Aidah looked at Althaia, rather shocked. A sleepover? She had never been to one of those before. The idea kind of reminded her of a foster home, but with less...creepiness. If she were to fit in around here, Aidah definitely need to expand her horizons. Plus, these people seemed nice. Quirky, but nice. And besides. She couldn't go the whole year just knowing Katie. Katie was way too much for her to handle. Aidah made an executive decision. "Yeah, a sleepover sounds fun. You sure your parents would be alright with it?" It felt strange for Aidah to worry about trivial things like parents. Ever since she was little, parents seemed to Aidah like a fairytale concept, one she never really viewed as real. To think that someone could have people in their life guiding them and acting as a shoulder to cry on in times of need was something quite strange, and Aidah didn't know if she would like having that second opinion, or if it would infringe upon her independent nature. Strangely enough, the one thing that had kept Aidah up all night did not cross her mind. How was she to hide her powers at an event that would undoubtedly be high energy and emotionally exciting?

Katie Williams • Human
Katie put her hands on her hips, staring up into Kaden's warm brown eyes. Way up. "Well, maybe if you weren't...if you weren't..." Katie searched for an insult to throw back, realizing in vain that Kaden was just too smooth. "Well maybe if you weren't bigfoot, you'd be able to...to...I have no idea. I've got nothing. You win this round, Kaden Lange." Katie loved friends. She loved people she could talk to that didn't have furry ears and a tail (yes, cats are people too.) She didn't know what she would do if she were to lose the people she loved, especially since her family was never around to support her. So, when Althaia offered an invitation to her house, Katie jumped at the chance. "A sleepover? I love those! I'll bring peanut butter and also some of those good candy things. You know, the ones with the candy shell and the chocolate inside? Mmm, those are so good! But mostly the peanut butter, because that's like my favorite food, and it goes with everything." Katie grabbed Althaia and pulled her into a hug. "Oh, I'm so excited!"

Althaia Hilton ● 17 ● Black Bird ● Female

Althaia smiled brightly as Aidah accepted the invitation. "My parents said that I could have a couple friends over while they away, they won't get back until next wednesay, and Ferdinand, the butler, has the weekend off" Althaia smiled warmly, "I trust you guys not to break and not to set the house on fire!" An absent look suddenly crossed Thaia's face, "Though I did do that once..." Snapping back to the present she shook her head. She smiled again then froze as Katie leaned up and wrapped her arms around her. Althaia was not so used to hugs, yeah she hugged people, but she rarely received hugs herself, and it felt nice. Thaia suddenly felt a warm feeling spreading though her body, first she thought it was friendship, but with her luck, it wasn't. The warm feeling started to spread through her arms, and down her legs. She gasped almost inaudibly and pulled away. Shoving her hands in her pockets and curling her toes as she felt her claws start to slide out. Turning to Kaden for his answer, she tried to act natural, but her hands and feet were on fire. The metal in her bones had to melt in order for it to form her claws, a chemical reaction in her body allowed it to do that. Unfortunately it was extremely painful and hard to stop. Time seemed to slow as Althaia took deep breaths, calming herself, concentrating hard, she managed to get the claws on her hands to retract, but the ones on her feet, she couldn't get to. Althaia had been having episodes like these more and more frequently, and they were starting to worry her. Using her tecnology, Althaia had been working on a serum, by studying the notes made by Andrew, she was trying to find a way to reverse the effects of the original serum, but this could not be done. Her DNA was permanlty changed, but Thaia's serum only reliveed her from her powers for a couple of hours, so far she had been mostly successful, she had had a few 'issues' but she was making progress. Althaia tried to actual natural, 'So how about it Kaden?"

Amy Johnson ● 17 ● Human ● Female
Amy turned as people behind her started talking to her. Amy was not the most socialble of people so all she said was "um hi?" In a shaky tone.

Kaden Lange :: Mockingbird

Kaden stood staring down at Katie, straight faced and expectant of a seriously slick comeback. But because Kaden was the Sass Master, King of all Sick Burns, Katie was left fumbling at his feet, practically grasping at his pant leg for something to talk smack about. With her resignation, Kaden let out a haughty laugh. "I always win, you can't beat DJ Lange yo." He joked, immediately regretting the name "DJ Lange" with a mental cringe.

"A sleepover sounds super radical!" Kade grinned, starry eyed at Althaia. Any excuse to not go back to the Home for a night was greatly appreciated. Not that he hated it there or anything, quite the contrary, he loved it, but it was nice to indulge in those normal childhood activities he never got to experience. To be honest, he wasnt entirely sure what it was people /actually did/ at sleepovers. He had seen all sorts of movies, but those usually involved girls in nightgowns gossiping and having pillow fights. Kaden loved pillow fights as much as the next 18 year old mutant, truthfully, but his sensible side told him that expectation was a little unrealistic for the common-age teenagers. Regardless, he was excited.

As the others buzzed about the sleepover, Kaden watched Althaia's mood quickly change in the blink of an eye. It was subtle, she kept her smile and disposition, but there was anxiety in her eyes. Her form stiffened and her breathing grew shallow and Kaden knew something was the matter. He had known this cover up of sudden fear many times in his own eyes. "Saturday it is then?" He stepped closer to her side, turning his head away from the group and lowering his voice "Thaia are you okay?" He brushed over his mouth to make sure no one else saw him speaking, in case Thaia needed a cop out without the others knowing she was suddenly feeling nervous.

Kai turned to Katie, his eyes almost glazed over. A thin trickle of drool ran from his mouth, "did you say peanut butter?" he asked her.

Althaia Hilton ● 17 ● Black Bird ● Female

Kai turned to Kaden, not noticing Althaia's discomfort. "It's tonight!" he said excitedly and turned to Katie, gushing about 'peanut butter'. Althaia looked up at Kaden, watching as he asked her if she okay. Turning to him fully, she smiled at him, still trying to act natural. She gave him the thumbs up, looking him eyes. Thaia suddenly felt a rush of heat to her hand and before she could stop it, a 5cm serrated edge, black claw slide from her thumb. Horrified she looked around, thankfully nobody else had noticed, they were all in conversation with each other, them she remembered Kaden. She looked up to him, as she did, her right contact lenses curled up from the heat and dropped from her eye, showing the crimson iris. Her eyes widened, both crimson and green, "oh god" she whispered. Covering her eye and stuffing her hand in her pocket, she turned to Kai, "I'm not feeling too good, I'm going home!" Kai turned to her, "I'll take y-", "No, I'm fine" Althaia cut Kai off, and ran off. Kai looked disappointed and turned back to Katie. Althaia ran through the school halls, tears pouring from her eyes. She burst through the school doors as her body started to heat up, starting to transform completely.

Kaden Lange:: Mockingbird

Kaden eyes widened in sudden shock as Thaia flashed a knife at him. He took a step back, but as she moved her hand, Kade realized the blade wasn't in her hand, but protruding from her hand, and as a contact slipped from her eye, he realized something very strange was happening to her. He felt a shiver course through his body, and with her name on his lips, she excused herself and ran. A quick once-over of the group showed him that no on else had seen what he had just seen, so he did his best to play it natural.

"Wow, girls eh?" He chortled, shrugging his hands out of his pockets. He copped Kai on the shoulder, "I got this, someone ought to go with her or she'll get herself into even more trouble." He rolled his eyes, and lightly jogged after her down the hall, but once hitting the doors, he booked it full sprint across the courtyard. His every muscle on fire with adrenaline, terrified for his friend. Unable to spot her, he shouted.

"ALTHAIA!" He watched his volume, making sure not to shout too loud. "THAIA PLEASE!" His legs burned with the speed they carried him. He could only run so far before having to double over and catch his breath, leaning up on a light pole just on the edge of the property, he scanned as far as he could see, praying for a glimpse of the panicked girl. "THAIA!!" He screamed for her one last time, "PLEASE." He pushed his hair back from his face, unintentionally changing its colour from his lighthearted blond to a worried black. "I think we're the same." His voice cracked, dying off under his panting ragged breaths.

Althaia Hilton ● 17 ● Black Bird ● Female

Althaia stopped dead in her tracks, her heightened senses picking up all of Kaden's words. Althaia turned around and sprinted back to Kaden. When she found him, he was leaning heavily against a light pole. She stopped a few meters shy of his hunched figure. She gritted her teeth, turning her head, she was conflicted, should she leave him or should she go? Her body was starting to get warmer, she didn't have much time. "I shouldn't be doing this" she growled softly to herself. Covering the last few meters, she grabbed his wrist, her hand unnaturally hot. "get your butt moving" she shouted, dragging him along. "we're going back to my place" she looked back at him, noticing his hair was, black? she shook it off, pulling Kaden after her.

Katie • Human

"I most definitely said peanut butter. One does not simply attend a sleepover without peanut butter. It just isn't right," Katie said, staring at Kai wide-eyed. She was very serious about her peanut butter. "I could talk about peanut butter for ever. But I won't, because even that gets boring." As they stood conversing, Katie heard the bell ring over the loud speaker, signaling the start of class. Katie checked her schedule. "Math first, then English. Sounds joyous. See you guys after school!" Collecting her bag, Katie jogged down the corridor, waving at various people and acting all-around bubbly. Walking into homeroom, Katie plopped down into a seat next to a very annoyed looking teenager and another boy tossing an apple up and down in his hand. Not recognizing either kid, Katie immediately felt worried. She knew everyone. "Hi, I'm Katie. Looks like we're math buddies. Why do you look so irritated? Someone knock you down in the rush of the morning? Nice apple." Rapid fire conversation was just kind of her thing.

Aidah • Phoenix

Aidah watched in worry as Kaden and Althaia ran out of the building. Turning to Quinn, she asked, half to herself, "Is that a normal occurrence?" Aidah wasn't one to pick up on social cues, but it did seem strange that Thaia had run off like that. Kaden had played it off pretty cool, but something didn't seem right. Aidah knew that look. Thaia was hiding something, and Kaden had picked up on it too. Aidah had been in that position many times, especially after what had happened at the children's home. As the bell rang, Aidah glanced down the hall. This is my first day at a new school, Aidah thought, weighing her options. I can't afford to miss it for some people I hardly even know. But at the same time, Aidah almost felt drawn to Althaia, and even to Kaden, with his cocky attitude. "I, uh, I have to go.." she muttered walking in the direction of the restrooms. As soon as she was sure the others couldn't see her, Aidah took off in the direction she saw Kaden run earlier, trying to pinpoint their location. You're crazy, you're insane, why did you do this... Thoughts raced through her mind as she glanced around, and...aha! Aidah saw two figures on the sidewalk, pushing their way through the New York foot traffic. Panting and winded, Aidah skidded to a halt next to Thaia and Kaden, her hair falling out of it's neatly tied pony tail. "I think...I think I know..." she wheezed, trying to string together a sentence. "I'm sorry I chased you, I don't even...don't even know you. But..." Aidah herself couldn't even explain it, and she was too out of breath to even try.

((RECAP: Basically everyone has gotten to school, met up with friends, and the bell just rang for classes to begin, so thats where most people will be going. Althaia invited a group of people over for a sleepover that weekend, but something triggered her powers to try and transform her, so she ran out claiming illness. Kaden chased after her, worried, and Aidah just caught up as well))

Kaden Lange :: Mockingbird

"Thaia..." All that could escape his lips was her name filled with the relief he felt at finding her. Kaden lifted his head to see she was still rigid and avoiding eye-contact. "What's going on are you alright?" His voice was panicked, speaking low. Cautiously reaching a hand out, he tried to touch her or comfort her in some way, a physical way to show his support. He jumped slightly as she made the connection first, grabbing his wrist and tugging him behind her. Her hand was sweaty, clammy? No, it was hot, he deduced. She was burning up, warmer than even the worst fevers he had experienced. His mind raced, trying to connect the dots that kept being thrown at him, and not trip while being pulled down the bustling streets full of pushy New Yorkers.

Hearing running footsteps behind him, Kaden glanced back, and with a double take, recognized the runner as one of the girls who was standing in the group earlier. "Aidah?" Kaden halted suddenly, putting himself between the newcomer and Althaia. In a strange and possibly dangerous situation, he did what he does best: Trust No One. That was easily one of the first things he learned outside the walls of the laboratory, and he would stick by that wholeheartedly. Kaden quickly realized that he was breaking his motto by trusting Althaia, but he wondered if maybe this whole ordeal was actually her trusting him? He supposed this predicament was different. He knew Thaia. This new girl was a complete stranger. And the fact this brand new complete stranger had chased them off school property and down the street put him on high guard. She was the one to not be trusted, and he showed that he stood for none of this by firmly keeping Althaia behind him and safe away from the stranger.

"Who the hell are you Aidah? What the hell is going on?" He barked, knowing he was probably the only one with his head actually on his shoulders at the moment. His turned his head quickly to glance at Thaia who still had her hand wrapped around his wrist, and continued to stare down the redhead, his fists clenched tight. If there was one thing he regretted about his powers, it was that they didnt give him any subtlety in use, and they didnt make him any better at fending for himself or others. They were not brave powers, they were the cowards powers, granting the ability to hide, not confront. And that was a bit of a let down at the moment. But he stood his ground firmly, regardless.
