as he knew wrong with him. He let his tongue lowl out and he waved his tail before seating himself. "Morning!" He called cheerfully the wolves eying him quickly turned away and trotted away from him. "huh, rude," he mumbled out loud. "well I'm here old man, let us see what happens shall we?

Resin-Alpha Female- 40 Summers

Xani's concern caught her off guard just a bit. She hadn't thought that the fighter would care if something was amiss with one of her packmates. The concern warmed her and she offered the lighter female a nod. "Pipaluk. She's gone." Seating herself, she sat tall, curling her tail about her large black paws. "She was old and she felt her time was near, so she wandered off to die." A soft, sad smile formed upon her maw and she met the fighters gaze with her own sulfur colored orbs. "It never seems to end, does it?" Xani would know exactly what she was talking about.

Her body wasn't tired, but her mind was exhausted. Everyone still needed to eat, however, so with a tired sigh, she rose to her feet, stretching her forelegs and splaying her toes. "Might as well head out and see what we can scrounge up." Noting the expression on Xani's face, she turned and saw Hrafn sitting there, waiting patiently. Once more heat rose to her cheeks without her permission. "Xani, this is Hrafn. Hrafn, Xani. He found us after we rescued Pipaluk."

Darkness clouded her eyes and she turned back to the black wolf, intent on keeping her emotions bottled away. "Was there something that you needed, Hrafn?" Hopefully he was here for some specific reason and he wasn't just stalking her again. That would have gotten annoying quite fast. She was glad that he'd stopped after their last encounter.

Curse followed along with him and she nodded to her, her tail swishing behind her ever so lightly. She truly did like the former straggler. Every time that she saw her, she thanked the ancestors for bringing her to the Scarpaw pack. Not only was she an asset, the Alpha felt that she could relate to the other female. Something that wasn't common for her.

A commotion from across the way caught her attention. The young male that had hidden in the log last night was out and about. He was loud and happy, but that was youth for you. Raising her voice a bit, she called him to her. She was intent on finding out this pups name and whether or not he was planning on joining the group.

Hrafn-Hunter-46 Summers

He listened to the females speak to one another. He was purely shocked when he heard of Pipaluk wandering off to die. The pep and energy in the little old spitfire didn't even hint at illness. At her age, however, she would know when she was ready to die. Silently, he wished the old wolf a safe journey.

His attention focused on the Alpha once more, then upon the pretty little thing behind her. When Resin introduced them, the massive black wolf shot the light colored femme a winning smile and nodded his head in return to her nod. This pack was just full of healthy looking ladies, it seemed.

Dark amber eyes met the much brighter ones of Resin and he motioned towards the land behind him. "Curse and I have found a large herd of reindeer southwest of here. There's also a narrow passage which they could be herded into. If other members of the pack hide within the brush on the sides, we should be able to take down quite a few of them since they're such an easy kill. We could definitely feed everyone tonight." There he went again, speaking like he ruled the pack. Maybe that was why Resin had been upset with him the night before. He was a born leader and it was difficult to shut off, but he would have to try if he wished to win himself into her good graces.

"If you believe that's a good plan, I'll take down as many as I can. We'll need some fast paws to stir them up and herd them towards the opening. I'm too big of a guy to be good at that, but I'll do whatever you need me to do." Behind him, his dark tail swished back and forth. Pleasing her would please him. He hoped that he was doing it right. His social skills were a bit rusty after all of his time alone. At some point he would need to take the Alpha aside and let her know a bit of history. If she cared to hear it, anyway.

Still his tail swished as he awaited her orders. As he waited, he made a mental list of things to not do when he was around her. Don't be bossy. Don't be assuming. Be a little vulnerable. Ask rather than tell. Be charming, but not overly so. Again he thought about how it had been so long since he'd been near another wolf. The females of this pack were driving him a little crazy. The loud greeting behind him barely registered until Resin opened her pretty dark maw and called to someone. When the young male drew close, Hrafn greeted him with a nod and dismissed him from thought.

((*sniffle* Poor Attican, it breaks my heart to see him like that. I could say the same for Pippa, but at least she is happy now... The news will feel strange for Ahote, when he finds out.))

Ahote
Male | 46 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

In his fitful sleep, Ahote's thoughts still buzzed, circling round and round in the darkness. Though his sleep was far too shallow to afford him any real dreams, snatches of visions and images flashed across his mind's sight, worming their way in between the constant prattle of his thoughts. Once he saw his mother, the look on her face was one of pure disappointment, but before he could reason why, it disappeared, replaced with Pippa. The tottering old wolf was laughing at him, but this two swirled away, and in its stead was a vision of the mountains that hugged the horizon of his old pack-lands, cold and unreachable. Then there was Curse, and Ash, they turned away and were replaced with blood stained snow, a sight which he had seen far too much of. This slowly faded to black, only to be replaced with the sight of trees, strange red leaves waving on in the wind. This one though was skewed and dim, as though he didn't really know what it looked like and his mind was trying to make it up. It was what he had envisioned Resin's dreams had looked like, a poor interpretation from her descriptions and nothing more. Eventually it became incoherent and faded away, leaving him alone with his thoughts before another shape slowly appeared. Dark against the darkness, a figure slowly formed, and at first he was not sure he was actually seeing it until it turned and he saw its eyes. The color of the sun as it pooled over the ocean at sunrise, eyes of such color could only belong to Resin. Seeing her, he felt heartened for a moment, but she too turned her head and was taken back by the darkness.

Desperately, Ahote wanted to follow her. To disappear into that deep night and be at peace with her, but his mind would not let him. What right had he to follow her? She was an Alpha, and not just a good one, but a great one. He had had his shot and had failed. That singular point haunted the big wolf's every hour, and even now into his restless sleep it followed. Sending him into a never ending spiral of guilt and self depreciation that continually threatened to bring him down with it, leading him exactly towards what he feared the most: being alone. Why should he stay here? He presence was surely a burden on the pack. Was it his own greed that kept him here?

Just as Ahote's tumultuous thoughts started down that path, he was suddenly surrounded in warmth. It flooded the darkness and in an instant a comforting calm came over him. Letting out a contented sigh, his restless form leaned into it, eager for its welcoming embrace. For the first time in days his mind is at rest, and he soon follows, falling into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Hours passed, and by the time Ahote finally awoke, he found himself cold and alone at the top of the hill he had been sitting on. Feeling hollow, as though something important had left him in his sleep, he sat up and stretched, craning his neck until his nose pointed straight up towards the sky. For a long moment he stayed like that, closing his eyes agains the snow and breathing deeply, trying to come back to himself before looking back down over the pack. Attican had gone, and Lani sits in his place, looking decidedly pleased with herself, which can only mean the poor Keeper has once again been subjected to her torment. Xani has returned, and Resin speaks with her, with Hrafn at her side. This brings a momentary frown to his face, as from his perspective it seems as though the two have been inseparable since their meeting. For some reason, he doesn't like that one bit, even though he should be happy to see that she is not alone. Just on the other side of the two large dark wolves, he spots a bond and tan pelt that he doesn't recognize. From the size, he can only assume that it is a fea, and most likely what had kept Xani out so long last night. Overall, it looks as though everyone had been busy while he slept, and getting along just fine without him.

With a sigh, Ahote got up to his feet and shook the snow off of his coat and padded down the hill, crossing off the other side from Resin and the others so that he might have time to think before joining them. Footsteps muffled by the soft coating of fresh snow, he has just about to turn back around when he comes across something that stops him in his tracks. The snow here has been disturbed as though some great struggle had taken place, and spattered with a spray of blood. The sight of it makes his hair stand on end, and he cautiously moves to investigate. What could have happened here that would not have awoken him where he slept only a few yards away? Scrutinizing the scene only creates more questions than it answers, as there is only one set of tracks leading to and away, and if they fought with anyone at all, they left no sign at all. It is only when he picks up a scent that he realizes what he is looking at, and Ahote's blood runs cold: Kiera.

Heart pounding in his chest, Ahote follows the trail that leads away, the spattering of blood gradually becoming heavier and heavier until it completely fills the paw print. Off it lead, out into the trees, and as he passed under the shade of the trees, Ahote felt a chill pass over him. Not more than a few hundred strides from the edge of the trees sat Kira, her small form covered in her own blood. Panting heavily as though she had run for miles, the fea seemed unaware of the fighter as he approached, and soon her muzzle turned back over her side and she began chewing on her fur. This seemed to call up an itch from somewhere, but as her back foot went up to scratch her ear, she growled and snapped at it, giving it a sharp bite as though in warning to keep away. Arrested by the scene, Ahote stood slack-jawed at the sight. It was only then that he noticed her front foot was missing, and from her actions, he could only guess what had happened to it.

There was no doubt now that Kira was infected. That pup that he had throttled must have gotten to her, and the timid fea had been too frightened to tell anyone. Watching her in her fervor, Ahote felt sick, as though everything he had ever eaten wanted to crawl back up his maw and rejoin the herd it came from. He knew what he had to do, there was no choice now but to put her out of her misery, and protect the pack. Stepping forward, Ahote looked at the little fea with pity, "Kira..." he began to say, wanting to at least explain himself, tell her he was sorry for what he was about to do.

However, Ahote's task was not about to be so easy, and Kira's head shot up at the sound of his voice. A savage snarl curled her lips into a grotesque mask, "Get... Back... Stay... Away..." she said, her halting voice full of fear and stain though her expression was one of pure rage.

Taken aback, Ahote hesitated, and that was a mistake. Kira leapt up and lunged at him, her teeth snapping next to his ear as he pulled back. The two circled each other, her ruined leg making a sickening sucking sound as she pushed the stump of bone into the ground. A growl deep in his throat, it was Ahote's turn to leap and he managed to make contact, knocking her back against a tree as he brought the full force of his wight against her side. The fighter was nearly twice her size and weight, and this fight should have been no contest, but Kira's sickness made her erratic, and unpredictable. With a squeal, she squirmed away from his next attack, sending Ahote sprawling face-first in the snow. The spry wolf spun away and ran, headed straight back for the pack.

In an instant, Ahote was back on his feet, shaking his head as he tried to free himself from the snow that stung his eyes. Seeing the course the small wolf now took, fear took hold of Ahote and he lifted his head, calling out a warning to the rest of the pack. Leaping after her, he pushed his tired body after her, his claws digging for purchase in the soft snow. By the time she reached the edge of the trees, he was on her again, and with one last leap he caught the back of her hock with his paw and sent she spinning out into the clearing.

Lani
Female | 57 | Hunter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Proud as pudding, Lani sat happily in Attican's nest. She was quite full of herself, and fully intended to lounge in her triumph until it was time to move on. Thus is how Resin finds her, like a stout hen sitting on her eggs in the snow and in response to the Alpha's genteel nod, she barked back a chipper greeting of her own. "G'morning, boss. Lovely day, isn't it?" she said, not surprised when the Alpha didn't stop to chat. Almost no one would willingly hold a conversation of more than a few words with her, which was probably for the best as would only encourage her.

There she stayed, until the Alpha reappeared, looking even more morose than ever. What was it with these leader types that made them so moody? She thought, and got to her feet. Lani had been half hoping that Resin would bring Attican back with her, but it seems as if he is slow to return. Looking back the way they had all come and gone, she is just about to go after him herself when she hears Resin speak of going on a hunt. This of course, is right up the hunter's alley, and she decides that her lover can wait just a few more hours for her to return, and instead pads over to where the other four have gathered. Sparing a grin and a nod for both Xani and the new fea, she plops herself down next to the handsome black male to listen. Convivial as always, she wasn't phased by the newcomers at all.

Before further talk of the hunt can take place though, a sharp sounding bark cuts through the still air, and Lani jumps in surprise. Ahote's warning stirs up many of the wolves who still sleep, and a murmur spread over them. Seconds later, the little silver form of Kira comes flipping end over end out of the woods, with the fighter, Ahote hot on her heels. The sight brings a start even to Lani, and she quails back from the scene, backing into the press of the larger wolves.

((Edit: Sorry if this seems a little out of place, but I started writing it like five posts ago and gave up on editing it again and again. I just wanted to wrap up Kira before we got too much further.))

{{Ah man, gone for two or so hours and all of a sudden I'm worlds behind heh! Also I had a veeeeery slight idea that Resin and Pipa may be related of some sorts, but with Pipa being from a different pack and never speaking about anything in that nature I just brushed it off. Shoulda stuck with my gut. heh. SECONDARY also - Lani has me cracking up Soriams. She's too perfect, ha.}}

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Attican took the embrace warmly from Resin, his own neck craning over hers as well. He listened to her words but to be completely honest not much of it sunk in too deep quite yet. It would, but not in the instant. All of what she spoke he knew, but to hear it coming out of someone else's mouth besides his own for a change would help pull him from his desperate state.

A few more silent tears dripped from his cheeks, rolling down the Alpha's sooty colored back. his mouth opened and closed several times, his words seeming to be carried away by the air several times. Resin pulled back and looked at his face, changing direction in her comforting talk.

"We'll see them again. I promise you. They're probably following us around right now the same as Pipa's mate."

An unexpected belly laugh escaped the brute on that one, the sides of his face pulling into a lopsided grin. "Ahehe.." he laughed, his eyes still glassy from the crying. "Oh god I'm so sorry to anyone who has to see me at all times," he chuckled, thinking about all the embarrassing things that he just realized that they could probably actually see. "I love you sweetie." He chuckled wryly, speaking to the air as if his mate were actually right there.

And just with that, the broken pieces that Attican had fallen into, began to shift back together. He still wasn't fully okay, to be honest not many wolves were right now and one single talk wasn't going to mend everything. But Resin had given him that glimmer of hope that he needed to pick himself back up to carry forward once more. He wasn't alone after all, there was still her. And no way was he going to leave her alone.

"I won't leave you. I couldn't ever bare to do that." His head shook, his voice becoming more even. Her drying his tears brought that welcome rumble to his chest, his face once again warming up from the cold it had been in.

"You go ahead, I promise that I won't be too far behind you." He said, motioning towards the mass group. "I just need another minute or so to you know, compose."

The Keeper watched the receding figure of the Alpha, walking and then disappearing together over the embankment. His face pulled to a thin line, staring out at the horizon Pipaluk had vanished to. "Best of luck to you," he spoke, knowing that probably somehow the Eldest would get the message. Slowly he stood up to his feet, fluffing his pelt out again by shaking it. He had just taken a few steps forward when another thought bubbled to his head. He turned around again, facing the horizon. "And one more thing to your mate, sorry for calling her an Ancient Beauty!"

Pilot
32 - Fae - Straggler

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Having bunkered down near Xani, Pilot too had gotten some time to rest up. Her dreams were nice and peaceful, the simple fact of being actually protected for once working wonders on her sleep. But of course rest must end sometime and eventually the sound of another female woke up the blonde.

"I am Resin. Alpha of the Scarpaw pack. Who might you be?"

Ohhh.... Pilot's eyes widened, her laying position only enhancing Resin's large size. The Alpha was a girl. Quickly the female stood up, instincts kicking in to bow respectively. "I am Pilot." She replied, nodding her head in gesture to her name. "Xani came and scouted me out, telling me about your travels South."

Just as she finished talking, a hulking black male seemed to come out of literal nowhere. Her eyes widened even more, taking in his massive size. Yeah sure she was smaller... but WHAT were they feeding these guys?? During this time Resin's attention diverted and different wolves she assumed were being talked about. She knew none of them so none of it made much sense or gave her any concern.

Finally the Alpha started talking about going out for a hunt. Hey, now there was something she could do! She was about to offer her services, but before she could say anything yet more wolves came into the mix. More than anything the female now felt like she was in a big oogling circle, nearly everyone that appeared taking strange glances at the newcomer. But who could blame them really? After all, she was a new face. While her senses were high, none of it seemed threatening so for the most part she didn't mind too much. Once again back on topic of a hunt, the large brute talked about some caribou herds not too far away. "I can help." She chimed in, pulling from her haunches to a standing pose. Her tail swished once, her intentions honestly kind. "If anyone is hungry right now, I do actually have a kill at the bottom of the East hill. It won't feed everyone, but if anyone is particularly needing..."

Her voice trailed off, her attention drawn to the treeline. Suddenly two wolves came bursting forth, one bloody, the chaser snarling.
