“When a monster stops behaving like a monster, does it stop being a monster?”

To be born with a Grace is to be born with a curse. A Graceling is a rare child born with an exceptional skill, whether it be swimming, hunting, singing, storytelling, fighting, or even killing. They were also born with eyes of two different colors. One would think that people with such talents would be held in high respect. But instead, those with a Grace are hated, different, and feared. No one likes having anything to do with a Graceling, as though their Grace could be caught like a disease. The ones with useful skills such as cooking, fighting, archery, sword skills, and mind reading are taken by the king for his own use. The others with useless skills are left alone.

The original seven kingdoms had merged into two. But the dispute never quieted down. Misgivings, suspicion, and hate still swirled between the two kingdoms of Lontill and Sinder. Separated by a treacherous mountain range helped prevent constant fighting, but the rulers still found a way to irk one another.

After the disappearance of Sinder's Princess Vera, they automatically suspected kidnapping on Lontill's part. The King, outraged, gathered a small team of Gracelings to do his dirty work. He ordered the six to travel over the mountains to Lontill and find the princess. And severely injure her kidnappers in the process. The six Gracelings were doubtful of the kidnapping. There was no evidence, or any sign of kidnapping. No one had seen a Lontill in the court for months. But the Gracelings couldn't disobey their king. And with a sigh, they mounted their horses and went in search of their future queen.

basically, this takes place in a fantasy world. You could compare it to the middle ages, where they had castles and knights and stuff like that. No, the Gracelings aren't knights who wear armor. Yes, this is based off of the series. So six Gracelings from the Kingdom of Sinder are going to Lontill to find the princess. The princess is young, around eight years of age. To get to Lontill, they first have to pass through the mountains. It's wintertime, and that makes the mountains ever more dangerous. Remember they only have horses, what they can carry on their backs, weapons, and their Grace. After they get through the mountains, they'll have to search for the princess while being as discrete as possible. Which is hard because they're obviously a group of Gracelings from Sinder (suspicious much?). In the process they might have to kill some people and crap like that. They don't end up finding the princess because like they thought, the king of Lontill didn't kidnap her. If the RP gets this far, I'll see how the rest goes c:

Gʀᴀᴄᴇʟɪɴɢ → rules

Postby boat » Fri Feb 14, 2014 12:30 pm

I'll try to keep this short because no one likes reading rules. First, remember to follow all of the site's rules. That includes having only one picture per form and no linking to outfits in posts. This roleplay is semi-lit, which means I expect at least two paragraphs of at least eight sentences each, preferably more (with good grammar and spelling of course). If you have word block, then one paragraph with ten sentences. I can kick you out if you don't follow that. It really pisses me off when people join RPs they know that they can't handle. I'm not a biggie on forms though, anything works with me. Just remember to include the basics, like name, age, gender, personality, and their Grace. If you think your form doesn't look literate enough, feel free to send me a writing example. When roleplaying, try to include everyone. No power-playing because that kinda ruins everything, and try to keep it as real as possible (no spaceships, giant rainbow pandas, or stuff like that). Oh, and only one character per person unless you get permission from me beforehand. I think that should be all c:

    The Mindreader
He is Graced with mind-reading. He can't just read any thought he wants though. He can only read minds when they're thinking of something with a negative attitude. He can know what people are thinking when they're pissed off, upset, or plotting something 'evil'. People avoid him more than other Gracelings, since they are uncomfortable with their thoughts being heard by someone else.
    ICEBOUND

    The Lie Detector
She is Graced with the ability to tell lies from truth. She isn't exactly a lie detector, though she may seem like it. She picks up on the smallest expressions (micro expressions), and unless the other person is a trained liar, she can automatically tell when people are lying. With a few questions, she can get almost any information she had been after.
    ρσттѕ.

    The Fighter
He is Graced with exceptional fighting skills. He is quicker and stronger than most others. He knows where to hit a man to disable him, or even kill. He can beat almost anyone in a fight. During a fight, he can always come up with new strategies in split seconds. When it comes to weapons, he isn't Graced. But he learns much faster than an average person. With just a few day's practice, he can become as good as a person trained for years.
    Liddi

    The Hunter
She is Graced with hunting. This applies to both animals and humans. She's as quiet as a mouse on her feet; even on crunchy autumn leaves nothing would hear her. She can sneak up on a rabbit or a bird unseen and unheard. She isn't stronger or faster, but she is sneaky and handy with any weapon that has to do with aim. Because of her silence, she often acts as the spy. She can sneak up on people and listen in on their conversations and slip away without anyone noticing her presence.
    WolfLinkEpona

    The Fortune teller
He is Graced with seeing the future. He can't see anything far into the future. Usually he can only see seconds up to a few minutes in the future. Although it may sound useless, it comes in handy for fights. He always knows what his opponents is going to do next. He can also tell what people's reactions to news would be, although he always isn't right about that. His power is still growing, and there are times when he can predict the weather and an oncoming storm.
    ᴄᴏʀɪᴀɴᴅᴇʀ.

    The Runner
She is Graced with running. She can run faster than a horse and longer than any normal person. She can run for hours without becoming the least bit tired or thirsty. She can also run on any terrain but water, whether it be a forest overgrown with roots or a rocky mountain side. She can hold in a fight as well. Her legs are strong as they are fast, and her kicks vicious. Before the mission, she was always the king's messenger.

AND IF YOU WOULD CALL ME YOUR SWEETHEART,

name · milo elliot moir.
age · eighteen.
grace · foresight.
personality · patient, mysterious,
mature, composed and quiet.
appearance · chocolate brown hair.
silver eye, crystalline blue eye.
5'11". 142lbs. thin. lean.
quirks · brutally honest.
has bad vision, acute hearing.
refuses to kill unless necessary.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

xxx
Milo's foresight does not allow him to see very far
into the future;;only mere seconds (or minutes, if
lucky). He is an absolute advantage in fights, for
he can predict the future movements of his
opponents. Those that know him are shocked to
see him fight, for he is typically a calm, reserved,
intelligent, quiet guy who insists he will not kill
without provocation. Opponents typically assume
that his silence means he is weak, but he proves
everyone wrong with his vicious, relentless attacks.
Additionally, he has a knack for figuring out how
other people will react to things... but he can be
wrong. He is always insisting that his ability isn't
that reliable, seeing as people change every second,
and it can cause him a lot of confusion when he is
wrong. He works on his ability daily, trying to
improve himself. Occasionally, he can sense a
future storm strange weather. His stoic,
mature composure is the biggest reason people
do not understand him. He is the silent listener,
the observer. It is difficult to get him to speak,
but when he does, he is painfully, brutally honest.

xxx
Milo has an adult appearance. He stands at 5'11",
not particularly giant but still considerably tall.
Instead of hard, strong muscle he just has a
lean smattering here and there, in the
necessary places. It often leads his opponents to
judge him for his size;;but his strength lies in
speed and in his Grace. He has angled, feline
features and appears very regal due to his good
posture and gentle facial expressions. His eyes
are even eerier than most Graceling eyes.
Glimmering silver on the left and crystalline, pale
blue on the right, he connects the colors to his own
personality;;silver for clarity, much like glass, for
he can see much of a person just by observing them;;
blue for serenity, truth and sincerity, because he
believes not in lying and that everything can be
settled peacefully in the end. Milo's skin is very pale
and contrasts greatly with his dark, chocolate-colored
hair. He keeps it short on the sides and longer on
the top, mussing it up in a deliberately-messy way.
He has a natural flush to his cheeks that is greatly
exaggerated when he is cold.

___EVERETTE
_____--GREY

_____________________

Last Name Grey
First Name Everette
Gender Male
Orientation Bisexual
Birth Date June 14th
Age 17

_____________________

_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Everette Grey is Graced with
the ability to read minds. He
can sense the malicious ideas
of other creatures, and due to
this, has always been at the
right side of the king. Until
now, his job was to sense the
intents of people coming to
visit the great monarch of the
Kingdom. He is as loyal as can
be, and has a severe stutter.
Everette has dark brown hair
the color of new fawn hide.
He has fairly tanned skin,
and, as all Gracelings do,
multi-colored eyes. One eye
is forest green, like leaves
in summer, and one is as
brown as bark, golden and
dark like honey. He has a
light dusting of freckles
across his nose as well.

THE
ABILITY
TO
KNOW

_________________________________________________________________________________________________
When I was young, I was taken from my family. Like all Gracelings of my caliber, I was raised in the castle to do the King's bidding. Since I can remember, I have had the job of alerting the King of any evil that might enter the doors to the room of his throne. It's always been my job to protect him in that way, and though it isn't fun to stand for hours on end beside a chair with nothing to do but listen, I've never hated it. One day, many years ago, a man came into the castle with the intent to kill the King. I could tell, and I alerted his Majesty, of course. It was only a month later that I discovered why. What man would not desire to destroy another for taking their child from them? If only I had known it was my father, I might have made a different choice.

    Image
Meet Acira Chriselda Mei. For a small girl, that's quite a large name. A mouthful of unnecessary syllables. Usually when people ask her for her name, she tells them to call her Acira Mei. Or even just Acira. Short and pretty, just like her.
She's a young girl, at the tender age of sixteen. A teenager. But she never grew up in a child friendly environment in the king's castle. Instead of a loud-mouthed, clumsy, rebellious teenager, people expect her to be a proper young lady. It's hard for a child to act like a woman. But Acira tries her best. Her efforts lands her somewhere in between the borders of a teenager and an adult. She's quite an amusing spectacle to watch to be honest. Almost like a child play pretending to be an adult.
For a girl sixteen years of age, Acira Mei is small and slight. She's often mistaken younger than she is. Her slender shoulders, long legs, and a height of 5'1" make her look twelve - sometimes even younger. Once, during a banquet, someone mistook her as eight! Acira, obviously embarrassed and flushed blood red by then ran straight out of the room.
But her small stature only aids her with her Grace. This young Graceling has one dazzling emerald eye, and the other a dull yellow. She hates her yellow eye, often comparing it to a rotting squash. She finds it ugly, disturbing, and frightening even to her own self. But enough about her unsettling eyes. Her Grace is of a higher importance. Acira was Graced with the ability to run like a deer. She is as graceful as she is fast. It had been rumored that she can sprint faster than a horse. She can run on any terrain, whether it be flat grassland, a forest floor covered with dips and roots, a sandy sea-side, or up a rocky mountain. She can dodge through crowds of people without bothering a soul (her size is an enormous plus on this side though).
Although she is fast, she is not a very strong fighter. She might be able to hold her own against a regular soldier for a minute or two, but even a normal boy is enough to knock her down if he tries hard enough. She isn't afraid of fighting or blood, she just is simply just highly against it. She sees no point in the exchanging of flying fists or wounds. She is the type to turn her nose up at any fight. During practices at the royal court, she is one of the few people who never show up and watch. When it comes down to a fight though, she finds it best when she is against two men. She finds it amusing to dodge between them at the last moment and have them hit each other. It's childish, but she loves it nonetheless.
In fact, in the kingdom, almost everyone compares her to a deer. To her annoyance, some even call her the "Little Deer". It's not just because of her Grace. Her personality and appearance reminds people of a deer as well. Her wide eyes, frail body, and innocent look (although she is anything but innocent) make her always seem like a frightened deer. She is jumpy though not easily frightened. If you giver her a scare, she'll likely give you a deadly glare and speak not a word for days. Acira also is embarrassed easily. Like the incident in the banquet room, she'll blush whenever provoked. She'll also blush when she's in love though, so it's pretty easy to tell her feelings. She doesn't like to admit it, but she's pretty much an open book. Aside from being embarrassed all the time, she love to have fun and laugh. Her laugh is an odd sound, somewhere in between a dolphin cackling and the chiming of bells. It's weird, but once she starts laughing, everyone follows. She enjoys playing practical jokes (mostly on guys) and reading. She also enjoys acting, but even she herself admits that she sucks.
Acira barely knows her parents. Her Grace was discovered at a young age and she was immediately taken to the king's court. Her ties had been cut from all her relatives, in fear that they might interfere with her duty. She never feels saddened by this knowledge though. She barely remembers her family and considers the people of the court enough. As soon as she could understand and go through with orders she had been the king's own messenger. She's faster than most horses, has no need for a rider, and can travel on all terrains. The King doesn't trust her completely with his messages of course. He seals them with wax and always checks to make sure the seal isn't broken. Acira takes it all with stride. She knew that if she was the king, she wouldn't trust her either. She also isn't the most curious girl on the face of the planet. She respects the privacy of others and won't be nosy.

Zavin is five foot nine and in good physical condition, though more lean than bulky. This allows him to have
the advantage of speed in a fight in addition to his Grace. He has dark golden skin with many lighter scars from
his opponents' weapons and short black hair. His eyes are both shades of brown, though one is so dark that it
can be mistaken for black and the other is a lighter reddish-brown. He is quick to smile, revealing crooked
teeth, and his face is too thin for him to be considered traditionally handsome.

Learned charm and boasting conceal that he is often nervous in social situations, and he can be a bully without
realizing it. He is used to exercising his Grace and his words against opponents at the whim of his monarch,
and can find it difficult to divorce that persona from his true nature. He often wonders who he really is, and
worries that he has truly become the bully he acts. Zavin tends to seem less mature than his age, though he
can take charge if the situation calls for it even though he is not usually a leader.

He has a love for horses and the outdoors, and normally avoids being inside or having to dress nicely for the
court and his king, though he has lived there since he was a small child and should be used to the trappings of
being one of the Gracelings His Majesty favors. He doesn't remember his family at all, though he has been told
they were farmers. Most of the time the king uses him as a demonstration of his power or a bodyguard either
at court or while the king is traveling. Occasionally he is used to teach individual lessons to those who have
angered the king or the king stages hand-to-hand combat tournaments where those out of favor are entered.
Zavin always wins, of course.
