This is the kingdom of Asteria.

Left in shambles by the murder of the beloved King Mauntell, it’s all the
newly widowed Queen Rosetta and her stepdaughter, Crown Princess Vivian Gael,
can do to keep it from ripping apart at the seams. With the help of
Prince Ferragance, however, it appears that the rallying point
for the rebels who committed this atrocious act — Killian, the notorious
captain of the pirate ship The Sirens’ Wrath — has finally been captured.

Yet an interrogation by the curious princess yields more questions than
answers, and all of a sudden it’s no longer clear who can and can’t be
trusted. Who wanted the king gone? Was it the pirate with a
less-than-honorable reputation? The maid who can kill a man with a hairpin?
The thief whose grudge against the aristocracy might have gotten a little
carried away? The ambassador of a rival kingdom? Did the assassin act
of his own accord? Why was the prince missing from his chamber that
night, anyway? What if this is all a ruse constructed by the crown princess
to cast the blame from herself?

you. Short forms with an image and the basics of identity, appearance, and an
elaboration on personality will be fine. I've seen this many times in role-play rules,
as I'm sure you have, but please do not make your character perfect or invincible.
Please feel free to develop the character in any way you wish, but please don't stray
too far from what has been provided about the character. I will let you know
if you have changed something about the character that I feel is important.

I like pretty posts. Some BB coding would be appreciated, but it doesn't have to sparkle.
Also, please keep OOC to the discussion thread only. Discussion thread link is in the

that you live a life outside of CS and that you have many other role-plays
vying for attention, but still. I get it if you're being held up by another
character's absence, but please find a way to be active. I want you to post
at least every three days. If not, I will PM you. If you continue to fail to post,
your character will be deleted and the spot reopened.

I would be most grateful if you could avoid taking your characters too far
into a romantic scene. Things like that are for awesomesauce, not
chickensmoothie. Either fade to black immediately or skip it entirely. I
won't accept swearing at all -- yes, that includes the vowels being starred --,
and if you do, I will ask you to remove it. If you fail to do so, I will have to
take the situation to a mod. Keep the violence toned down. I know this
role-play is based around a death, but keep this from being gory. This is not
me being harsh, this is me ensuring the safety of the young audience around us.

The Princess has spent most of her life learning the ways of a queen.
Taking an active role in her education, she knows everything from
hosting a ball to battle strategies. For the past few years she has occupied
herself with waiting tirelessly to be married off against her will. Now, still
mourning her father, the Princess must team with her ridiculous younger
brother to run the kingdom in the place of their severely depressed and
grieving step-mother. Meanwhile, she has sworn on her life to find her
father’s murderer and see him to swift justice. There are too many
suspects, however. Some are her family, some friends such as the Maid
and Guard, others are enemies, and some even suspect her. She knows it
will break her heart if her suspicions against her dear ones are correct or
to see them accuse her. She begins to wonder if she truly wants to know
who killed her father.

The Ambassador, the princess of the rival kingdom of Aeralind, is the cousin
of the Prince and Princess through the King's sister. She is simply a
person caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. To passing eyes,
she seems the prime suspect for the King's murder. Unfortunate for her,
the accusation isn't far from the truth. Her intentions in coming to Asteria
were to propose a marriage between her brother, the crown prince, and
the Princess, while gaining favor with the Prince to learn the kingdom's
secrets from him. Skilled as a princess should be, the Ambassador
must find a way to convince those pointing fingers that she did
not kill the King while avoiding the truth about her stay in Asteria.
The question is not whether or not the truth will come to the surface,
but whether or not she truly did kill the King.

The Maid’s parents passed when she was nine, both hung for thievery
to keep their beloved child alive. The King only saw it as theft. She was
taken in by her aunt, serving as a maid in the castle. Not long after,
her aunt took ill and nothing could be done to save her. The King, feeling
pity for the orphan, decided that she would best serve the Princess as
a personal servant and undercover bodyguard. She knows knives almost
as well as the Assassin. The two became close friends, adding the Guard to
their duo soon after his commands to guard the Princess. She is treated
well by the royal family because of this closeness. Despite it all, the Maid
never forgave the King’s murder of her family. She tried to convince the
King to somehow give the peasants of the kingdom an easier life. Now
she finds that taking too strong of actions has proved worse than she
could ever imagine: the Princess thinks she may have killed the King.

The Thief is a tricky one to be sure. Her father died long before her
birth, and her mother died from an incurable illness when she was
five. She was taken to the orphanage when she was found stealing
bread from the bakery. Right away, she befriended the Assassin.
They ran away together at twelve and learned their trades of fighting and
thieving, respectfully. Though they remain close, the Thief took off
last year to join the Pirate, with whom she has been finding adventure
beyond the kingdom and doing her best work, moving from her previous
petty stealing-for-survival and to a whole new level. Through him she has
found the more exciting life she always dreamed of. Her reputation
has grown just short of that of the Assassin and the Pirate, the people
giving her the title of Queen of Thieves. There is no place she cannot
break into, nor no jewel she cannot steal. What, then, would keep her
from killing the King?

The Prince, the future king of Asteria, is ridiculous to say the very least.
Though he has been groomed to be king, he is a year younger than his
sister the Princess, the fact of which virtually allowed him to be been left
alone to do whatever his heart pleases. Never one to conform to
expectations, the recent death of his father has only served to drive
him further from the mold of the perfect prince, and the occasional
escapades he used to make have become nightly excursions to disreputable
taverns and shady neighborhoods. When not busy defiling the reputation
of the royal family, he can be found wandering the castle halls with
all the tranquility of a storm cloud or enjoying the attentions of
pretty women. While some argue that, though rowdy, the amusement-
seeking Prince couldn't murder his father, some believe that the young
Prince has decided it is his own turn to rule. Which side is correct?

He is one of the prime suspects of the King’s assassination, but he easily
escapes the manhunt the royal family has after him. The only thing known
about the Assassin of Asteria is his reputation. Left at the orphanage soon
after birth, the assassin’s first memories are of the Thief and their close
bond. At thirteen, they ran away from the horrible orphanage and found
their skills; he the blades and her the thievery. They remain close, though
she has taken to the seas with the self-absorbed Pirate, a fact he is not
fond of. She is the only one who could ever connect him to his murderous
alter-ego, because by day the Assassin is just a normal person walking
among the people of the kingdom. While his employer has ordered him
to disappear, the assassin has found that, as long as no one knows who
he is, things around the castle are getting interesting. Perhaps he’ll
stay for a while.

The Pirate ran away from the care of his aunt and uncle when he was
ten, headed to the seas in a determined search of adventure. It's no
wonder, then, that twelve years later he would be the captain of the
notorious Siren's Wrath. His plunder and hatred of the upper classes
makes him the perfect Robin Hood figure of Asteria. His teaming with
the Thief has made his career even better. However, his unfortunate
visit to the mainland during the King's murder has many fingers pointing
towards him as the one who gave the kill order. When the King's guard
finds him preparing to leave the kingdom at dawn, the fact is added to
his reputation as seasoning for his sentence. The questions now rise.
Will the Thief break him out before he's hung? Can the Pirate convince
the beautiful Princess that he is innocent? Would he be lying?

The Guard’s life began with his mother dying in childbirth. His father
sold him into the service of the King when he was thirteen, believing
that the boy would have a better life than that of a poor farmer. His
father was right. For only two years the Guard was in the military
service of the King, and that came to an end when the King saw his
immense talent with a sword, yet his innocent heart. It was decided
that the Guard’s use would best be served in guarding the Princess.
The Guard continued growing up in the castle alongside the Maid
and the Princess, where he and the former were trained to be both
companions and protectors of the latter. The Guard is one of the
most loyal to the King and royal family. No one believes that he would
have killed the King. But how did the assailant gain access to the King’s
chambers that night, without the Guard’s notice? Time will tell.

some might say that the queen of thieves, aoife, is a cold-hearted girl with
a grudge against royalty, but that is only a stranger's perspective. though
it's usually not connected with the kingdom's best thief, aoife has a very
strict moral code: she never steals from the poor, only from those who
have more than enough, nor will she kill anyone unless it is in self-defense
or to protect an innocent person. despite that fact, her years spent with
the pirate and assassin have given her a wonderful edge in any battle.
it was sworn to her own heart that she would protect the poor, since she
herself knows very well what the situation is like. she finds it difficult to
love and be loved after seeing so much grief in her life, but it's something
that aoife is beginning to build a bridge over, no matter how much her heart
is telling her to tread lightly. despite some self-loathing, aoife is someone
who put herself into a dangerous life to better serve the poor of asteria.
