mermaids
the mermaids of the north atlantic have been
around for more than five hundred years. the pod has
been hidden for all those years, choosing not to show
themselves to the humans. It was from the humans
that the mermaids heard that they were a supposed
"myth." they let the humans believe that as they
watched the greed for more grow. everyday
there would be a ship out in the icy cold waters,
searching for new species. it was during these
times that the mermaids had to resort to the even
chillier waters of the deep, within the far reaches
of the humans devices. it was about a half a year ago
that the first sightings of some stupid mermaid youths
that caused the attention to turn to the mythological
creature. now the mermaids have to avoid the surface
at all costs, having to do hunting at night if they ever
wanted to eat. there are a few youngsters of the group
who disapprove though and wish to surface, face the
humans and scare them off. the elders are not so keen,
claiming the humans to be dangerous. they could possibly
be right.

scientists
the scientists of the human world are
typically narrow-minded on the topic of
mythological creatures. they simply don't believe
the things exist, even mermaids. that is up until
a half a year ago when the stomach of a shark was
cut open. inside was a fish tail that was
unidentifiable and at first they believed it to be
one of the thousands of uncovered species. they
were right, in a sense. after taking a dna sample
and running it several times through gel
electrophoresis with multiple other fish dna,
nothing had matched. they resorted to testing
it with different animals on earth and were a bit
surprised to see half of the bands from the lab
matched up with that of simple human dna. at
first the scientists were baffled as there couldn't
possibly be a half-fish half-human creature or could
there? after checking through countless books and
going through multiple tests, the only conclusion they
could come to was that of the mythological mermaid.
now several scientists from around the world are
traveling to the north atlantic in search of answers.
