Although at first kind-of excited to be alone, Juliette was quick to realize that she really wasn't ready for the adventure that she had just been given. It was really hard to walk around covered in hardened mud, which she just HAD to roll in when she saw it. Now she realised how much she hated being alone. There wasn't a single familiar smell, apart from that squirrel or mouse she detected every so often. Her nose, the size of a large blackberry, couldn't pick out any dog or human smells.
Hoping to reach a stream where she could wash that mud off, Juliette started walking. However, a dog can't go really far when their legs are the size of small twigs and their long fur starts clinging to every bramble they comes across. Juliette had to admit it -she was lost, lonely, and daydreaming of expensive food and her owners' whinging.
Sitting down on a small log, Juliette was getting tired, thirsty and hungry. She started whining, crying, hoping that by some of that 'magic' that humans talk about somebody nice would come and take her home.
What hurt most was the realization how much she took her previous life for granted.
Juliette suddenly saw the glint of something in the corner of her eye. She followed it to just find a shiny bit of human litter.
Bones. She was hoping to find a stream or a puddle or something.
Since she was already standing up, the tiny showdog decided to carry on and hopefully get somewhere. She soon came across a stream. It was muddy and unclean, but she couldn't bear her thirst so she slowly sipped the water. She also walked into a shallow bit and washed off that dry mud, since even heavy, wet fur was better than a muddy pelt.
The nearby trees had a nice, cool shade. Tail drooping in sadness, Juliette lay down in the earth and started wondering, trying to ignore her rumbling stomach, sniffing what was left of her owners' beautiful smell on her pelt.
