the facts:
It's a game played by graduating seniors over the summer, called Nyx after its founder, William Nyx.
Judges are chosen by the ones from last year.
Everyone in Derwood High pays a dollar for every day that school is in session.
People have gotten arrested and died.
But more importantly, the pot this year is 74 grand.

the reality:
Nyx has come to be thought of as a shorthand for Nyctophobia. Why? Because the game inevitably lapses into utter chaos every year— or darkness, as you might call it.
There is cheating, sabotage, alliances, bribery, and betrayal.
The reason it's so popular in spite of all that? It's the only way you will ever escape the small, dying town of Derwood.

The secret to winning?
Don't fear the dark.
Embrace it.

This is a semi-lit/lit roleplay. If you're here, you should know the drill. You will be allowed one character when I open this for reservations. Once I feel that everyone has gotten what they want, I will allow a second character if they have not yet all been taken. I expect a minimum of two solid paragraphs/10+ lines for each but won't pressure you to write more; this is going to be relatively relaxed in terms of literacy.
Activity is crucial for this roleplay to succeed, so I need at least three posts a week. If I notice that you have not been posting here, yet are active in other areas of the site, or if you have not posted on CS in a while [unless you notify me about this in advance] I will PM you. If you tell me you have quit or if you do not respond within a few days, I will take that as permission to find a way to kill off/do whatever I see fit to your character(s) as part of the game. Don't join if this bothers you.

These two have been rivals for as long as anybody can remember: since elementary school they’ve been competing in academics, clubs, sports, and as they got older, in making valedictorian [he won that round] and getting into prestigious colleges [she got the last laugh, or so she thinks]. But now, there is one more battle to be had between them, the ultimate trial: Nyctophobia. Both need the money for their tuition, but who will get it, and at what cost?

This pair have been friends for at least as long as the high achievers have been enemies, though there are rumors that they’re more than that. And they’d make a cute couple: he entered the competition so he could give the money to her, yet little did he know that she did the exact same. It’s too late to back out now, so they’ve formed an alliance: if one wins, they’ll split the prize. But secretly, they both want it for themselves…

No one expects the rebels to amount to anything big outside of high school, and neither do they; they’re here for fun, to stir up trouble and watch some drama go down as relationships break and form. Winning would be great for bragging rights and there’s a ton of stuff that they could blow all that money on, but they don’t expect to walk away with the jackpot; they want to create memories.

He’s a painter and she’s an actress; he locks himself away in his studio and she flaunts her talent at every chance she can get, riding on a wave of popularity that she can only hope will last outside of Derwood. Both are dirt poor and both have big goals, and both need Nyctophobia to get themselves out of the small town and into the big city. The stakes are high; they’ve put their dreams on the line, but only time will tell if their gamble pays off.

They weren’t exactly well-known in school, but their mutual desperation for the money will make them some of the most dangerous players in the game. Their shared motive? To save a life. Both have someone ill at home who is in great need of proper treatment, and the only way they’ll be able to afford the hospital bills is if they win. But everyone has a reason to play, and there is no sympathy for contestants.

Unlike most of the other players, these two aren’t in it for the money, but that won’t stop them from giving Nyctophobia their all, much to the resentment of the others. Coming from the two most wealthy and influential families in Derwood, they’re participating solely for the glory of victory. They don’t even need the cash, though they’ll certainly keep it if they win… after all, you can never really have too much money, can you?

A doctor, a policewoman, the judges of the game, and several contestants whom I will use as I see fit. There WILL be injuries and arrests, and some of the poor people you see listed here WILL be killed, just so you know.
It’s a risky, chaotic struggle for 74 grand; would you expect anything less? Money has a crazy effect on people, and life in Derwood has pushed several to their breaking point.

extremely blunt and sassy coen tends to look down on people; they're ants to him and he could easily squish them. failure is not an option in his eyes. he will betray the one he loves the most, backstab anyone that proves to be a threat, and ruin everything for his opponents. ah, but that's how he acts inside the fun activities. when someone gets coen alone...wait? my bad, no...there's no changing this guy. he's smug and has been told to wipe the smug smirk off his face. yeah...the brunet with one blue eye and the other brown eye is egocentric. but...when he wants something he has been known to cozy up to a person. on another note, the eighteen year old is a heterosexual but his sexuality does not stop him from getting what he deserves. meet miss. electra diamond, the girl that truly remained in the shadows her whole high school experience. living a relatively poor existence, electra was never prided on the finer things in life. her mother ran off at a young age, leaving the small girl to be raised by her father. her father was just a trapper, trapping and hunting animals for a small living. electra grew up in the vast mountains, attending school and learning from her father. when her father developed a severe heart condition, her world was crippled. her father was in need of a sixty eight grand surgery, and they didn't have the money. the only solution? join the nyx games in hopes of winning that seventy four thousand dollar prize, not like there's much hope. electra diamond is a small height of five two, weighing in at ninety five pounds. having long beachy brown hair and piercing blue eyes, she is easy on the eyes. electra has a bold personality that can often come off as a tad sarcastic and edgy. electra isn't in the business of making friends in this twisted challenge, she just needs to survive. if she wins, her father survives and failure means losing the last thing that she has on this earth. believe me when i say that miss. electra diamond is not going down without a fight, because twenty seconds of courage is all it takes.

His name is Ajax Baiden. He could be
called "Jack" by his close friends. He is quite
obviously a sir. Ajax is 17 years old and born
on the 12th of December. He is the Wildcard.
Ajax is of taller than the average height. He has
black hair and emerald green eyes. He likes
to wear bootcut jeans that vary with their
blue shades. He often wears black converse with
coloful laces. He has a different lace for each shoe.
His left shoe has black and red checkered laces
and his right shoe has zebra striped laces.
For shirts, he'll wear long-sleeved work shirts
that he rolls up to his elbow. Over the shirt
he'll wear a light black jacket with pockets in
various places. If it's colder, he'll put on a
slightly heavier jacket. Ajax was born in
Cardiff, England, and that's where he grew up.
His parents moved to America when he was 14.
Ever since then he's been wanting to go back to
England. That's his main motive for the game -
he wants to get money so he can go to a college
in England. His parents are refusing to support his
wish to go back to his hometown, which he wants

more than anything else. All Ajax wants
is to go back to his old life in England, but his
parents refuse to help him. So he intends to
prove to them that he's serious about the move.
He really hopes that he can get accepted into
a college and given a good scholarship, but
he wants the money to go toward paying off
the rest of college. He's been saving up money
from his birthdays and Christmases for the
big trip, so not only will he have that to pay for
the plane and somewhere to stay, he'll have
more money to help out. This has been Ajax's
dream ever since moving to America. He
hates it there. They speak weird and they
can be very mean. They don't have Boxing
Day or Christmas hats, either, which confuse
Ajax too much. How could you have Christmas
without Boxing Day and Christmas Hats? And
why did they call their biscuits "cookies?"
Ajax doesn't like any of the changes he's had
to get used to, so he really wants to win this
game if only to go back to his home country, where
he feels he belongs best.

Ajax is a very smart and sarcastic boy.
He enjoys testing the limits of his intelligence
and the intelligence of others. Not many
people really like him because of this. His
sarcasm can offend people, too. Almost
everything that comes out of his mouth is
sarcastic. It's rare to find a day when Ajax
isn't in the mood to be saracstic.
Ajax is one of the odd people who
doesn't like the spotlight. If the subject
of the conversation is himself, he'll work
very hard to change that. Ajax is also
quite witty. He could come up with a
new insult or joke really quickly based on
the circumstances and surroundings he's
given. Ajax is a pretty straight-forward
boy. He doesn't like beating around the
bush, and he definitely hates it when others
leave him in suspense. He doesn't have
that much patience. However, Ajax
can be sacrificial and loyal to his friends.
He would be willing to give something up
to keep a friend of his. That's just the type
of person he is. This means that if you're
someone that Ajax respects, you're in a
lucky position. He'll defend you in a lot
of situations and would be willing to give
up something important to him for you.
Despite all these good traits, Ajax

some bad traits as well. He's very, very,
stubborn. He may refuse to talk to someone
just because they said he was wrong. Even
if they apologize over and over, he'll refuse
them something. That's just part of his
charm as a person. He's also very
supercilious. He thinks quite highly of
himself, even if others call him a "freak"
or a "geek." He doesn't quite care, and normally
turns the tables on them and makes them look
stupid. People have learned not to bully Ajax
through trial and error. He's too proud of
himself to take it. That's another motive for
wanting to win this game - he needs to prove
that he is all that and a bag of potato
chips, to both himself and everyone around
him. Ajax can be pretty rude sometimes as
well. He says things without thinking and
they mostly come out as offensive, especially
where his sarcasm is concerned. It's not a rare
occurence for Ajax to get into an argument
with someone over whether he was justified
in his rude comment or not. Ajax also tends
to make things more complicated than they
actually are. If something's not already
complicated and hard to understand, he'll make
it that way. He upsets his teachers a lot of the time
when he does this, and it makes his schoolwork
a bit harder than one would think it should.
