Tomoe laughed jovially as he hide his face behind his fan as he watched all the little tykes running around, their joyful shouts filling the vibrate walls. The couple that he had welcome were now moving further in, their little girl with blond hair what was tied in a braid holding each of their hands, swinging them back and forth as children often did. The sight made the physic pokemon grin, the sight reminding him of his past trainer Clair. He and Clair would often do the same thing when they traveled. Holding hands and swinging the clasped limbs back and further, enjoying the warmth between them.

Lost his thoughts of the past, Tomoe missed the arrival of his friend, Karus, who had entered the store. But he did hear the bell.

"Oh?" He muttered, turning with a smile at the ready to greet another traveler to the wonders of his kingdom.

"Hello~ And wel-huh?"

But no one was there.

Tomoe cocked his head in confusion. He could have swore he heard someone come in. Hmming under his breath, Tomoe try to figure out this strange occurrence when a flash of blonde hair whipped passed his large display window, followed by a trail of a brown coat. A familiar brown coat.

"Was that...K-chan?" The king asked out loud to himself, blinking. Did K-chan come in to vist him? Aw, that was sweet of him~ But wait, if he did then why did he leave so suddenly? Was it because he saw that the shopkeeper was busy in the store and thought not to bother him? Hmmm, that might be it. But then, K-chan would have waited if he wish to speak to Tomoe, so that brought up the question, what made him leave so suddenly?

Tapping the edge of his closed fan to his lips, Tomoe continued to puzzle over this strange 'flash-and-dash' from his friend. Very strange indeed. Could K-chan have been upset by something from his 'mystery' past? Perhaps a certain toy he spied on the rows of shelves behind him? Well now, this got more interesting, and it was up to he, Tomoe to find what was troubling his dear friend! This looked like a job for King Tomoe to investigate!

"By any chance, would you have any toy Litleo's?"

As soon as he was done with work!

"Absolutely!" Tomoe turn to face another traveler of his lands. This one was a cute girl, possibly a high schooler or a college girl on her school break perhaps? She seem young enough. Her long brown hair was tied in twin side ponytails, the length reaching to her mid arm. She wore casual street cloths, which frame her figure nicely. Over all, a very pleasant girl, but that wasn't what caught the man's attention.

It was her aura. It was orange and red. It blazed like a fire, or a small candle with how small it was. It the the aura of something non-human.

Tomoe pulled his fan out and hide his lower face, to cover the sly smile that was creeping on his pale features. Ah~ha, so that was what she was, hmm? A fire pokemon, and still a young one at that. How every inserting.. Although he was no Lucario, the Kirla could see aura from time from time. However, it was a skill that tired him out, so he try no to use it too long.

His kind where more attune to emotions, no matter how hidden. But, to protect the little ones that came into his shop day in and day out, Tomoe try to read the aura of each shopper that came though his doors, to see if they present a danger to him or his 'subjects'. Feeling the creeping edge of his nerves began to show after using this technique, Tomoe gentle fanned himself, shutting 'off' his powers.

Putting on his 'lowly but handsome' shopkeeper act, Tomoe waved a hand to the back walls of the store, where the majority of the stuff animals were held.
"Your in luck~ I just revived an order of Poke Dolls straight from Karlos itself!"

Tome began to lead the pokemon in disguise to the wall. The rows of dolls welcomed them with their glass eyes, which glittered with the string of Christmas lights that hung over their fluff filled heads.

"Have you been there, Karlos I meant." Tomoe asked, hiding his face behind his feather fan.

Karus wasn't smiling, but the scowl had softened on his face at least. The blonde woman in uniform strode towards him after making brief eye contact, clearly aware that he was seeking assistance. She seemed to force a patient smile, but Karus could see right through her scarlet lips. Presumably she had already dealt with an angry customer or two that day, and he didn't want to add his face to her list. Pursing his lips, the man stood before the manager and listened as she spoke.

"Yes, I should like to hope that you could help me." He said as patiently as he could manage, trying to look less annoyed that he felt. "I'm looking for the stationery. It would seem that things have moved around since last week." This was as calm and as polite as Karus could manage; he didn't indeed to make a scene. Attracting attention was the last thing he needed. Returning to the laboratories as a test subject upon being discovered was not how he intended to live out his days.

He was over thinking things again. Karus returned his attention to the matter at hand and looked to the manager lady expectantly. She has blonde hair - paler than his, closer to a yellow rather than a gold colour. Her eyes were a pale shade of blue, framed by black lashes. Even her skin was pale. Yet her lips were such a strong shade of red that Karus couldn't look at them too long: her lipstick was perfectly applied. Otherwise, she looked plain but authoritative, with her tidy uniform, a glint of sharpness in her eyes, and a manager tag pinned to her shirt. The tag read 'Manager - Sasha', indicating the woman's name.

Shoulders relaxing just ever so slightly, Karus added, "If you would point me in the right direction, that would be appreciated."

Sasha had no idea if her ploy had worked on the man, so guarded were his eyes. What was easily given away, however, was his predicted annoyance. His suppressed tone of impatience was nothing more than expected, but Sasha felt her small smile darken nonetheless. 'I should like to hope that you could help me.' Something about that phrasing was irritating but finding little annoyances in other people wasn't at all rare for her anyway. She listened on, finding some comfort in the man's forced tone of courteousness. This had quickly evolved into a game of pretence. Who could maintain their facade of patience whilst the other succumbed to heated anger? Thus far, it was an ongoing battle that she could safely say she had never lost, which was fortunate for someone who intended to keep their job.

And so he came to the problem: stationery. Sasha almost smirked at that but managed to catch herself, trying to distract the man with a tiny nod instead. Was this guy really worked up over the loss of office supplies from his life? Unbelievable. She nodded again, this time understandingly, and cast a quick glance over the customer's shoulder to see that, sure enough, only half of the normal supplies were present. "So it has." the manager said placidly, though she noticed the impertinence behind it now. Careful there. Quickly, she started scanning the previous display with little interest before flicking her gaze back to him as if expecting more of an explanation as to why this was a problem.

After a quick, rather self indulgent pause for whatever effect, she briefly added on, "All the pens, pencils and other writing utensils have been moved to the cards." in the usual informative manner.

Truly, the separation of all the stationery had been relatively pointless. The writing equipment had been moved next to the birthday cards so unapologetic individuals who had forgotten whatever important family celebration could also get a pen to write out on the letter they had hastily brought. Unfortunately that meant splitting up the display and causing minor disturbances to people like the individual that stood before her.

And to Sasha's faint surprise, the said individual's frame seemed to relax, though maybe that was a trick of the light? Or maybe, just maybe, he was starting to realise his pencils and sharpeners were not the end of the world? Either way, even more politeness had eased into the man's wording which she showed no thankfulness for. The same look of harsh apathy lingered at the back of her eyes as she quickly surveyed stationery man.

"It would be easier for me to show you, if you'd like to follow?" she said evenly after his request for directions. Whether he was happy with the offer or not, Sasha was already sauntering away, across the aisles this time. Occasionally she would listen for the footfall of his boots on the hard floor below: walking off with purpose and then realising the purpose had disappeared was embarrassing. And she had no intention of embarrassing herself in front of her kingdom of shoppers. But it wasn't long before the destination was reached.

"Here it is, the rest of the stationery." she whisked around and beckoned to the small row of shelves, not even bothering to try and sound interested in office supplies. The display was stocked with most of the writing equipment they had to offer, which presumably was what he wanted.

With that duty done, Sasha made to leave but stopped mid-stride, much to her own visible surprise. Instead of walking away like wanted, she craned her neck around a bit and found herself suddenly staring at stationery man with intensity particularly strange for herself. What? Immediately suspicious at her instinct to halt, she allowed herself to get a proper look at the stranger.

There was nothing special about him, from the tied-back hair and heavy-looking brown coat. His most interesting feature was the look of genuine tiredness etched around his eyes. Nothing. He was nothing. How highly irregular, Sasha thought absentmindedly. And pointless. Despite this, she still retained her position, though in a dream-like manner as her thoughts drifted off from the present world.

It was obvious that the employee was uninterested, but regardless, she nodded stiffly as he spoke and explained the situation briefly. Even so, she was straightforward and informative, which was all Karus cared about. In his head, he thought of how silly the movement of the pens from one part of the store to the opposite row of aisles was both pointless and unnecessary. The next thing he knew, he was trailing along behind her as one does when being led by an employee to a particular aisle or shelf in a supermarket. He looked about himself as he walked, noticing that biscuits had been moved next to the bakery aisle. There were other small differences like this that flickered an annoyance in him - stupid people moving everything and just making the matter of purchasing a packet of biscuits more time consuming. Hands barely moving as he walked along, Karus turned his gaze to the back of the manager's blonde head. Her platinum locks barely moved as she strode ahead, leading the way to the stationery.

When the manager - her name was Sasha, he knew, but somehow him knowing her name and her being unaware of his made it difficult to address her with her actual name - turned around to point out the stationery, she surveyed him with a cool gaze. It was quite plain that she held no interest in his annoyance in supermarket changes, and her eyes gave the expression that she was doing her job and no more. Nevertheless, in a tone that was strained with patience, Karus said, "Thank you,". Even as he went to pluck a few black biro pens from the shelf by the cards, the blonde manager continued to watch him, presumably to ensure that his pen needs were met. Cautious of her gaze, Karus took a five-pack of pens and turned on his heel to face the manager again. She was still staring at him. With a blank look across his face, the man opened his mouth to say a quick thanks but the words would not come.

There was something about her. About her eyes? Her expression? The way she held herself? Karus wasn't sure. His mind flooded with possibilities as he mentally went through a deduction of the manager woman. Good posture, blue eyes, guarded. Ordinary. An ordinary person working in an ordinary supermarket in an ordinary city. Still the thought of something being just slightly off about her echoed in his mind, ringing with curiosity. She had one of those generic kind of faces - you could see it in a post office, at a museum, a supermarket. It was the kind of face that one could remember or forget in time. "Thank you, again, for your help. I have what I need." he said in a rather sudden manner, showing her the pens in his hand as if to prove himself. His tone had a sense of finality about it, but in the back of his mind there was still that thought that, perhaps, she wasn't as she seemed.

ℓσяєℓєι . вυηєαяу
basic facts
- twenty-three
- female
- single
- receptionist
- tagged; Haruka, Tomoe
- location; Tomoe's Kingdom of Hope
- word count;

ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʟɪғᴇ ɪs ᴡᴏʀᴛʜ ʟɪᴠɪɴɢ

Smiling at the family in front of her, she handed them the leaflets about the competition that was going to occur. "Mummy, when can I get a pokemon?" The little girl was oozing charm and happiness, and it was obvious that she hadn't heard Ghetsis at some point.
"You're too young, my dear." Her mum let her down gently, and she lifted her face to Lorelei's level and rolled her eyes. "We'll be back in an hour for the contest, Lorelei." Of course, these were regulars, and Lorelei would have thanked whoever was around as she finally remembered the family's names.
"I'll see you then, Violet." Lorelei said with a smile, before looking down at the little girl, who was currently crying over the fact that she was too young to get a pokemon. "I'm sure your dad will let you play with his, I know that all pokemon absolutely adore playing with you, Misty." The little girl's sobbed quietly, but her watery eyes looked up to her dad, and the trio moved away from Lorelei with a wave and some goodbyes, still talking about pokemon.
Sighing and sitting back in her seat, her mind moved from the present to the past, and a young boy called Kamon, who had been her best friend. For she did know about pokemon and young children, she had been in that situation - but on the other half of the equation.
Because she was a pokemon. In disguise.
She was still musing over this when her boss came over, talking at her. Blinking her eyes and coming out of her reverie, Lorelei blushes, and asked, "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" The man rolled his eyes - the second person already today to do that - and said, "I asked whether you'd be able to go down to Tomoe's Kingdom of Hope to pick up the plush toys."
"But what about the tickets?" She asked, confused - surely there were other people who were more suited to that? Lorelei was, after all, the receptionist. "I wouldn't ask if I didn't need you to." Smiling so that she could conceal her confusion, she got to her feet, accepted her task, and picked up the small pale bag by her feet. "The owner should know that you're coming."
"Okay, okay, I'll do it." Lorelei found herself muttering this as she exited the Contest building, hooking her bag over her shoulder and darting between the streets swelling with people. Every now and then there were young children, some playing with pokemon while others played by themselves, and she couldn't help but smile at them as she passed. At one point a very agitated man passed her, clutching a sandwich bag, and she made sure to keep away from him - he was not someone she would normally talk to.

At times she looked from left to right, taking in the shops. Although she lived in this city, she didn't often come down here - she preferred the quiet of the streets on the outskirts of town and the small shops there. Having said that, Lorelei hadn't actually been to Tomoe's Kingdom of Hope before, so she wasn't sure what to expect. A dingy dark shop down some alley? A large airy department store? She wasn't sure.
She definitely didn't expect what stood before her now. It was amazing. There were a pair of Serperior and Scolipede standing guard out the front, and she could see the mounds of toys that enticed her to go in there.
"Welcome to my kingdom wary traveler! As king of this castle, I, King Tomoe, hope you find what you are seeking in my mighty halls-shoot, come back here!"
The voice that wafted out of the store was the final straw, it was so happy and welcoming, and she couldn't help herself but go in. She was in the store in time to see the old yellowing chair in the centre, and the man who must have just been sitting in there was leading a brown haired woman to the back of the store.

"- would you have any toy Litleo's? -"

Hesitantly, she followed them, feeling uncharacteristically nervous. There was something...a little off about this pair, but she couldn't quite tell. Shrugging that off, Lorelei wondered what she was going to say, and stood a part from them, before she finally managed to say, "Excuse me, I was wondering whether you could help me? I work up...at..the Contest building, and I've been told that you were expecting me?"

I'm sorry about the wait. >.< }}

Tomoe gently fanned himself as he waited for a reply for the pokemon in disguise. The only thing he could see standing behind the female was that her back was tense, shoulder jerking up slightly at either surprise or shock, he couldn't feel which one yet, the emotions tumbling and turning like a ocean or a peaceful lake that suddenly had a large stone tossed in the middle of it, wild waves follow it in a suddenly exposition of action. Pausing in his regal fanning of his graceful face, Tomoe parted his lips to push further at the 'weary traveler' before another voice cut though. A female voice.

"Excuse me?"

"Hmm?" Tomoe hmmed, looking over his shoulder at another pretty lady that entered his kingdom. He seem to be getting alot of those as a late.

Cascading blond hair fell around slim shoulder and an equally figure as the woman blinked up at the King, her long black lashes curtaining a pair of jewel like sapphires that she called her eyes. The woman had a gentle look about her, soft and quite, much like a Mareep while grazing in green pastures on a mid summers day.
"I was wondering whether you could help me? I work up...at..the Contest building, and I've been told that you were expecting me?" The blonde asked, her voice just as soft as her image.

Giving the shorter woman a kind smile, Tomoe snapped his fan with a well practice flick of his wrist. Tapping the closed end to his bottom lip, Tomoe thought about the contest woman's inquire.
"Hmm, let's see....yes, yes, I believe I did. Your..Lolly? No?" Tomoe said when he caught her confused look. Giving a shake of his head, he excused himself from Haruka to help his new traveler.

"This way Miss." Tomoe lead the Contest woman towards the front desk, which was really on the side of the store instead of the front. Would it still be called a front desk if it was in a different position? A side desk then? A middle desk maybe? Or perhaps a back desk? Hmm, that didn't roll off the tongue quite as nicely as a front desk. In any event, the King of the castle busy himself behind the old wooden check out, pulling out draws, fingering files as he muttered under his breath as he searched.

"Lets see. Contest Hall, Contest Hall, under the name..." Here Tomoe pause, looking confused. Then, flushing with embarrassment, the might king rubbed the back of his head with his free hand. "Y-you know. I never did quite get that name, ha-ha-ha, Miss-?" Tomoe sheepishly asked, closing his ice blue eyes.

"Thank you, again, for your help. I have what I need."

Blinking back to the present, Sasha found herself staring at the second aggravated man of the day with her head slightly tilted. Oh, he was still there. Straightening herself and running her fingers through a stray lock of platinum hair, the manager briefly processed what had just been said. Another thank you, but with a voice that was noticeably stilted. Her steely eyes glanced down and narrowed at his outstretched hand, revealing the humble biros he had so worried about before. So? Briefly, she wondered if he wanted her to validate his choice in pens, but he was most likely looking for a quick escape route from the situation.

"My pleasure." she acknowledged coolly, purposefully trailing off with her speech to hold him and quickly gather her thoughts. Her thoughts being that she should try and settle the disturbance in her mind. Sasha felt her unexplainable mistrust in the blonde man continue to fester and with every passing moment, she felt herself getting more annoyed and worked up with him. What was his game? She had nothing solid against him, but she trusted her instinct that he wasn't much...good. Well, he did have that big coat: obviously for stealing things and other terrible crimes against humanity.

A question quickly cropped up in her thought cycle that seemed a decent enough question. So say it, she told herself bitterly, her scarlet lips pulled back into the beginnings of a scowl. "You wouldn't be hiding anything, would you sir?" she finally heard herself inquiring quietly, honing in her light eyes to calmly search his own earthy ones. Despite an undertone that was tainted with a dangerous edge, a lack of accusation was present in her voice. For that, it may well have been an offhand question about his opinion on the weather.

Just when he was about to move on, the manager spoke to him. Looking to her again, he glimpsed another customer at the end of the aisle, browsing the Birthday cards. Karus hid back his inner laughter as she spoke. Hiding something? More like hiding everything. With a plain and blank expression, he blinked. "Nothing worth hiding, ma'am." he replied in an flat tone, "But no, I didn't steal anything, if that's what you're implying." As he said this, the blonde man pulled out the pockets of his oversized coat to reveal a tissue and a few copper coins. He gave the coat a quick ruffle to show that the inner pockets were empty. Looking at her with a slightly raised eyebrow, Karus sighed, shrugged, and was just about to turn on his heel when something caught his attention.

The man was lingering at the end of the aisle. He'd been there several minutes, pondering over cards, but there was something very unsettling about him. His face was generic - the kind you could see a hundred times but not remember. The man was tall, dressed all in black but for a silver and blue pin on his jacket. The recognizable emblem of Team Plasma and their supporters. Instantly, Karus tensed. The man glanced at him - subtly, but still. He had a heavy-looking bag slung over one shoulder. Karus didn't want to find out what was inside.

"I should go," he started, casting a wary gaze at the man. Backing away slowly, Karus could feel his senses heightening as instincts kicked in. The manager - Sasha - looked at him with a frown. Just as he was about to dodge out of the aisle, the man turned and stared straight at him. In a flourish, he had a weapon in his hand, whipped out from the bag he had been carrying. The backpack fell to the ground and everything began to move very quickly. The man's weapon shot out a ray of electric-blue light as the trigger was pulled. Barely quick enough, Karus ducked down and felt his stomach drop. Grabbing the manager's wrist sharply before the man could fire another shot, Karus dragged her around the corner and began to run.

The supermarket was empty. They must have known. Gritting his teeth, Karus widened his eyes and kept running even at the sound of the man's footsteps racing after them. Shots of blue energy shot over Karus's shoulder, nearly hitting him as he dodged about down another aisle. Skidding around another corner, Karus could feel a plan already plotted in his mind. All he had to do was be quick enough to carry it out.

Left, right, right, right, left. Adrenaline pumped through his veins, pushing him onwards. He couldn't shift back to true form - not now, at least. He had to be relaxed, calm, focused for that. What he could do, though, was run for that back exit. The front would surely be crowded with foes, but the back.. they probably suspected to catch him without so much as a chase. The armed man was a few aisles behind, and as a way to throw him off the trail, Karus opened and slammed a door through to the store rooms as he ran past. Dodging down away from there, Karus stopped himself and the manager and watched as the man threw open the door and began to run through to the stores.

Good. Karus released his sharp grip on the woman's wrist and ran again, this time headed for the other side of the store, to the bakery. He'd seen bakers go in and out through a door to the kitchen area. And where there were kitchens, there would be a way out through a sneaky back door. Throwing the doors open as he ran, Karus skidded into the kitchens and looked about swiftly. Sure enough, there was a door leading to a massive dumpster that reeked of baking ingredients gone off. And sure enough, there was nobody there waiting for them.

The back door of the bakery led out to an empty alleyway. Karus followed his instinct and kept running, dodging through gates leading down through other alleys. He couldn't say he was used to running from strange men through alleys, but he knew the city like the back of his hand. He could picture it all in his head as clear as a map. A safe house, for now.. He couldn't go to work, couldn't go home.. He glanced about in slight desperation, but kept running, running, running. Then, he saw it - the painted roof of Tomoe's Kingdom of Hope, with the bright green back door and the gleaming red metal gate into the alleyway. It would be safe there, he knew. Throwing open the gate, which creaked just slightly, Karus raced up to the back door. To his relief, it was unlocked. Inching it open, Karus ducked his head inside and slipped in upon seeing nobody in the cramped back store. There were steps leading up to the next floor. He was just about to creep up them when he heard footsteps over the faint hubbub of people in the shop. His head snapped around and looked to the manager woman, but she was still. Before he could move, the door of the back room was flung open.

Panic.

Adrenaline.

And an underling of fear.

A deep frown etched into Tomoe's usually cheerily face. Impossible blue eyes shifted from human to human as he leached his power into the store, trying to locate the source of these negative emotions. Holding his fan aloof in front of his face out of shear habit, the pokemon in disguise reached out his 'feelers'. Whips of energy and psychic power creep along the edges of the room, stretching and thinning as they gently touched one human at a time that resided in his 'kingdom'.

As the 'wave' of energy touched one human and then other it would feed a direct line to the dark hair man, giving him a rush of emotions. With each touch his frown grew deeper, as the only emotions he received back were only positive ones. Not exactly bad, but it was not was the the Kirlia was looking for.

The panic was still 'there', but now it was moving. Moving...closer. Like, his back storage room.

"Hmmm." Closing his fan with a swift 'snap', the shopkeeper gently rose from his golden 'throne' that rested in the middle of the platform. Guiding the velvet robe to the side, Tomoe deceased from his chair and towards the back, were behind the lines of tall selves of toys and games. Behind the selves lie a door that was colored a bright happy green with a curly lettering of his shop's title.

Pausing in front of the door, Tomoe 'started' at the door trying to sense the confusion wave of emotions that seem to get closer.

Yes, yes it was here. He would hear the soft 'click' of the back door opening and closing as it was shut again.

I really need to lock that door. Tomoe could have smacked himself as the panic and fear stayed in his back room. Now that is was closer he would sense two people. Two different kind of people.

Putting up his guard, Tomoe flunk the door open, blocking the way between his store and travelers and the strangers escape. Snapping his feather fan open and one hand on the door, Tomoe growled at the shadowy figures, eyes glowing briefly as he ready to strike at the intruders. The figures turn, emotions of shock and more adrenaline pulsed though. From the light pouring in behind his back, Tomoe could see that the pair had blonde hair, one was a woman, the other, a man. A man with a familiar brown coat..

"K-chan?" The relived pokemon asked, dropping the arm that had his fan in 'attack' mode. Although he was happy that the intruders were not some punks off the streets, but the behavior was unusual form his more serious friend.

"It's not like you to be sneaking though my back door this early in the day. Don't tell me your picking up some bad habits?"

Tomoe's attentions shifted to the girl behind him. Oh wow, she had a scary face. "And what's with the girl? Did you make a new friend besides me, K-chan? Oh~ I'm jealous now, I don't want to share you~!"

Wait a moment. Since when did his work aholic-I don't need a date-don't have the time-can't hold a descent conversation-friend try to reach out to the opposite sex? Slowly, but surely, Tomoe connected the dots.

(Karus + Strange woman x Dark room = !!!)

"Oh. O-oh K-chan, you beast!" Flushed the dark hair pervert. Putting his hands on his reddening face, Tomoe closed his eyes as vivid images flashed and shifted though his creeper mind. "Oh! I never knew you had it in you K-chan!" He gushed, spinning on the spot in joy.

"Papa is so proud of you!" Tomoe cried, pumping his fan up and down at the lovely-dovey pair. "But where are your manners my dear boy! The least you could have done is take her to a nice hotel, unless you like the kiny-ness of the 'abounded store room' thing. But really K-chan, couldn't this wait till after I close shop? There are kids still in the building you know."

Despite proving himself as a perfectly respectable passer-by, he persisted in being extremely suspicious and even stated that he "should go". With that, she just squinted at him further. However, he was too busy furtively glancing away and side-eying something to the left. It was then she noticed that it was strangely quiet.

Everything happened at once. Something bright swept over the man before her; he barely dodged, she staggered back in shock. Mouth agape with unsaid thoughts, Sasha swung her head around to stare at a gun-wielding fellow before being dragged away sharply around a corner. Next she was running blindly and aided the get-away. A swarm of screaming thoughts clouded her judgement briefly, but the survival instinct was kind enough to kick in and quickly clear them up. Run became an emotion at that point, though the navigator she bolted just behind seemed to have no sense of direction. A lingering sense of bewilderment, however, meant she couldn't find the words or complex actions to help with the adrenaline-boosted escape.

After a series of quick turns came a sudden stop to duck into a store room. For a brief few moments, she was alone with the speedy thump of her heart, which was enough time to gather a few thoughts together and realise there were alternative exits to the overtly risky main one. The shadow of a man streaked past and in immediate effect, both she and the other refugee were running once again with a common goal of the Bakery. After reaching that, she allowed him to throw open the doors and waited for him to be abducted. When nothing happened, she caught the closing door and slipped out into the back.

Sasha paid little attention to her surroundings, mainly because she knew them rather well, so focused on the blonde man's next move. He was quickly off running again, which seemed a good idea. What made her hesitate was the thought of running in the opposite direction. But then what? It wouldn't work: nowhere to go now. And so, the running continued. And continued. And continued. It seemed an age until the leader flung open some peeling red gates and swung into the opening. Quite frankly, she was lost within the knot of dingy back-street alleys so where they were was a mystery. Despite the frustration of depending on a dangerous stranger, she followed him in and left no stone unturned by quietly closing the gate. After a quick glance back for safety, Sasha sighed slightly and slunk in through the yawning back door, not particularly hopeful for the imminent future.

It was dark. A few weak shafts of sunlight lounged over the cramped room, but a smothering haze of dust made its lighting effect negligible. Mainly, large crates and boxes lined the shelves, but the odd stuffed doll was propped up against cardboard walls, glassy-eyed and empty-smiled. Some particular denizens were dappled with battle scars from the assembly line: amputee plushies and other native rejects of the shop floor. Combined with the musty shadows that smudged every corner, it would be the place of nightmares for a child.

Before she could get another thought in about the place, a worrying sound caught her attention. Footsteps. As she froze completely into place to cautiously listen on, the other refugee whipped his head around to survey her for the first time in a while, searching for the source of the footfalls. She frowned slightly at that. It was almost as if he didn't know exactly who was coming around the corner: almost like he wasn't expecting this. Now wait a moment, wasn't that why she followed him? Because he had a plan? Well, how unfortunate. Silently, she snaked a hand over the handle of the door beside her, ready to fling it open and turn and bolt as soon as the threat presented itself as serious. Slamming the door right in his face seemed appropriate as well.

In a flash, the door was flung open and made Sasha recoil further into the shadows and away from the sudden light that irritated her eyes. As a man stepped out into the store room, she tightened her grip on the handle but hung back in uneasy anticipation for something to happen. Something did indeed happen: the mysterious figure not only recognised her temporary alliance, but named him as K-chan. With that, she relaxed slightly. All wasn't so bad.

As the weird little friend of K-chan continued talking, however, Sasha's general expression darkened. He was blathering on to "K-chan", utterly excited that he'd managed to get a date. To make this fabulous news even more groundbreaking, it was her who was the date. That truly was an extraordinary feat! Just how he managed to woo her whilst getting both of them mercilessly shot at was a mystery to her and would be a talking point for years. Incredible!

If the circumstances were different, she could have seen herself laughing extremely drily at the situation whilst walking out. Unfortunately, circumstances remained dire and she was forced to deal with the new and thoroughly unwelcome arrival. "You. Shut it." she snapped out harshly, narrowing her cold eyes further into a deathly glare. She examined the shop keeper more fully: he looked ridiculous. All she needed. An open scowl had worked its way into her features. She wore it openly and in the most seething fashion possible.

Whether he had shut up or not, Sasha did not care. Blocking out his general existence, she turned on K-chan. "What is this?" she breathed in a calm sort of menace and beckoned vaguely in the shopkeeper's direction. Hopefully he had some kind of use other than wearing extravagantly tacky velvet robes. "And what was that?" her next question she left open to interpretation, though the choices for what "that" meant were rather limited in context. "Honestly, I'm not used to strange men turning up and shooting up my store! So please forgive me if I sound just slightly ticked off."
