Cottonpaw's ears peeped through the juniper berry bush, swiveling about
like a rabbit's. Her minty-green eyes narrowed ever so slightly, and the
she-cat dropped into a low crouch. She could feel her paws tingling with
anticipation as she scoped into the apprentice's den. A bundle of mottled
fur that made out her fellow apprentice, Emberpaw, seemed to be
sleeping in on this particularly fine day. It was about time that her friend
woke up. About two tail-lengths away, I'd say. I can get there, no problem!
Cottonpaw bunched up her muscles and bursted through the bushes in a
great leap. She softly landed on top of Emberpaw, yowling,
"WAKE UP,
EMBERPAW, YOU LAZY BUM!"
Cottonpaw briskly darted out of the den,
giggling to no end. She knew that when Emberpaw collected herself, she
would be in deep trouble. The petite she-cat rushed for the warrior's den,
still snickering, and dove into cover behind a large rock just beside it.
Cottonpaw tried to hold in her giggles by covering her muzzle with her
forepaws, but her efforts were in vain as she couldn't help but let out
occasional, uneven puffs of laughter.

Stormstrike perked one ear up to the sudden burst of noise from the
apprentice's den. He paid no particular attention to the commotion,
sighing to himself,
"Apprentices really do have endless amounts of
energy, don't they? I wouldn't be too surprised if they scampered all
the way to the end of the territory and back without any complaints
but hunger."
The large tom stalked over to a small, sun-warmed rock,
and slid his dull claws on its rough surface. Stormstrike had not
noticed that his claws had grown so dull, until it was too late. Just
yesterday, Stormstrike had failed to catch a mouse when his claws
refused to sink into its spine, and the rodent had wriggled out of his
grip in the tom's confused state. Grunting at the memory, Stormstrike
increased his pace and effort into his middle claw. It wasn't long until
every claw was razor-sharp, and the warrior sheathed them in
satisfaction. I wonder if there will be any patrols heading out soon. I
would like to take Lionpaw out for a border patrol, then perhaps
hunting practice.

Duskpaw opened his jaw to protest at his mentor, but before any words came out,
the ginger tom had abruptly left. The young tom huffed in disappointment and
annoyance,
"Can't he see that I'm trying? Nothing seems to be perfect to him."
Taking second thought, Duskpaw's eyes brightened in an instant, and he lowered
to the ground (and checked that his tail was lowered), spying on a
butterfly fluttering in the air.
"If I can impress Redstrike, I bet I can become the
best warrior there is in this clan!"
he exclaimed, giving a great leap in the air to
gently cuff the insect with his paw.

Hello. My name is E c h o. I am a mid-teenage girl dwelling on the West coast, where the sun shines to no end, and girls wear shorts in the winter. I am trilingual; being fluent in English and Japanese, and in the midst of my third year of A.S.L.

I enjoy running, music, and shopping in what little free time I have. I absolutely have a passion for fashion. I also crack the lamest puns in the world, all thanks to my best guy friend.

That's just a tad bit about me. Kudos to you if you took the time to read it. Have a great day. - E c h o.

"Rosepaw!" he growled, looking around the forest. "Hurry up so we can return to camp already." His skinny tail waved with frustration and impatience as he surveyed the meadow. Of course, being Tigerstep, the medicine cat decided that their stock was getting way too low. There wasn't enough catmint - when was there ever? - and Tigerstep knew for certain that the clan cats would need catmint. Not only did they need to replenish their catmint stock - there was far too little juniper berries, lavender, and tansy! His ears flattened against his skull in irritation. At his feet laid several bundles of catmint and lavender, for he could not find any juniper berries. It was strange, indeed; Tigerstep was certain that he had spotted a good bush of juniper berries only several days ago. Where had it gone? He narrowed his eyes at nothing in particular, annoyed at his bad luck. Perhaps something had gotten to it before he could.

Sighing irritably under his breath, Tigerstep shook his head and lifted his chin to gaze at the opposite direction. The trees thickened there, and he was suddenly hit with a flow of memories. He was all too familiar with this part of the forest, and not only because that herbs tended to grow here. This place was also the place where he met her. This place remained a bittersweet location in Tigerstep's memory. This place was the bearer of memories he did not wish to forget, but also wanted to hide. This was where all his secrets were located. His ears swiveled. Where was she now? He remembered her face that one heart wrenching night - the night where he became a full medicine cat after his mentor, Thistleleaf, passed away in his sleep. After Thistleleaf's passing, Tigerstep had to become the full medicine cat. And, of course, he knew that medicine cats couldn't continue doing what he was doing. He remembered walking this very path, heart battling against his mind. Remembered the she-cat's pretty face as she welcomed him with a purr, like she always did. And, of course, how could he forget her face when he so coldly broke her heart?

The medicine cat snorted, attempting to brush off his silly memories. What had happened back then was a brief thing, so why did he dwell on it? From the start, he knew that what he shared with the she-cat could never last. This was only to be expected. This was all his fault. Growling softly, Tigerstep's intense amber gaze swept over the clearing again. "Rosepaw!" he snapped, tail lashing. "I would like to be back at camp before sunfall, if that's alright with you." 'Useless apprentice,' he complained to himself, taking to his paws and sniffing the little tufts of grass next to him. Mentoring was, perhaps, Tigersteps' least favorite thing to do. In fact, if he wasn't required to, he wouldn't have taken on an apprentice. Tigerstep was strictly meant to work alone; working with other cats only clouded his sense of judgement and irritated him. 'Well, at least Rosepaw isn't a mousebrain,' he reasoned grumpily to himself. True, true. If Tigerstep had gotten some cat like Blackpaw as an apprentice... Oh, only StarClan would know what he would do.

There it was! Right there!

Yes, Emberpaw could see it now. The mottled she-cat could make out the squirrel's ever so fluffy tail and rounded quarters, the rest of its body hidden by tall strands of grass. Emberpaw could feel excitement twitch in her paws. She had never caught a squirrel before, after all. The last time she had been out hunting with her mentor, Mousefur, she had just missed the stupid creature. Her pride, as a result, was a bit damaged. For as long as she had been an apprentice (exactly two moons), Emberpaw had been acknowledged as one of the better hunters. She brought back enough prey to challenge the older apprentices, and her techniques were almost flawless.

Almost. The wretched squirrel just had to prove her wrong.

So, that's why Emberpaw wasn't going to let this creature escape. 'Tail still,' she reminded herself. Her pink nose twitched and her whiskers laid erect against the wind. Yes, this was perfect! She was downwind; the squirrel would never be able to scent her now. 'Just a little more...' Emberpaw crept closer and closer to the squirrel, avoiding the patches of yellowed, crunchy leaves. The foolish squirrel remained oblivious to its inevitable death as it examined a particularly nice acorn.

'Now!'

"What -" Emberpaw gasped incoherently as a weight flung itself on her. Her yellow eyes widened in startled. What was happening? Her mind scrambled, unable to comprehend. 'Am I being attacked?' she panicked to herself. But a laugh registered in her ears, and her eyesight cleared just in time to see her friend's fluffy white tail trail out of the den's entrance. "Cottonpaw!" she cried out after her friend, forgetting the fact that other apprentices may still be sleeping. "I'm going to shred your tail!" she threatened Cottonpaw, scrambling to her paws. Her limbs ached from behind folded underneath her body weight for the whole night, but that didn't stop the mottled she-cat from bolting out of the den.

She exploded into the camp clearing, bits of moss and bedding hanging off of her long fur. 'Where is she?' she thought to herself, looking around camp with widened, alert yellow eyes. "You can't hide from me," Emberpaw threatened, still surveying the camp. Cats were already awake, and Emberpaw was slightly aware of the fact that several may be staring at her as if she had grown a third tail. Hopefully she hadn't roused any of them, but she seriously doubted that she had. Where was Cottonpaw? Ah! 'If I were Cottonpaw, I know where I would hide.' Ha, Cottonpaw was in trouble now!

As silently as she could manage, Emberpaw approached the warriors' den. Cottonpaw was certainly not gutsy enough to hide inside the den, but enough to hide near it. Ha, did Cottonpaw think that a warriors' den could scare her off of revenge? Ridiculous! Emberpaw's ears swiveled at the huffing and puffing of suppressed laughter, and she knew that she had her prey cornered. Not unlike how she would stalk prey, Emberpaw approached the rock and bunched up her muscles, springing over the medium sized boulder and onto her fluffy companion. "Got'cha!" she laughed victoriously.

Crookedtail
| Warrior | She-cat | 28 moons | Apprentice: Fernpaw | No crush | Location: Camp | tags; Fernpaw |

Crookedtail couldn't help but have a low purr rumbling in her throat as her apprentice thanked her for their training session. Their training session had gone well, although Fernpaw's distraction made it occasionally difficult to teach her things. It wasn't every cat that got to mentor one of the leader's kits, so Crookedtail didn't have much to complain about.

"As long as you listen to me," the gray warrior started, "you'll be the best hunter there ever was." Her words were soft and kind as they left her mouth. She gave a slightly amused mrrow when she heard Fernpaw's stomach growl. Fernpaw's offer came as a slight surprise, but it was definitely a welcome one. She had grown fond of her apprentice over the last 2 moons that she had been her mentor. With a quick glance over the camp, she watched the hunting patrol come back with some fresh-kill and a few cats sharing tongues. Eating would probably be a good idea.

"We're done training and it looks like the hunting patrol just came back, so you better run and get us the best squirrel in the pile," Crookedtail mewed with a slight bounce in her step, lightly cuffing Fernpaw over the ear. She could never reject an offer, even more so from such an adorable 'paw like Fernpaw. She would make an amazing warrior, Crookedtail was determined to see that through.

Bounce's face twisted in sorrow when Maggie did not answer. Shaking her head, she simply turned talk and walked away at a brisk pace, before she changed her mind. When she had walked a short ways, she looked behind her and could no longer see Maggie. Her pace slowed significantly. She was alone.

Heart pounding, Bounce's head lowered as she looked around the unfamiliar territory. She nearly stopped, but knew it would do no good. She nearly cried out, but thought the same of that. All she had to do was find the camp. It couldn't possibly take longer than the rest of the day, she figured. Perhaps she would even run into someone before hand. Hopefully someone friendly. She caught her breath and her chest tightened sharply. What if she ran into- she shook her head sharply. What were the chances? She thought. She expected there to be a great many more cats. Besides, she should not be afraid of running into the father of her kits. She laughed nervously to herself. There was a detail he did not know. How would she tell him? Did she really have to? She wondered if one could tell just by looking at her. She grunted in frustration and attempted to clear her head of any thoughts, deciding to deal with events as they came.

Not being able to think critically, he mind was set to bond together their relationship before it completely shattered into bits. "Bounce.. please, ill go with you." Her voice was filled with sorrow, and rush to build their bond the way it was before. "I am sorry, it's-I know I can be selfish at times, but trust me, I don't want to loose you.." Her face looked over at the area she had walked to, beginning to walk over near her, leaning up against her in depression. "Let me apologize for being a butt, honest." She whimpered. "But I am not joining this clan with you, I am solely about standing up for myself."

She jumped and spun when she heard steps behind her. Her breathing slowed, however, when she realized it was only Maggie. She sighed a breath of relief and couldn't help a smile from reaching her face. Had she decided to go with her after all? Her words only made her more happy.

Then, suddenly, it ended. Her smile fell instantly. She paused before simply nodding in understanding. "Alright," she said calmly, then gestured forward with her head. "Let's go then," she said with a sigh, though she did her best to keep up the illusion of strength. "We have to find the camp."

...V E N O M P O O L......................tagged- otterfrost........location- camp........feeling- cheerful

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

It had been a wonderful dream. A rather comical one too (and embarrassing) but still it had proven to be wonderful. You see, Venompool liked dreaming. She liked being awake more, but she absolutely loved to dream. It was a bit heart wrenching to be told that you were immature and naive, as Venompool had been told many times but the she-cat didn't mind. Contrary to her name, the she-cat was a bubbly cat and rather upbeat as well. Her cheerfulness wasn't hiding any insecurities she had, though, she did have one or two. Venompool's happiness was genuine. Unfortunately, most other cats didn't see the charm in this.

Her head poked out of the warrior's den, eyes bright and lively even though it was still early in the morning. Giving a rapid shake of her pelt to dislodge any debris that might have clung to her pelt, the she-cat padded out of the den, tail swishing in the air. Her mind was already alive and busy with questions that didn't have answers quite yet. Venompool was like an apprentice. In fact, many a warrior had genuinely mistaken her for one. She herself didn't mind, after all, that was just her nature. The lively she-cat pranced over to the fresh kill pile, eyes alight with curiosity. Otterfrost. Venompool didn't know much about him, but that did nothing to deter her from trying to strike up a conversation. The she-cat couldn't help but view everyone as her friend-even if that wasn't the case.

"Good morning, Otterfrost!" Venompool's eyes wandered to the fresh kill pile. Her mind stuttered as the she-cat examined the prey. It wasn't because she was hungry of course, but rather curious to as what was in it this morning. Venompool's whiskers twitched as she tried to quell the urge to lift the dead animals to see if there was anything else of interest in there. "It's lovely weather, isn't it?" The she-cat meowed rather excitedly. Weather really wasn't something cats should get excited over, but Venompool did. Everything was amazing to her.

Blue eyes scanned the camp clearing, but Blackpaw was nowhere to be seen. Where is my apprentice? I'd like to get some training done today, Nightfrost thought, licking her chest fur a lick. She let out a bored yawn, and then enjoyed a luxurious stretch as she started towards the fresh-kill pile. It was nicely stocked, and the squirrel Redstrike contributed sat nicely on the top. It was a small squirrel, but Nightfrost didn't want to eat too much before she worked with Blackpaw. That squirrel would be perfect. Upon reaching the fresh-kill pile, she just picked up the end of Redstrike and Fawndapple's conversation. Although Fawndapple was older than Nightfrost, the black she-cat believed that the cream colored senior warrior was naive if she thought apprentices didn't need to be critiqued customarily. She couldn't help but get her two sense in. "An apprentice with real potential won't let a mentor doing their job get in the way of success."

Rosepaw twitched her whiskers mischievously. She was crouched low, her black fur concealed for the most part by the long grass she had wandered off in. Her prey of choice, a stray monarch butterfly, was oblivious to the danger. "The mighty hunter draws nearer to her prey, ready to pounce..." Rosepaw commentated the hunt, her tail tip twitching. The butterfly's wings slowly folded open, and then closed again. It's feelers caressed the golden flower it was perched upon. Pretty blue berries around the butterflies' flower added a certain beauty to the entire scene. "Any minute, and this guy will be toast…" Rosepaw dashed forward, stopping just before she ran into the butterfly's flowers. It took off into the air, twirling in circles around the black she-cat as if it were lost. Rosepaw batted gently at the butterfly, not actually wanting to harm the little fellow. After giving chase for a few fox lengths, Rosepaw ceased and perked her ears at the sound of her name. Crap. She had forgotten she came here with her mentor to collect herbs. Rosepaw poked her head slowly over the tall grass, spotting the tom looking in her direction. She rose to her paws, and bounded over to her mentor. "Sorry, Tigerstep! I saw a butterfly, it was so pretty…" She trailed off, realizing her excuse was lame. Maybe if she had found some juniper berries her mentor wouldn't have a reason to be so critical. Rosepaw felt a wave of excitement wash over her. She had found some juniper berries where the butterfly had been resting! "Tigerstep, I think I found a few juniper berries, actually. Over there!" She gestured with her tail where she had just been, hoping for her mentor's approval.

The camp was bustling with energy and cats, even with half of the clan still out on patrol. Oddpaw felt like he should be on patrol, but he didn't want to patrol borders or hunt without his mentor's consent. Hunting actually sounded very nice to the white tom at that moment, especially since he hadn't gotten the chance to sink his claws into flesh yesterday. He had done stealth training with his mentor, followed by border patrols. How boring. Being the only cats around was great sometimes, but Oddpaw just wished there was a little more excitement on occasion. Some rogues to defend the clan from, or maybe even a predator. To some he might sound crazy, but Oddpaw didn't see the point in patrolling borders with nobody to cross them. He didn't voice his thoughts outright, but it crossed his mind often. A loud commotion jolted Oddpaw from his thoughts, and he lifted his head to two of his den mates yowling like foxes. Cottonpaw and Emberpaw. Why did that not surprise him? He watched with interest as Emperpaw gave chase to Cottonpaw, heading for the warrior's den. He remained where he was, but he was curious as to what the two of them were carrying on about this time.
The future lies before you;
like a field of fallen snow.
Be careful how you tread it;
for every step will show.

They'll judge you by your past;
Which makes it do or die.
Unless of course my darling;
You spread your wings and flii.

BLACKPAW
──────────────────────────
xxTHE IDEALISTxx
──────────────────────────
age: eleven moons
gender: female
rank: apprentice
tagged: nightfrost, redstrike, fawndapple
[emberpaw and cottonpaw mentioned]

──────────────────────────
Blackpaw, having experienced sitting up for half the night on watch, had retired to her bed after dawn had broken, slipping into the apprentices' den just as most of her denmates were getting up. She'd given them all smiles, though they weren't as bright as she would have liked, and she'd had to push Duskpaw away from her nest with her head (he'd spilled over from his own and she'd quite like her nest to herself, thank you very much) but when she'd finally settled down the den had been just about empty.

Now, however, Blackpaw found herself rudely awakened by two of the younger apprentices. Her head shot up from where it had rested on her white front paws and she glared at the two younger females before realizing what they were doing. "Oi!" She shouted at them in good nature. "Some cats were up half the night!" But her fur itched to join in, to get up and engage in play, no matter what the warriors would think of her. What better way was there to practice her skills than playing? But Nightfrost would be looking for her, so Blackpaw sat herself upright, stifled a yawn, and got to work grooming her long fur.

When that was done and her pelt was sleek, the apprentice headed out of the den and scanned the camp. It looked like most of the patrols had returned, which meant there was a possibility that Nightfrost would take her out training, if she could just find her...... There! She was over with two of the senior warriors, Redstrike and Fawndapple. Redstrike didn't approve of her, she was sure, but who cared? She was still going to be a great warrior! Trotting over, the black and white apprentice waved her tail in greeting and caught the end of the conversation the older cats were having. "I do hope I don't get in the way of you, Nightfrost." She purred, butting her head against her mentor's shoulder.

"Good-morning, Venompool!" He whisked a smile, gazing over at the tabby before hearing his voice inquire him.

"Indeed, the weather couldn't be any better than today!" He purred, looking up at the sun that had been giving him such a lovely wake-up heat. Slowly, he shuffled his gaze over towards the fresh-kill pile, immediately his stomach started to obnoxiously growl at the absence of food. "Sorry! I didn't eat today, and I kinda woke up earlier than everybody else." He smiled meekly, feeling embarrassed by his hungriness.

However, she felt Bounce joining the clan was a good decision. Her ego had been telling her otherwise, where she wouldn't be able to cope with not having a companion with her on her survival. In a submissive voice, Maggie looked over at Bounce. "Hey look listen-The only reason I don't feel comfortable joining this clan, is because of the fact I have to change my name..." She finished her sentence, looking meekly at Bounce.

"Our mother and father gave me my own, unique name, I wouldn't want to change it.. I guess it make's me feel more like I have a connection with my parents more than I realized.." Her voice trailed off, not wanting to explain to much she turned to Bounce, who she was expecting to call her an annoying, greedy she-cat who couldn't always start complaining.
